Wesley's Notes for Revelation 2:17

2:17 To him that overcometh - And eateth not of those sacrifices. Will I give of the hidden manna - Described, John vi. The new name answers to this: it is now hid with Christ in God. The Jewish manna was kept in the ancient ark of the covenant. The heavenly ark of the covenant appears under the trumpet of the seventh angel, #Rev 11:19|, where also the hidden manna is mentioned again. It seems properly to mean, the full, glorious, everlasting fruition of God. And I will give him a white stone - The ancients, on many occasions, gave their votes in judgment by small stones; by black, they condemned; by white ones they acquitted. Sometimes also they wrote on small smooth stones. Here may be an allusion to both. And a new name - So Jacob, after his victory, gained the new name of Israel. Wouldest thou know what thy new name will be? The way to this is plain, - overcome. Till then all thy inquiries are vain. Thou wilt then read it on the white stone.

People's Bible Notes for Revelation 2:17

Re 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear. See PNT "Re 2:7". I will give to eat of the hidden manna. The bread of life, the bread from heaven. The living bread is Jesus Christ, unseen in the earth and hence called hidden. I will give him a white stone. Among the Greeks a white stone was a symbol of acquittal, as a black stone was of guilt. The white stone implies justification, innocence and victory. And in the stone a new name written. All conjectures concerning this new name are idle. It is only given to those who have finally overcome and cannot be known to us here, but implies their new relation to God and the Lamb in their triumphant state.

How he correct the seven church he told of their faults. He then told them how to correct their faults. So would doing their faults

Annwashi1955; Hebrews 12:2 LOOKING UNTO JESUS! We are taught by the Lord, and all His servants, that we are set to encounter tribulation, temptations, opposition and contradiction, from the world, the flesh, and the devil. The only way for us to walk in constant victory and a good conscience toward God, is by an earnest contending through the Spirit, out of a deeply established heart for Jesus.

It is true we have left out our first love for Jesus. We have become too busy with the things of this life and have not sought first the kingdom of heaven. Let us repent, right now.

To Irene from 3 months ago, Jeremiah 6; All of the churches were "salvageable" otherwise the Lord wouldn't have sent to speak to them to repent! Ephesus was in danger of being removed altogether of her place even as a Lampstand for the Lord because they forgot their first love! So what good then will be all their activities? Laodicea was rich in this world, luke warm, stupid and blind spiritually.

We have no real comparison today to the Church in Ephesus, as far as importance and leadership among the Churches. It looks like they were just perfect in their religious activities, and nothing to be blamed, but the Lord points to their fault as so serious, that He is about to remove them from being His light bearers in the world. How could their hearts have grown cold toward Jesus?

The white stone is not the stone of the Christian church. The foundation of the Christian church is, Jesus is savior. This white stone has the name of the Son of Man, not the son of God, written as savior = religion of Israel. They call the son of their God, their false bloodline christ, a killer, the rod of iron is a rifle. Jesus does not kill, he never breaks GODs law not to kill.
