To understand Psalm 2:12, we have to take in the other verses as well. Starting from verse 6, the Psalmist speaks, under the inspiration of the Spirit, about a coming King to set up His Kingdom in Zion (Hill of Jerusalem). God refers to him as a His Son, & One Who is begotten (the Hebrews writer quotes this in Hebrews 1:5 when writing about the superiority of Jesus over the angels).

And to this Son, all of Earth will be His possession (in that day) & so the solemn instruction & warning to the "kings & rulers of the Earth" (v 10), to be wise & not foolish. The wise one will "kiss the Son" (v 12): not a literal kiss of affection, but as in Eastern cultures, one of homage/obeisance to one who is greater than them (it may be a bowing down, or a kiss on the hand or garment). So when the Son (Jesus) is acknowledged & worshipped, the one doing so will not experience His Anger or rejection as those who show Him disdain. But it is one thing to acknowledge the coming King, but another to put one's trust & love upon Him. There will be a time in the future, when Jesus will not only be acknowledged as the Messiah & King by all, but will also receive the love & trust that His rightfully His from those who are witnesses of this, turning their unbelief & rejection into belief, trust & deep love for the One Who comes in the Name of LORD. Psalm 118:26 and Mark 11:9,10 show the first cry of joy at Christ's coming.

So, the Psalm 2 is a prophetical Psalm - maybe unknown to the writer, but now revealed to us in Jesus.

I hope you find cheer in the LORD's promises:

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ( Psalm 27:1) - Recommend to read the whole psalm.

The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. ( Psalm 147:11)

If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. ( John 14:15-18)

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ( John 15:18-19)

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. ( 2 Timothy 2:19)

Jerry, Thank you, you are not alone in what God has called you to DO.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2Chronicles 7:14

This is the keystone to a revival of the church in the world.

Jerry: since you are able to see these things in yourself, you are not as far away from the Lord as you think. You recognize these things in your life. Jesus is able to work with you and to help you do better. Thought this would encourage you.
  • Chris - In Reply on Psalms 2 - 3 years ago
Thanks for sharing that testimony, Jerry. It's only when we come to the end of ourselves, acknowledge our estrangement from the Lord Who loves us & waits for us, & humble ourselves in repentance, then only can we find His forgiveness & restoration. And what a change of scene that is: out of darkness (of fears, struggles & sin) into His marvellous Light (of forgiveness, joy & peace). No better place to be: in the Palm of His Hand & secure in His Love.

May God lead you further in His Truth & conforming you each day into the image of His Son. Colossians 3:1-4.

Verse 12 "Blessed are all they that put their trust in him."

For a long time now, I've been focusing on my problems, struggles, and fiery trials; trying to manage them in my own power. I have not been trusting God as I am commanded to. I've been living in sin because I have not been obeying His command to trust Him and be at peace.

Recently, I was rebuked by someone very close to me who has been watching me; someone who I'm supposed to have been living my Christian life in front of, and I see more clearly how I've been behaving-like a man without a God. It's shameful, frightening, and cause for joy at the same time. I see more of just how weak my faith really is; how selfish I've been to the people around me. I may know a few things about the Word and even teach it, but I haven't been living it as I ought.

This last part of the verse reminds me that if I will simply trust the Lord, leave all things to Him, lay them at His feet, cast my cares upon Him and walk away joyfully-trusting in Him, I could be a lot happier. May the Lord grant me more of this grace, in Jesus's name-amen.

Pray, right now; everyone the Lord wrath is here. It started out asfloods and famine; now it's plagues. Our brothers and sisters that live for the pleasures of this world.born into sin shape out of iniquity. God is given everyone a chance to seek and find him, while he maybe found. Seek God face, do not get lost into what this world has to offer. Repent and pray turn away from your wicked ways and turn to the Lord. Or he will turn the lost over to a reprobate mind.

I am amazed how things written centuries ago are still VERY fitting for us today. There's no way any of this would be possible if the Bible was merely just ... a book!
  • Bob on Psalms 2 - 3 years ago
Verse 2:12 just blows my mind... the Bible is an incredible book, God is totally AWESOME! David, alive 100s of years before Jesus Christ, and human (like us), is telling us to "kiss the Son". Wow! Talk about God's goodness to give him that kind of revelation. David loved the Lord, and for 150 Psalms you can see it in each one.

Nimrod just had too much money. What he meant for evil was altered to be a blessing. Imagine if the whole world didn't have diff. Customs, music, clothes, travel. We'd never go anywhere.
  • Kevin Mack on Psalms 2 - 3 years ago
Some things never change. Just like Nimrod who had the tower of babble built to try and take over Gods kingdom. Lie to the people of that time period and gave another reason why he wanted the tower built so he could have his way. he was the 1st.Freemason' that ever existed, he invented the craft, the whole doctrines from 1st.degree Mason to 99 degree Mason. Witchcraft to the max. He became very arrogant and thought he could win a war against the most high. Satan controlled him 100%. Centuries later year 2020 the same people, same luciferian spirit, same Freemason's, and illuminate members relatives are going to try it again ! Didn't learn a thing from the first failed attempt to take over.

"He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh . . ." But not in the way slighted people laugh when the bully falls. Jesus' laughter is that of someone in great sorrow. He has no pleasure in the death of anyone (especially the unsaved).

God is Love, He is merciful and compassionate, He is also the Judge of all things. It may seems on the surface that He is doino nothing about the world's current situation but know for sure that He in total control at all times. In His own timing our Lord will manifest His glory and His power - Ps 2 v 4 He that sitters in the heavens shall laugh - the Lord shall have them in derision (scorn)

Heathen have chosen as did Cain,a way that seems right to them, recipients of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, before the tree of life. The order was clear to Adam, but he subjected himself and posterity to Satan.Without life within the fruit of knowledge is deadly poisonous, evident in today's world that struggles/craves for life without God."He that hath the Son,hath life",and the truth of God
