Hi, I am a baby in Christ and i am learning the word of God because i need to know his word and truth for myself. In order for me to do his will and works for his people i need a foundation and a rock o stand on. As for what this chapter is saying, i might be wrong, but i am going to say it anyway, because that's how you learn right, I was one of those people before i turned my life over to God.

I've been in total dismay for a long time, sick of all that life throws at me. As I sat here once again in my affliction, wondering why so much always befalls me, God has lead me to this Psalm and it has spoke to me in many ways on a personal level. Showing me that he is in charge, he does indeed understand the severity of my affliction, and my own iniquity is the reason for the chastening. It is not just mere bad luck why I've gone thru so much. Oftentimes I err in life thinking like a Deist and anything I do is vain and God is hardly involved with the affairs of men. But today God has shown great mercy and has restored hope to an idolatrous sinner who's forgotten the way of life. I'm so grateful to have such a great King and a loving Father. May power, praise, honor and glory His forever! Thank you Lord for being a Wonderful Counselor and a Mighty God to us all. Never forget like I did that he does know, and he does indeed care. Believe in him and his goodness for you. Seek his face for it is not in vain to do so. God bless.

  • Mike Vs43 on Psalms 107 - 8 years ago
While I don 't consider myself to be truly wise I can 't help but look at our society and see my country almost as a whole openly defy God. Immorality is rampant and most churches are nothing more than country clubs. The more I see and the more I learn the more it angers and upsets me. I can only imagine the heartache a perfect and holy God must feel when those he created openly defy him. I can only imagine the anger at our continual refusal to worship him. Yet through it all still the sun rises, still the world spins, and still 2000 plus years ago knowing all this Christ died for us. It is when I think on these things it is then that I can begin to grasp just a small portion of how great the loving kindness of God really is.

The psalm show how great and wonderful God is despite our afflictions. God is always there no matter how bad the situation is. Just trust and call onto him.
  • Adelle on Psalms 107 - 9 years ago
vss 8, 15, 21, 31 are exactly the same. How important it is that men Praise God for his goodness and his wonderful works to the children of men. The life struggles of man finds NO HELP for him but the MERCY and GRACE of God. He said it, then repeated it 3 times: "O that men would praise God for his goodness and his wonderful works to the children of men. " Praise him in the congregation, praise him to the elders, praise him in the morning, praise him at the noon time, let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. PRAISE YE THE LORD!

I could never exhaust the Goodness of God. God is always Good . Even in correcting me : chastising me : giving me directions to go in the right path that He has already mapped out for me . His mercy is from everlasting to everlasting. I will through out eternity ever be learning of His Great Mercy.

I went away to sea as an engineer in the British merchant navy, in the mid 50 's to mid 60 's and learned much about myself. Now i am 78 and have never forgotten the men that i sailed with or those succeed. next Sunday 13th July is Sea Sunday, and I have been asked to lead the intersession prayers, and in order to get my mind in gear I have read through this beautiful passage which has certainly done the job.

God sent His Word to heal His people. Jesus spoke the word and the centurion's servant was healed. Now WE can speak the word of healing ( Acts 3:6).

  • Radcliffe on Psalms 107 - 10 years ago
One of the best. Some of Scripture's most powerful verses, especially vs. 13-16 - believe it, and He will deliver you:

13 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.

14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.

15 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

16 For he hath broken the gates of br***, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.
  • Timothy Wayne George on Psalms 107 - 10 years ago
The theme of this Psalm O that men would praise the Lord, for His goodness, and wonderful works to the children of men. Over and over we find ourselves in trouble for the past mistakes we have made, but when we cry to the Lord in our affliction, He delivers us from all our trouble. Always praise the Lord, for He is good, and His mercy endures forever.
  • Paul on Psalms 107 - 11 years ago
I love this Bible verse because it builds me up.
  • Alex on Psalms 107 - 11 years ago
Psalms 107:4-5 talks about those who cannot find their place in life, verses 10-11: those entangled in bondage ad trapped in darkness, verse 19-22: those whose sin reduces them to fool, verse 23-24 those who veered off course after all the good things God has done for them, they give the reward to themselves instead of being rewarded by God. Any difficult situation that they faced GOD still came through for them. We might be born again children of God but if we dont understand the love of God, we are going to live a miserable life. These people spoken in this chapter know that it is God who could save them; when they cried to the Lord he heard them. What does the Lord mean? The Lord means owner, we dont own our lives but Jesus owns them. We are going to face challenges in life and if we understand how much he loves us, life will be full of joy. And to know the love of Christ, which passeth all knowledge, that ye might b filled with all the fullness of GOD, Ephesians 3:17-19.
  • Bobbie L Smith on Psalms 107:20 - 11 years ago
Read this commentary on this scripture, I found it helpful:
Verse 20, Recovery from sickness must be ascribed to the Lord, and gratitude should flow forth because of it. But the text describes spiritual and mental sickness. Notice, the Patient in his extremity. He is a fool: by nature inclined to evil. He has played the fool (see Psalms 107:17 ), "transgression", "iniquities." He now has lost all appetite and is past all cure. He is at death's door. But he has begun to pray. The Cure is in its simplicity.
