Zechariah Chapter 13 Discussion

    Zechariah 13

Verse 1 states "In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness." This corresponds with the healing waters from the Temple in Ezekiel 47 as well as Revelation 20 for the nations of the world.

Verses 2 through 5 discuss the end of false prophets; even the death of a family member who prophesies lies. Verse 6 seems to also be a prophesy of Christ as well as a warning of how when the Lord returns there is no more toleration from anyone closely associated with a false prophet.

Verse 7 is clearly a prophesy of Christ as cross referenced in Matthew 26:31 since Christ quoted it.

Verse 8 and 9 discuss a subject I've mentioned previously in the posts on Zechariah; on the third that make it through the Tribulation. It should be noted that God hears them. I have also noted for those who think this is cruel as to the interpretation; that mankind will be rarer than gold overall when the Day of Judgment comes. ( Isaiah 13:12). Truly; the cost of rejecting their Messiah and many centuries of rebellion has cost Israel dearly as to blessings they could have had. Nonetheless, they are once again established in their homeland and they will never completely be annihilated there despite the gathering of all nations against them in the last days.

Salvation is for everyone who believes and is baptized. Here are some scriptures:

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9 That if thou Confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved.

Acts 19:34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said, of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter if persons:

Acts 10:35 But in every nation here that feareth him and worker's righteousness is accepted with him.

    Hi Dere.

    Here is the conclusion.

John 3:17-19. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

HE THAT BELIEVETH ON HIM IS NOT CONDEMNED: ""BUT" HE THAT BELIEVETH NOT IS CONDEMNED ALREADY, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

There is many that won't be saved because they seek another way.

Matthew 7:13-14. Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Matthew 7:21-23. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Anyone that says otherwise beware of them.

Matthew 7:15. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

    God bless.

    Dere:

Salvation is so YOU will never die; but are GIVEN eternal life.

1 John 5:11 And this is the record, God hath GIVEN to us eternal LIFE, and THAT LIFE is his SON.

YOU DIED with Christ on the cross.

YOU AROSE, a new creation, the LIFE of Christ IN YOU: you are the body of Christ.

1 Timothy 6:16 Who (Christ) ONLY hath IMMORTALITY, dwelling in the light ....

1 Corinthians 15:53 .....and this mortal (you) SHALL PUT ON IMMORTALITY .....Christ ONLY hath IMMORTALITY.

1 Corinthians 15:54 .....Death is swallowed up in victory ......

Colossians 1:27 .....this MYSTERY .....Christ in YOU .....

1 Corinthians 12:27 Now ye are the BODY of Christ ....

Psalms 82:6 I have said, YOU are gods, the children of the most high.

This is the GOOD NEWS of the gospel.

    God bless you!

    Hi Dere.

    Salvation goes out to everyone.

John 1:29. The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

1 John 2:2. And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the WHOLE WORLD.

Revelation 22:17. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let HIM THAT HEARETH say, Come. And let HIM THAT IS A THIRST come. And WHOSOEVER WILL, let him take the water of life freely.

Romans 10:9-10. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, AND SHALT BELIEVE IN THINE HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

    I hope this helps.

    God bless.

I ate a bunch so far but no worries because I set my scale back 10 pounds. I can't wait to get back to work so I can ask the guys "Do these shoes make me look fat?"

Larry For the wages or payment for sin broken fellowship is death, but the walk bu the spirit is life and peace

matter what, and there is no respect of persons Romans 2:6-11y
  • Jesse - In Reply on Zechariah 13 - 2 years ago
    Larry,

If a man keeps sinning after being saved, that man needs to take inventory and ask himself if he's truly saved. A person who is saved has the Spirit of Christ living inside them and they are no longer living under the sin principle. However, a saved person can and will commit single acts of sin, but that person can no longer sin habitually because the Spirit that now lives in them prevents that from happening.

We are told in 1 John 3:9, "Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God."

This verse makes it sound like a saved person does not sin. But here's what it literally says when taken from the Greek text: Whosoever has been born of God does not practice sin; for God's seed remains, or abides in him: and he cannot sin, that is, he does not have the capacity to sin because he has been born of God.

You see, once I'm born of the Spirit of God, I do not have the capacity to continue to satisfy a lifestyle of sin. It is impossible! Why? It's because God's Spirit in me keeps me from sinning continually and habitually. That's one way to test if I am truly saved or not. If I go out and keep sinning habitually and the Lord does not deal with me, I'm probably not saved at all. If I step out of line and there's no conviction in my heart, do I really have God's Spirit living in me? Probably not!

