Psalms Chapter 69 Discussion

Psalm 69. The first few verses of the Psalm are reminiscent of Psalm 40 and several other psalms about being lifted from the mire.

Verses 3 through 8 precede verse 9 which was quoted in the New Testament ( John 2:17) when Jesus overturned the moneychangers tables (done at least one more time at the end of His ministry). They all could be prophetic about Christ as well; except for verse 5 talking of David's foolishness and sin; as well as the end of verse 4 where he was sid to "restore that which was not taken away" which would seem to indicate he had to give compensation to those accusing him of stealing stuff that he never took from them.

Verses 10 through 12 involving sackcloth and fasting also would apply to David alone (Christ's fasting wasn't for any sins of his own but as an example of how to be more fully empowered with the Spirit to cast out particular demons ( Matt. 17:21). When we go further from verses 13 through 19 once again the themes of mire and deep waters are mentioned; and these passages once again are rather interchangeable between David and Christ's trials.

Verses 20-22 once again are clearly prophetic; Christ's heart literally was boken (v. 20); verse 21 is quoted in Matt. 27:33-34; and verse 22 through 28 are likely describing Judas Iscariot as seen more clearly in Psalm 109 and several other passages. I would say that verse 28 is describing the book of ALL living souls; not the Book of Life. Finally; verse 29 also ties in with Psalm 109 in describing Christ at the crucifixion.

The rest of this Psalm gives hopefulness with again a Millennial type Kingdom to come. Sacrifice isn't needed of animals (v. 31) but I suspect it is a ceremonial and memorial thing.

Prisoners will be released (v. 33); and the land will have it's covenant borders and the world blessed (v. 34-end). The Lord will be praised throughout the earth. Amen.

May the Lord shine His face mightily on all who calls for His great hand of Comfort and Joy. It is not easy to rejoice in the trials before us, but God promises to give us a "way to escape, that we may be able to bear it." Hallelujah!

    1 Cor 10:13; James 1: 2-5

In this time of our government's inability to give stability and trust to our people, let us continue to call on the Lord and follow hard on His wisdom and guidance to come through this pandemic and economic disaster. 2 Chronicles 7: 14, 15

I pray for our President Joe Biden and all his advisors to come to salvation in Christ Name, and there by be able to govern wisely and righteously. I pray for the churches of the saints to continue to preach the gospel and take the battle to the front and "...and some have compassion, making a difference...pulling them out of the fire..."

    Jude 22, 23

Thank you Lord for hearing and answering our cries.

I grew up poor, but I can only remember going to bed hungry once as a child. My income right now is below the poverty line. However, considered poor by the world's standards, I am extremely wealthy! I have a relationship with with Jehovah, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I have peace, love, joy, happiness and get to feel the presence of God daily. Jesus died on the Cross for me and loves me unconditionally. I am grateful for all I have. My health, my children, my fur babies, a roof over my head, the lists goes on and on! I am the wealthy one, I am the wealthy one indeed!

2 Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Psalms 51:11: Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

    Does a Christian ever have to pray this in light of John 14:16? And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

2 Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, RIGHLY DIVIDING the word of truth. What does it mean to be "in Christ"?

What parts of the Bible are aimed at the Body of Christ and what parts are aimed at Israel? Is Romans 11 talking about individuals or the nation of Israel and gentiles as a group?

@ Steve Morrow This is God's unconditional love for the born-again Christian, who is in Christ:

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

Oguna Harry got it. The forces of darkness pursue all who are in Christ. Be watchful when you are not being persecuted, it could just be that the lack of knowledge has given you false freedom for the son of man had nowhere to lay his head, the bible says. The devil is so organised and has no shame. He will destroy you just when you think that knowing Christ is the ultimate thing. Get delivered!

Psalms 69 verse 5. I can remember when I was in the world and how I did so many foolish things that brought shame to my family and to God. I know that we cannot hide our sins from God, because his eyes is in every place beholding the evil and the good.

I think that is wonderful that the love David has for the Most High is annoying the company he keeps. But he keeps on praising and being obedient.

The only reason the forces of darknes contends with us is because we have loved the Lord our God and confessed the name of His Son our Savior, the zeal to glorify Him in His house our holy body has eaten us up,but no matter what enemies do,our Lord has "assured " victory

This is messianic psalm of David. It speaks of Christ pouring his soul to God the Father in the face of impendind death for the salvation of me and you. If christ the Son of God was able to pray to his Father, what makes you and me not to come boldly to the throne of grace to find mercy and grace during the times of our needs? Indeed the Father saved the Son from the sinking death and grave. Can our God stands afar from your grievous and sinking situations? Not at all. Those who has acknowledged and accepted Christ as their Savior, the Father surely will meet their needs.

jesus was given vinegar to drink instead of water, this was significant because during the last supper when he drank the wine that symbolized his blood, he told his deciples that he would not drink of this fruit again until he drank with them in heaven, the other drinks offered him was mixed with wine.

This is a great mystery. It is the mystery of sin. The degree to which the sinless Son of God actually entered into our sins, "bearing our sins in his body on the cross" will never, in this life or the next, be fully known or appreciated. The total identification of Jesus with the shame and sorrow of sin has never been and will never be understood. Even writing this, I am amazed. What I know is that any shame I have ever felt, he felt many times over. Any reproach I have ever borne, he bore doubled and squared. He who alone bore the glorious name of God as his own became of "no reputation," while we who are but dust seek great names for ourselves, - and yet he loves us still. How can this be? What wondrous love is this, oh my soul.
  • Timothy Wayne George on Psalms 69 - 12 years ago
The Lord Jesus Christ when he said "I Thirst" on the cross completed this Psalm. Jesus is the water of life, and we need to eat his flesh, and drink his blood to be saved. I pray that if anyone thirst today that he will receive Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. May the Lord bless you richly my beloved.
