Romans 9:22, "vessels of wrath, fitted for destruction". Destruction=destroyed for eternity. These people are going to hell.
V.23"vessels of mercy, which he afore prepared unto glory." He predestined the elect for eternal glory in his Kingdom. Amen.
V.28 "The Gentiles were grafted into salvation, though the Jews. Not called "God's people", then God calls them "His people". Children of God.

Exactly what you thought. Nobody can question God. He knew what both of them were capable of doing even their descendants as well.
  • Johnny on Romans 9 - 8 years ago
God loves Jacob Israel and hates Esau Edom, which is the forefather of the Roman Empire. Read the meaning of Esau in Classical baby names and also Genesis 25:25 and down. The vessel made to honor is Jacob Israel and the vessel fitted for destruction is Esau. From 13 down it's talking about Jacob and Esau, but uses Egypt as an example of how he raised Egypt to power and showed his wrath. He also raised Esau to power to show his wrath on Esau.

If is by grace we are saved through faith. The "election of grace" is simply the means that God has established to make salvation available to all through the operation of faith. The only elect and precious one is the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith in his death, burial and resurrection brings us into union with him when we call upon His Name. He that hath the Son hath life. So in Ephesians we read that we are chosen "in Him" - not chosen to be in Him. Many are called to come to Christ Jesus, but only those who are in union with Him by faith are chosen by association. In short, our position in Christ deems us to be chosen and blessed together with Him by grace. To Him belongs all glory, majesty and power - as Paul wrote in v5 of Chpt. 9 "God blessed forever. Amen"

ROM.chapters 9,10,and 11 are addressed to Israel, and not to the body of Christ. You have to rightly divide the word of God. All scripture is for our learning but not necessarily to us. We are gentiles and under grace, they are Jews and are under the kingdom gospel. God saves Jews today through grace also, but like most people they don't except the apostle Paul's epistols. TOMMY P

Was in Romans 9 this morning and was pondering and meditating over the same scriptures. The Lord impressed on me the same thing - that those things were written although seeming harsh to our carnal mind because he knew how men would turn out, that ultimately they would go away from him. The whole message I believe is really again to emphasise that man turn to God through faith and not works - hence to be a vessel for honour and not dishonour. Praise God!

Verses 10-18 has given me problems understanding. When first read, it appeared God was arbitrarily choosing one person over another to be a follower of righteousness and the other to be the oppressor. Yet, the entire Bible talks of God 's wanting ALL to be followers of His Spirit. My only conclusion at this time is that God knew from the beginning how each person was going to turn out and since He gave man free will, he LET each choose to be either a follower of righteouness or of perdition...with the heart of those choosing a sinful nature being hardened over time by their own choices. Anyone else given thought to this? Can you add some Scripture that might help me better understand?

God is sovereign over his creation.one a vessel of honor to one a vessel of wrath ,yet he is not willing that anyone should perish.but that all should come to repentance...

  • Charlie on Romans 9:16 - 9 years ago
The will of Him who sends us is stronger than our will. He wills and works for His good pleasure. It is His good pleasure to give us the Kingdom, and to those who receive Him He gives us the right to become sons of God ... not of bloods, but by His Blood ... not of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of men, but of God. Not him who willeth, not him who runneth ... but by the abundant mercy of God who wills His good pleasure upon whom He chooses.
  • Onyekachi orji on Romans 9 - 9 years ago
God has the final say, lt is not of him that willeth nor of him that runneth but of God that showeth mercy. We cannot question Gods action for we are but a clay in the potters hand.
  • Okey Kanu on Romans 9:16 - 9 years ago
Blessing, promotion, is at the discretion of God. Our effort, strength is so limited. What have you achieved that God has not given to you. That is why as christains we should be very mindful of boasting. The Bible says ' Who is man that you are so mindful of ' This tells us that Gods mercy is just the determinant of how far a man reaches in life.
  • Mr Amdife James on Romans 9:16 - 9 years ago
His mercies are too common in the eye s of men,of him who is willeth, runneth. But in the present of GOD his mercies are powerful.
  • Mikye on Romans 9:16 - 9 years ago
It is God that make thing to happen not our effort.
  • Michael on Romans 9:11 - 9 years ago
It 's interesting that it says Jacob I loved Esau I hated he did this prior to there earthly existence and not because Pf anything they did good or bad right or wrong ...mankind was judged guilty at the tree of knowledge good and evil because prior to that had no knowledge of sin. For him who knows its sin has sinned . So scripture says that the reason ma. Will be judged to hell is because he sinned against God both Jacob and Esau were sinners ...Both had the eternal judgment upon them ..my feeling is since the reason God hated Esau and loved Jacob was not on the basis opt sin but by his choice , therefore it couldn 't be salvationin question here because scripture says by sin and non belief a sinner ggoes to hell while a saved sinner goes to heaven be ause he believes God not because God chose him over and above someone else .
  • Oludairo Julius Kayode on Romans 9:21 - 10 years ago

God didnt love everybody in the Bible. That scripture makes it clear especially about Esau.
  • Deborah on Romans 9 - 10 years ago
verse 13 threw 21 shows Gods devine nature and how he see s the hart and intent of man And that he is the maker He is in control of every man And he will judge and judge justly I think sometimes we forget we are the clay in his hand as was Jacob Esau and Pharaoh
  • Mr Johnbless on Romans 9:16 - 10 years ago
It not because we are qaulify but by God s mercy and love
  • Tim George on Romans 9 - 10 years ago
The scripture said Jacob have I loved but Esau have I hated Cain was not mentioned but without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin Esau hated his birthright and sold it for a morsel of soup and Cain brought an offering from the ground Both tried to please God without a blood sacrifice God loved Jacob because he came to Jesus by faith and without faith it is impossible to please God It is the sin of unbelief that God hates Esau and Cain could have been accepted had they come by faith as Abel and Jacob did
  • Novamouy17 on Romans 9 - 10 years ago
regardless of the mistakes of man when writing the bible trying to interpret the word of god I believe that God did not hate Cain but hated his attitude

  • Mark Raymond on Romans 9 - 10 years ago
Concerning verse 13. Why does he say "It is written, abel i loved and cain i hated"? Does it mean that God hated cain because of his attitude in sacrifice, compared to Abels sacrifice? And with the hundreds of translations of the Supposed spoken word of God. Whos authority does the Righteous God of the universe, endorse as being the true written word from god? Theres so much contoversy about the different translations and whos right and wrong in the interpretation of the words of god.
  • Abnermoon on Romans 9:27 - 10 years ago
This passage has to do with salvation Though the children of God are so numerous only a remnant will be saved This tells you that the vast majority will not be saved Why Because they are deceived They follow another Jesus another gospel another spirit They have not discerned the truth of scripture and have fallen prey to false doctrine The traditions of men and the commentary of grievous wolves have led these children of God to the fire Few be saved

IF I WOULD USE FOR AN THOUGHT I WOULD SAY FAVOR LORD. GOD HAVE MERCY ON WHOM HE WANT TO HAVE MERCY ON, I CAN GO BACK TO ANOTHER SCRIPTURE WHERE IT SAYS HE THAT THINKETH HE STAND TAKE HEED LEST HE FALL. GET IN THE FAVOR OF GOD
