I am C. Nettles who just recently posted concerning Song Of Solomon chapters 1 and 2. In my excitement, my post was full of grammatical mistakes; please excuse. I felt the need to post and send it immediately without a re-read; sorry.

And I thought my heart-felt thinking on Christ was glorious and pure and good and lovely, but now I understand that nothing I could have thought meets the loveliness of these verses. It takes me to a completely new place, a new birth, a new love and binds me at the feet of the Almighty where I land... only to look up and see all that He is and much, much more. His eyes and His Spirit, His softness and His desires, so full of love and compassion, they pours out like warm oil to my soul. I, filled unlike any description of fulness and realness and passion, am unable to articulable to utter or to think. All to my self I see Him, He's more than I ever imagined; He's all I ever need.

Like light in darkness so is the one(chosen) by God is among the worldly children of this age. Brethren let us be careful. Jesus encouraged us that our light should shine before them so they can turn to the father for repentance, please let your life style encourage others to come to Christ than you are a rose among thorns very precious before God.

In verse 2 the shepherd boy referred to her as a "lily among thorns" showing that he viewed her as one of a kind.

The gazelle is a graceful animal, just like the deer, when you excite it and it begins to ran, you cannot tame it. So is love, one should be ready and well prepared before going into love.

There are two things i see in this chapter, first the beautifull relationship between a husband and his wife, then God and man.But within both relationships, there is acaution which is !the litle foxes!.These are so called small problems and should be taken out of relationships so fast or we face the damage.May God help us to identfy these little foxes in our relations with each other and God himself.

The concept behind this, means. those who believe in the word of god is the same as those non believers that still need to believe, and that I your god will continue to love them like a lost sheep!
  • Sheree on Song of Solomon 2 - 10 years ago
God gave us the gift of sex within marriage along with the physical act.. There is an emotional aspect of love language as well.. so, there must be a balance between the two.

It is written in stone at a local cemetary, i never knew what it meant, and and it scared me that i didnt know. I take a strange comfort in the meaning, and ashamed that i did not know it was in the bible!
  • Tucker Taylor on Song of Solomon 2:5 - 10 years ago
Not knowing it was a bride to her new husband, saying, "I am so in love that I feel faint and need some food and drink to regain my composure," I have been interpreting the quote to mean, "I am so love-sick (and so heartbroken) that I need the diversion of food and drink to make my thoughts go in other directions than my plight of unrequited love."

So I really missed the meaning! But, on reflection, if one didn't know the context, my earlier mistaken interpretation makes sense, n'est-ce pas?

I thought the song of Solomon was talking about romance and moral and emotional love but now I've understood it's about the love that God has for his children. Thank you KING JAMES.

The Song of Solomon is beautiful in expressing
God's love. Matthew Henry's interpretation of
Song of Solomon 2 is wonderous, beautiful and
fulfilling. Matthew Henry, please continue your
Chapters, I learn and absorb with my heart and
mind your biblical summations. Eloquently, I
find the word through this bible study. Thank you, and May God continue to bless you.

my husband and i just enjoyed a wonderful study with :The Songs of Solomon. My husband stated that before we had this study he thought it was all about a physical "Romance."WOW! the love of God is beautiful.
  • Jacob on Song of Solomon 2 - 11 years ago
I believe a literal translation of this book is perfectly fine. Husbands are instructed to love their wife's like Christ loves us so the parallels between the beloved and the Church are easy to make. Romantic intimacy could be how Christ views the Church but I think he would use different imagery to describe it.

What does chapter 2 verse 6 say to you?
"His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me".

    And chapter 1 verse 4?
"Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers"

And to the comment below, I do not believe we have to ask God for mercy in order to understand the bible. In Romans Paul explains how the Holy Ghost as well as Jesus Christ intercedes for us.

"And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God." Romans 8:23

"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." Romans 8:26

"It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us." Romans 8:34

Life is not about how holy we are or who understands the bible the most. We were made to be loved by God and love Him back.

    1. My Beloved or my love in this chapter refers to Jesus Christ, the Messiah.Jesus Christ, the Messiah is the Word of God. Rev. 19:13

2.The Word of God is presently thriving in a very harsh enviroment of sin.Verses 2 and 3.

3.Those who turn to Jesus Christ, the Messiah receive God All Mighty's total protection and mercy and forgiveness. Verses 3 to 6.

4.The Word of God spreads in mysterious ways and no obstacle can hinder the spreading of the Word of God. Verses 7 to 9.

5.Verses 10 to 13 is a call to all believers to now actively take part in bringing people closer to God because conditions have now been created for a faster propagation of the Word of God.
How? The blood of Jesus Christ has now cleared all the obstacles which made it diffucult for humankind to see the LIGHT and the TRUTH.
*Remember King Solomon was blessed with Devine Wisdom. This song wass actually a prophesy of the coming of Jesus Christ, the Messiah and the future of humankind.

6.Verse 11 requires further comment. This tells us the worst is now over.We have now crossed the river Jordan. There is no more going back to Egypt (past life of sin and suffering)We are now hearding to Canaan (Kingdom of God) through the blood of the lamb, Jesus Christ, the Messiah.

    7. Verse 14 is a call upon the Holy Spirit to lead us into the path of LIGHT and TRUTH.Oh my dove, refers to the Holy Spirit.Remember the baptism of Jesus Christ, the Messiah.

8.Verse 15 is a call upon the Holy Spirit to frustrate the evil plans of the cabal, the dark forces of this world. These evil forces lead people astray through false religion, outright wickedness and other forms of mind programming.
They bring a lot of suffering in the world through wars, deliberate spread of diseases, greed and promotion of moral decadence.

9.Verses 16 and 17 are calling us to hold steadfast to the Word of God.The Word of God will endure until all the evil forces have been subdued and after that humankind shall receive SALVATION.

10.To understand the Bible we need to pray first so that God All Mighty might have mercy and reveal the Truth to us.

11.This book of Solomon has nothing to do with romantic love.Sorry to say this.It is a mystery which requires God's guidance.

I think our love WITH the LORD is a romantic love.
THE LOVE OF GOD toward US (his children) is AGAPE' (Unconditional) love. My favorite part is vs. 15 the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vine.

I think this talks about the troubles we face in life. it shows how God can and will restore your life. it gives hope for a better time.
