What is the meaning of Isaiah chapter 32 verses 5-11 concerning Liberals ? Is God saying Liberals today are Evil and Wicked just like in the past?

Hi. Matthew Henry speaks of these verses very clearly on his commentary.

There are other translations that use the word "noble" instead of "liberal".

I checked with 3 different translation engines that used "benevolent" or "generous" instead of "liberal". So, I think we know what the word liberal means, and it is not negative. The scripture says that the vile or foolish man will no longer be thought of as liberal [benevolent, or generous, during the Messianic reign, but instead will be recognized for what they are]. They didn't give at Temple because it was within their heart. They gave to bring praise upon themselves.

The Bible also tells us that you can do many righteous things, but if you have not charity, you are nothing. Similar to the hypocrites who pray on the street corner (where everyone can see them... or on TV, or the Internet).

I am reminded of those who call the poor "lazy" and "freeloaders" and "welfare queens". They declare themselves to be worthy of heaven, and anyone who doesn't believe just as they do are consigned to hell.

If America is destroyed, it will be because of arrogance, selfishness, and apathy. Too many today lack empathy & compassion. Ezekiel 16:49 Now this was the sin of [insert your country here]: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.

Hello Fraser, Thank you for the time to comment! The words that a Christian does not want living in one's heart from Isaiah 32 are the words churl or churlish or churlishness.

Careful Chris - before you taunt your vile temperament towards Liberals as a whole, maybe you should read and study the real Bible Verses:

    Isiah 32:5-8

5The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful. 6For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail. 7The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right. 8But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand

    Commentary by Matthew Henry, 1710.

The liberal soul devises liberal things concerning God, and desires that He will grant wisdom and prudence, the comforts of his presence, the influence of his Spirit, and in due time the enjoyment of of his glory.

Can you not distinguish the fact that Isiah is comparing the difference between a Vile person and a Righteous person? ...and you have the two in exact opposite order!!

Hello, Being bountiful, is it not having God's purpose within?
