I am so grateful that we are in one body. And as such, we each have a part in serving our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul has done an excellent job of explaining the spritual gifts that are active in the church. Each gift is for the edification of the Body of Christ.
  • Teboho on 1 Corinthians 12:8
What is the difference in the spiritual gifts we see in chapter 12 of the book of Roman's and chapter 12 of the book of 1 Corinthians. Is correct to say there are 15 spiritual gifts and that each one of us is gifted in one of these areas?

    God bless
  • Chris - in Reply on 1 Corinthians 12:8
Teboho, I see that both these accounts, referring to Spiritual Gifts, as complementing each other. I don't think that we should necessarily look at these lists from the apostle, as exhaustive. They may well be other gifts that have not been specifically mentioned. But what is evident, is that God wants His Church to be well equipped in serving each other, for the building up in our faith & blessing of each other. After all, we are a community within a community & just as parents give all due care & instruction to their children, so the Church, with its members so gifted, should also use those gifts for the building up of one another in love. It may be true that certain gifts may not be seen or even necessary in a fellowship today, but the Spirit does give each one a gift to be used to edify the Body.

You may, or may not have, a gift from the Spirit that is listed there. It may be something very unique, just as each one of us is unique in Christ. The important part is that the person with the gift or position is not elevated (as was being done in Corinth, 1 Cor 3:4), but rather that the Church grow & the gift in that person be exercised. How do we know our gift? It won't come as a letter from Heaven but most likely as we walk with the Lord & are active in our Fellowship, we will sense our special God-given abilities, our direction, our joy in service even when it gets demanding, because we will know that this is the Lord's doing & enabling & blessing to the Church must be the result.

Well said Chris. I would like to add - work together for the good of the church & the glory of God. As Chris said, everyone has something unique to offer.
  • In the world we will have tribulation. Christ has overcome the world. where is the temple of Christ ,but in the world! We are his workmanship in him! we are all different but yet in one body. Christ is all in all.,he has fulfilled all of Gods law. He is our perfect sacrifice. Without controversy great is the mystery of Godliness! In him we live ,move and have our being. Faith in Him is our sword!
  • Vanessa on 1 Corinthians 12
We are all parts of Christ Jesus and we should come together as one body on one accord to do one job serve god.
  • Deborah on 1 Corinthians 12
Every word that proceeds from Our Father though Christ, our Savior, Redeemer, Counselor and Savior cannot impregnate a heart other than one chosen by our Lord.
How beautifully synchronized His timing is, for us, the meeting of persons He brings into our path. Each ordained by His Spirit for His Holiness, or, for a test of our discernment abilities.
    ONLY YOU ARE WORTHY GOD
    Bless Israel, Lord.