As far as paying for our sin, Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sin. There is nothing man can do to pay the penalty for his own sin.
  • Larry on Zechariah 13 - 2 years ago
What if a man keeps sinning after being saved? Bible says you will pay for your sins

  • Alex on Zechariah 13 - 3 years ago
Comments by Alex about Jacob and Esau, Twins but God loved one but hated the other They struggled in the womb . God told Rebpbaca they were 2 manner of ppl , one was of the flesh and 1 was of the spirit ,But Jacob wanted Esau birth right ,The flesh was symbolic of humanity but the spirit is symbolic of the H.G. a baby Christ ,Its Christ that wants to steal our birth right which was death . The Soul that sinneth shall surely DIE. Thats was our birth right DEATH,as the wages of sin is death ,But Jesus is saying we must be bornagain if we wanna live . Jesus took our sins by his blood that red pottage Remember Esau traded his birth right for that RED POTTAGE SYMBOLIC OF THE BLOOD OF CHRIST That he might live, Esau was at the point of death. But its Christ that steals our birth right which was DEATH BY HIS BLOOD. Thats y they say he will come as a thief in the night, Both Peter and Paul say this "A thief in the nite " but they describe this 2 nd coming as birth pains . She brought forth a manchild which is the H.G. Remember Jesus said unless ya drink my blood you will have no life in you ( that red pottage ) Thus Esau lived . In Adam we all die but in Christ a type of Jacob we will ALL live. But Issac caught on to their transaction and made Jacob Esau's lord,The 2 nd born which is the H.G IS GONNA BE OUR LORD. Just as Jacob stole Esau's birth right which was death ( the soul that sinneth shall surely die ) Christ will steal our old birth right which is death . I COME AS A THIEF IN THE NITE . REMEMBER JESUS SAID THE BRIDEGROOM WILL COME AT MIDNIGHT TO CATCH AWAY THE BRIDE . Thus we must be bornagain , Thats our new birth right as the spirit of life in CHRIST JESUS has free from the law of sin and death ( our new birth right ) is life by his blood ,that red pottage ,the blood of the lamb. The thing that is most important is both peter and paul describe this 2 nd coming as birth pains,When Isaiah saw the Kingdom coming he says unto us a child is born. Our birth right

    what is two fold prophecy?
  • Al on Zechariah 13 - 4 years ago
Reading various commentaries on this chapter, most seem to run into a problem in interpreting the prophet described in this chapter. There are some aspects that point to this being a false prophet and others that seem to make reference to Christ. In my opinion, from v2 to the end to the end of v4 the bible is describing a false prophet. Then there is a transition in beginning of v5 following the word "But,,," where the bible is comparing and contrasting the false prophet to another, who is not a prophet, but actually Christ.
    - He is not a prophet, but the Good Shepherd.
    - The wounds in his hand are from the cross.
    - The sword was from God, who used the Roman soldier.

    Any thoughts?

Jesus said Matthew 15:24 - But he (Jesus) answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I (Jesus) know them, and they follow me:
Galations 3: 28 - There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Jeremiah 3:8 - And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away,
and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
  • Kaashif Ameer - In Reply on Zechariah 13:6 - 4 years ago
I enjoy this because many in school for theology may say that this was only speaking about the children of Israel and the Covenant that the Father had with them .
  • Mac on Zechariah 13:6 - 4 years ago
People keep saying this is for the Israel. Who do you think Israel is today; where did the ten tribes go? And weren't the gentiles adopted into the tribes of Israel.
Paul makes repeated references to adoption into the house of Israel through faith: "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his" ( Rom. 8:9). And again: "Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises" ( Rom. 9:4).

Many People Believe They are Saved and Going to Heaven Because They Said a Prayer or baptize in Water. We are Baptized With The Holy Ghost( Mark 1:8) When The Father Calls( John 6:44) and We Ask Forgiveness( 1John 1:9) The Lord Will Wash Us in His Own Blood( Revelation 1:5) We Will be Changed( 2 Corinthians 5:17) You Will Know and Others Around You. It's Impossible Not to Know. The Change is WOW: 180

I think so as well. People want to wait until they are right in order to come to God. By then it may be to late. God wants us to come just the way we are and has nothing to do with our outer appearance.

13-9 where only a 1 3 part will remain leaves me breathless because no one I examine this with seems to understand the necessity for getting right with God NOW because our time remaining available for repentance is limited. Your thoughts.

Verses 4-6~This prophecy foretells a time in the future when many will not claim their involvement in religion. Formerly religious people will deny their religious course.
  • Mari on Zechariah 13 - 6 years ago
Verse 6 talks of Christ. When he was nailed to the cross. Those are the scars in his hands. He's talking to Israel.
