    Psalm 98

This Psalm begins in verse 1 with a "new song". The "right arm" which gets the victory along with openly showing His righteousness (verse 2) shows His return after Armageddon to begin ruling with a rod of iron but with justice ( Rev. 2:27; Psalm 9:8).

There is a new song earlier sung by the 144,000 in heaven at an earlier date ( Rev. 14:3). There is one earlier on though; in Revelation 5:9 which appears to be those raptured and singing to the One worthy to open the seals who has overcome.

Verses 3 through 6 remind us of His presence being known throughout the earth and celebration to be given with instruments. His mercy and truth to the House of Israel mentioned in verse 3 makes it clear that God has once again salvaged Israel and restored it's covenant promises.

God judging the world with "equity" is true balanced judgment; not perverted sorts of methodologies which we see so often today. No doubt the prophecy in Isaiah 2:4 will be appropriate as swords are beaten into plowshares. That verse mentions settling "many disputes" as well; and no doubt we will rule and reign with Him in a supporting role over "many cities" for those faithfully following Him now ( Luke 19:17).

The mention of the sea roaring in verse 7 once again shows this as a Millennial event; as no more sea exists at the end of that time period.

  • Learning how to be more like Jesus - In Reply on Psalms 98 - 3 years ago
20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

Most of us do not respond well to criticism or ridicule. However we always love praise for our efforts.

This is saying that whatever the opinion or outcome: take it PATIENTLY. This was really hard for me to learn! I was like the President: you smack me I smack you back twice.

If you ever prayed, Lord, help me to be more patient..... it will be painful to learn but afterwards you will look more like the Lord. Temperance is even harder; but you will be blessed when you know you passed the test.

Now when something tests me, I say Holy Spirit: what just happened? He'll say, watch and see.

It's hard for people like Peter and I was: Hands flying and we see Jesus pick up some guys ear and put it back on the guy.

Being patient is good. Follow the Lords lead. He leads. We follow.

    Shirley,

For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted, literally beaten with fists, for your faults, and the word faults is the word sin. And we take it patiently? That is, we endure a beating because we have sinned. But if we do well, and suffer for it, and take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. If we function in a way in God's administration, the way He has created us to function, and we suffer for it, and we take it patiently, that is, we endure under it, this is acceptable with God.

The word acceptable is the word grace. God identifies Himself and His grace with the lowly, with those who need His grace, which is why we're told three times in the New Testament that God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. So we're talking about God's grace here.

This section is talking about submission. Verse 18 talks about masters. As we get into the understanding of submission, and slavery back in those times, my master is abusive, but because of my conscience toward God, because of my personal relationship with Christ, I'm not going to fight for my rights.

I'm not going to protest the injustice. But I'm going to submit myself to God. And what does God do? His grace ministers to me, and is sufficient. Now if we think that's pretty harsh, Verses 21 through 25 is the submission example. Guess who that might be?

Verse 21 tells us that this is a calling. This is a calling to function in the way that God has designed us to function, in the midst of a system that is antichrist and rebellious against God. We've got two administrations going in different directions. We have to do what is right with one, but we have to line up with the other.

Because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that we should follow His steps. Wow, powerful words here! He suffered for us, leaving us an example!

what does "take it patiently" mean in 1 peter 2:20-21?
  • David Eldon Siebel on Psalms 98 - 3 years ago
Praise is truly important. Especially in times of great distress. Recently I was under persecution because the powers that be wanted a natural explanation for my skills. They wanted a weakness to exploit for the sake of there sadistic pleasures. But I made it clear my greatest strength is from that of The Holly Spirit. As a member of the Creed of Christians I have trained and experienced the hounds of horror. But despite the immense torment that the Devil himself has brought upon me I still thank God for it all. Because if it wasn't for these impactful experiences, how could I truly know what it means to be a Man of God?

Pray for me Brothers and Sisters. For the journey has only just begun.

Psalm 98 is the 98th psalm of the Book of Psalms, generally known in English by its first verse, in the King James Version, "O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvellous things". The Book of Psalms is the third section of the Hebrew Bible, and a book of the Christian Old Testament. In the Greek Septuagint version of the bible, and in its Latin translation in the Vulgate, this psalm is Psalm 97 in a slightly different numbering system. In Latin, it is known as "Cantate Domino".[1] The psalm is a hymn psalm, one of the Royal Psalms, praising God as the King of His people.

The psalm is a regular part of Jewish, Catholic, Anglican and Protestant liturgies. It has been set to music often.