  • A BIRTH ALWAYS IMPLIES A CHILD CONCEPTION ETC,THE NEW BIRTH IMPLIES A HEAVENLY CHILD WHICH IS THE H.G. AS THAT WHICH IS BORN OF THE SPIRIT IS SPIRIT WHICH IS OUR NEW INNERMAN THE H.G AND CHRIST IS THE FATHER SIMPLY B/C HE SOWS THAT GOOD SEED IN OUR HEARTS INITIATING A BIRTH OF CHRIST IN US ( THAT CHRIST THAT IS FORMED IN US) WHICH ANSWERS TO THE ISRAEL OF GOD THE PROMISE WAS MULTIPLICATION OF GOD
  • Leonie on 1 Corinthians 12
the born again believer is neither Greek nor Jew we are the born again and we dwell in the house of our Father. We are those to whom "from before the beginning of time" refers and our place is determined by Believing on the name of Jesus. Once we answered that knock and let Jesus enter " It is not I that liveth but Christ that liveth in me" and we can no live by man's dogma but by His Word.
  • Dennis Hauze on 1 Corinthians 12
It seems to me that 1 Cor Ch 12; presents a challenge in that it makes adherence to the teachings of the Savior, as written in the Holy Bible, and acceptance of his sacrifice, the only relevant points to which we need to hold true. Also, makes the claims of some organized religions, to be the only "way" to salvation, and their Doctrines and dogma questionable, if not dangerous. Your thoughts?
  • Verse 25~We need mutual concern for one another. Literally the Greek says “to be anxious over one another.”
  • Verses 14-18~In Jehovah God's organization each of the members have a different ministry. There should be no division in the body, it cooperates as each member performs his or her part.
  • A disciple on 1 Corinthians 12
Alex; I'm only writing in response to that you twist my words, as you twist the Lord's words. Yes, the Holy Spirit is a divine person, and one with the the Father and the Son; I never intimated otherwise. No, we do not conceive the Holy Spirit; but He is sent from above into the hearts of those that ask in faith, and those that obey. He is not the new Son begotten in us, but the Paraclete to help.
  • Disciple there in no more Jew or Gentile IN CHRIST JESUS, NEITHER CIRCUMCISION ( JEWS )NOR UNCIRCUMCISION ( GENTILE ) BUT A NEW CREATURE WHICH IS CHRIST IN US THE HOPE OF GLORY.YA GOTTA UNDERSTAND THAT JEW AND GENTILE ARE FULL OF OFFENCE THE ONLY THING THAT PLEASES GOD IS A NEW CREATURE, A NEW INNEMAN WHICH IS THE H.G,THE PROMISE SEED . THATS Y THERE IS NO MORE JEW OR GENTILE IN CHRIST JESUS .GBU
  • A disciple on 1 Corinthians 12
Alex; Where do you get such unscriptural strange ideas? The Holy Ghost (notice carefully I don't abbreviate!) is the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ which is given into our hearts as an earnest or token of the Promise of our inheritance in the world to come; and for sanctifying and teaching us; and for using us to convict and teach the world about Christ. NOT TO REPLACE JEWS OR CHRISTIANS!
  • Disciple its the H.G. that replaces both Jew and Gentile,Does this scrip. ring a bell 1 Cor 12 v 13 BY 1 SPRIT ( THE H.G. ) HAVE WE ALL BEEN BAPTISED INTO THE BODY OF CHRIST WHETHER JEW OR GENTILE, If any man be in CHRIST JESUS he is a NEW CREATURE ( ANY MAN ) Did not our lord say that there will be only 1 Shephard and 1 Sheepfold, JESUS TOLD NIC. A JEW HAD TO BE BORNAGAIN, BY THAT 1 SPIRIT. SMH

  • Verse 26: When one member of the congregation suffers we feel the pain and are all affected. We need to have deep love and concern for one another.
  • Verse 22: The congregation is compared to the body in this chapter. No member of the congregation is unnecessary. Everyone has something to offer.
  • Charles Bonsu on 1 Corinthians 12
    Amen.
  • Peter A. Okebukola on 1 Corinthians 12
We are reminded of the diversity of gifts and roles. We should covet earnestly the best gifts through supplication to God.
  • Ray321 on 1 Corinthians 12
If a brother or sister in Christ is suffer spiritual battle and is in trouble, we must help or we will suffer too. 26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. It's better to rejoice then suffer. Amen
  • Verse 28: God has assigned various ministries and everyone has different gifts to offer.
  • Bro Okechukwu WORI on 1 Corinthians 12
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, even now and for ever more. Amen. I chose verses 27 and 28 of 1 Corinthians Chapter 12. My understanding of these verses indicates that we can first accomplish our individual divine assignment if we unify together with love and faith. Also by coming together under a unified nut, we bring our diversified gifts, and talents to enhance the smooth fulfillment.
  • Jacob Ameh Sani on 1 Corinthians 12
"...a more excellent way" is love. Love typically is burdens bearing that reliefs others of their challenges. Burdens bearing is living a life that comforts and inspires others. Being the hands of Jesus Christ to your world is one of the pointers to living inspiring and comforting life. The hallmark of Christianity is the more "excellent way". What speed do you tread the more excellent way daily?
  • Wayne on 1 Corinthians 12
Stephen, speaking in diverse languages and interpretation of diverse languages is listed last. Also, Matthew 6:33 states but seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Being in the kingdom and His righteousness, the Lord will supply all our needs.
  • Irene123 on 1 Corinthians 12
    V. 1 - "..... and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost." What this is referring to is - Jesus is the 'Lord' of ones life, after Acts 2:38. It's THEN He becomes the Lord of one's life, and one can say, "I KNOW the Lord." John 15:14. Matthew 28:19 is a commandment of Jesus: in the NAME of ....."
