Wesley's Notes for Titus 1:1

1:1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ - Titles suitable to the person of Paul, and the office he was assigning to Titus. According to the faith - The propagating of which is the proper business of an apostle. A servant of God - According to the faith of the elect. An apostle of Jesus Christ - According to the knowledge of the truth. We serve God according to the measure of our faith: we fulfil our public office according to the measure of our knowledge. The truth that is after godliness - Which in every point runs parallel with and supports the vital, spiritual worship of God; and, indeed, has no other end or scope. These two verses contain the sum of Christianity, which Titus was always to have in his eye. Of the elect of God - Of all real Christians

Concerning Irene123 her question about having one wife there are many places in the bible where God condones polgmany in fact most middle eastern nations know that polgmany is of God .God gave David many wives as well as many great men of God So your answer is it is not for everyone but for some it is,however only men can be polgmanist not women.

    V. 6 - I saw this question on the back pg. comments; "Is it only Elders 'n deacons that can have only one wife or is it all Christians". EVERYBODY in the church is to be an example to everyone else; NO ONE is special in their private life.

Not by works of Righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Gost; Titus 3:5 Jesus did it all, all we have to do is believe 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 and take Paul's Gospel that Jesus gave him through a revelation. Jesus has chosen Paul for Salvation today, Romans through Philemon explain all this. God bless you ....
  • Akusian Oforibabea for verse 16
Yes, just as the word of God says: some who profess to walk with God but have nothing in them to show neither their deeds exhibit Christlike nature. That 's the reason why God said so in the scriptures that it is not everyone who says 'Lord, Lord ' will enter into the Kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. The word of God goes on to say that on that day, many will say to the Lord, 'Lord, Lord, 'did we not prophesy in your name, cast out demons in your name, and do mighty works in your name? And then will I say unto you, I know you not depart from me, ye workers of iniquity. Stay with the word and neither add nor subtract anything from the word. Leave a life worthy of the Gospel.

We must be careful that we follow the teaching on Jesus when appointing men as leader in the church. They must be men of God. They must be good stewards of the gospel and not teachers of themselves.
