Dear one, go on YouTube and type in GREG LAURIE.

He's a Pastor of Harvest Church. The whole church participates in evangelism. He's a really great guy. Probably about your dads age. He has an "all purpose testimony like mine". You should read it to know what he's about.

If you subscribe all his most recent sermons will appear on your "home" button in the YouTube app.

Sometimes we have to go to some flaky churches to find one that really gets us involved.

I'm praying for you to find a true place of rest, like Psalm 23, describes. Keep coming back here when you have time. I love new faces. Make comments too. :D

Corruption came into the early church in different ways. With the church of Corinth (being such a large city back in the day) and in the 1st letter of Corinthians; we see there was cases of great discord and sin in their ministry. Paul rebukes that through the Holy Ghost. In 2nd Corinthians chapters 12 & 13 Paul gives instruction and warning to Corinth for things such as in 2 Corinthians 12:19-21. Look at Thessalonica...during Paul's first visit, they rejected him (although God's Spirit eventually broke through). Galatians was polluted with Judaizers (early Messianics).

Don't EVER put your Faith or confidence in a physical church. In a study I had the other day, I'd estimate more than 98% of churches today preach corrupt false doctrines and twist Bible verses. I see it here in this discussion too all the time. That's the church too. We should love and pray for the body of Christ (the church) but if you're hearing a preacher doing or saying something contrary to God's Word; simply leave. Don't cause a scene or anything else but simply leave.

Main line denominations have fallen far from God's Word for centuries now. Not one is in total agreement with the other. The most dangerous place is not even the physical churches. It's in internet churches, social media and right here on the internet. That's where I've seen some of the most blasphemous articles written on the Bible and called "theology." Remember, God's Word is simple and Christ's Salvation was for those simple the same. Anytime you notice it being complicated -- beware...there are wolves behind the pulpits today.

Titus 1:6 If any be blameless, the husband of ONE wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

    7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

Yes, Robby, all believers are joined into one family. We should not view one group of people above or below another, but equals. Great point, Robby.
  • Robby B on Titus 1 - 2 years ago
Paul, a Jew, writes to Titus, a Gentile, probably named after Antiochus Epiphanes, the terrible persecutor of Israel, a Jew calling a Gentile my own son in Christ Jesus!

How wonderful is the Word of God!
  • Bro Barney - In Reply on Titus 1 - 3 years ago
    Alia,

Look for a church that seeks to glorify God by spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Ignore denominations and ask questions. The first question I ask of any pastor is "do you believe in eternal salvation" or "do you believe once saved always saved." If they answer yes to this, then they understand the work and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Jesus is life and gives it freely to any that seek Him.

Joh 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
  • Alia on Titus 1 - 3 years ago
How does one find a church with such a pastor or a solid church?

Please help, this is a serious question. Eternity depends upon it

The word sound in Titus 1:13 is the word healthy. It's the same word used in Titus 1:9 about sound doctrine, or healthy doctrine. This section in Titus, Verses 5-16 is giving us the instruction on leadership. The leader is to present sound (healthy) doctrine in order that it might do two things: both to exhort, that is encourage, and to convict the gainsayers, those who speak against the word. Gainsayers are those who speak against the word.

So a leader is to present sound (healthy) doctrine that will encourage believers so that the believer will be healthy in the faith, and also, sound or healthy doctrine will convict the non-believers.

Arlene, Paul is writing to his 'son in the faith', Titus, who was left at Crete to build up the Church there. However, many of those who attended the Church, both indigenous & of Jewish stock, were less than upright in their teaching & manner of living. So bad was their condition, that we even developed an English word for that type of behaviour: Cretin.

So Paul was instructing Titus to not only appoint good, spiritual Church leaders, but to also rebuke & correct the wayward Cretians in their behaviour. So, to "be sound in faith" means that these people needed to get back to apostolic teaching & a correct understanding of God's Word & with real faith, and not behave in a carnal, godless manner.
  • Arlene Kampe on Titus 1:13 - 3 years ago
What does it mean to be "sound in the faith"?

