People's Bible Notes for Romans 12:16

Ro 12:16 [Be] of the same mind one toward another. Let there be harmony; a spirit of concord. Mind not high things. Do not seek for official or social distinction. Obedience to this would eliminate caste from the church. But condescend to men of low estate. Instead of seeking pre-eminence, we are to walk in lowly spirit like our Savior. Be not wise in your own conceits. Conceited and opinionated as the result.

A sacrifice is that which is utterly devoted to God. The christian walk is therefore, a living devotion to God. This may be accomplished through transformation. The believer experiences this state of transformation by the operation of the Holy Spirit's renewing of mind, making possible for the believer to prove what is good, acceptable and the perfect will of God

I think that this is our opportunity to wholly give ourselves to God and still remain alive. Usually when a sacrifice is made, an animal is killed and the body is presented. It is reasonable for us to give ourselves a sacrifice and continue being alive.

I think that Paul is explaining to us how we as Christian are suppose to live. Verses 17 and 21 bring back memories to me as a young child, how it was " to get even" with those who mistreated me. I was raised in the church, but also as verse 2 states " and be not confirmed to this world" I was to an extent. But praise the Lord, by His love, Grace and mercy my mind has been transformed.