The word of god brings power in our life: acts 1:8

the word of god brings peace in our life: hews 12:14

the word of god brings prayer in our life:

the word of god brings purpose in our life

the word of god brings praise in our life

the word of god brings strength in our life

the word of god removes sorrow in our life

God is the word and his word is true, as you read the Bible you see and know his word, you cannot pollute it to your own meaning but as what he has spoken, he promised to save us from satin , as adam and eve followed a false teacher, he gave us his son to die on that tree so we may be redeemed again in the glory of God, there is know greater love then his Amen

I am proud to read this chapter because I made a chart based on numbers 23:19.
I read this everyday and whenever I look at the chart. God is not a man , that He
should lie, neither the Son of Man that He should repent: hath He said , and shall
He not do it? Or hath He spoken and shall He not make it good? This "blesses" my
heart to know that my source is God and not man.
  • Shirley j ashley on Titus 1 - 5 years ago
Shirley!!! What ever God think becomes the truth. This is why he can not lie. He is the word and the word is God!!!
  • Michael Frye on Titus 1 - 6 years ago
God cannot lie! To lie and to bare false testimony is from the Evil one. God is Truth God is the Light God is Holy. He is the Holy of Holy. Their is no Sin in God, Their is no Darkness only Light which Smothers Darkness. God is Light God is Truth God is all that's Good.
  • A disciple on Titus 1 - 6 years ago
Robert; God cannot lie as He cannot sin because there is no unrighteousness in Him. His Divine Nature has no part dark or anything in His character that can be tempted with evil. Lying and perversion came out of the father of lies who has never stood in the truth. Thus it is that the Lord Jesus said, All they who are of the truth will hear my voice. And so then by our faith He counts us righteous.
  • Robert on Titus 1 - 6 years ago
Vs 2 THE STATEMENT IS THAT GOD CANNOT LIE,DOES THAT MEAN THAT HE IS INCAPABLE OF LIEING REFUSES TO LIE OR IS RESTRICTED FROM LYING. WOULD THE WORD"CANNOT" BE BETTER TRANSLATED "DOES NOT"? THIS QUESTION WAS PRESENTED TO ME WITH THE ADDENDUM "GOD IS ALL POWERFUL AND CAN DO WHATEVER HE WANTS SO WHY CAN'T HE LIE". IT WAS AN HONEST QUESTION NOT A CHALENGE

"and ordain elders in every city" vs5. And, "For a bishop must be blameless," vs7. Both elder and bishop are one and the same. The only other leading office in the local church was the deacon. Elders (overseers, bishops, presbyters) were to take the lead in the spiritual life of the church. The deacons oversaw ministry to the poor, the widows, and so on. More on the work of the ministry in 2 weeks

What a good reminder! We need to be clean in all our actions! This is good to help our children. When I was in school, I could be talking about something completely harmless and there would always be an associate to turn it into something gross, rude, or sexual. This scripture can help our children not to pick up this habit, and show that we need to keep clean in everything we do.
  • A disciple on Titus 1 - 6 years ago
"Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate (worthless)." Jesus wants us to let our light shine so men see His grace in real life: a character and behavior like God!
  • BSP on Titus 1 - 6 years ago
Verse 16: This shows that our words must be back up by actions.
  • Yesmalachi on Titus 1 - 6 years ago
Titus 1 vs 10;For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: How true is this verse in reference to churches of this age. Many have left the preaching of the gospel/Christ to motivational speeches, business talks, and self elevation messages today in our various pulpits thereby relegating Christ to the back ground. May God deliver us from such.
  • Ray321 on Titus 1 - 6 years ago
2 Peter 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

TITUS 1:14 "NOT GIVING HEED TO JEWISH FABLES AND COMMANDMENTS OF MEN THAT TURN FROM THE TRUTH" Matthew 21:38 "But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance." The Jews absolutely and without apology reject the Lord Jesus Christ, and have entirely set up themselves as the authorities instead of Jesus.
  • Ray321 on Titus 1 - 6 years ago
Titus 1:3 3 But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour. Apostle Paul was given the Words to preach from God the Son. Nobody knew what Jesus was telling Paul, when Paul reveal it in writing, the Jews were shocked in unbelief.
  • Ray321 on Titus 1 - 6 years ago
    Amen

God Almighty is God of order and looks at the heart of men, man character qualiftions according to our Lord. Who able to teach the word plus live it in there lives. If You can rule your household then you can not lead the flock.
  • Aaron Smith on Titus 1 - 6 years ago
God give many examples of men who took on more than one wife and how it negatively effected their life... Steve when you read your bible try reading the whole story within its context, don't take bird and pieces.... God has always only condoned one wife, Starting with Adam and Eve, God never changes,
