Psalms Chapter 101 Discussion

    Shauna,

If you are referring to Psalm 138:8, I would say this is talking about God in His infinite wisdom perfecting our lives.

Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

The word good used in this verse is the word AGATHOS, meaning spiritual good. Human good is KALOS. Spiritual good is AGATHOS.

That makes a big difference because if I'm looking at it religiously, (humanly), and on a horizontal physical plain, when it says "all thing work together for good," that means in the human, God's going to work things out good for me in the human and in the flesh.

No, this is spiritual good. Also, please notice that it doesn't say all things are good. It says that all things are going to be worked out for the good.

What's good and bad in the human, that's our judgment system. To God, everything is good because He's doing everything. And when we have things "go wrong," in God's vocabulary, that's not even in there. We might say, "Lord, things are going wrong." But to Him everything is going right.

We know that all things work together for good, and look at the two descriptions of the people for whom everything is working out for the good. It is to those who love God, and to those who are called according to His purpose.

Why? Because everything's going to work out according to the will of God, so that when I do pray for the Lord's will to be done, I can know because this is a promise right from God, that all things work together for the good. It's because He's working it out in our lives. He's perfecting us!

    Matthew Henry Commentary:

David was certainly the penman of this psalm, and it has in it the genuine spirit of the man after God's own heart; it is a solemn vow which he made to God when he took upon him the charge of a family and of the kingdom. Whether it was penned when he entered upon the government, immediately after the death of Saul (as some think), or when he began to reign over all Israel, and brought up the ark to the city of David (as others think), is not material; it is an excellent plan or model for the good government of a court, or the keeping up of virtue and piety, and, by that means, good order, in it: but it is applicable to private families; it is the householder's psalm. It instructs all that are in any sphere of power, whether larger or narrower, to use their power so as to make it a terror to evil-doers, but a praise to those that do well. Here is,

    I. The general scope of David's vow (v. 1, 2).

II. The particulars of it, that he would detest and discountenance all manner of wickedness (v. 3-5, 7, 8) and that he would favour and encourage such as were virtuous (v. 6).

When I want to read some commentaries on a scripture, I actually Google the verses and read several commentaries to get a larger view. Goggle this way:

    "Chapter, verse, Bible commentaries"

I choose the BibleHub site mostly

The KingJamesBibleOnline site has commentaries on it. That box is located below the search box. Put your verse in it; and scroll down slowly till you see it.

Its very important your belief and faith in the Word of GOD-the Word is GOD-and beliving that "the last enemy to be destroyed is death, apostle Paul".The Holy Spirit left very clear by Paul Apostle that"The last ENEMY that shall be destroyed is death".1Cor.15:v.24-28&51-55:

24 The END comes when He shall have delivered up the kingdom to GOD, even the Father; when He shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

25 For He must reign, till He hath put all enemies under His feet.

26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

27 For He hath put all things under His feet ...

28 And when all things shall be subdued unto Him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto Him that put all things under Him, that GOD may be all in all.

51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52 In a moment...at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound ( Revelation 11:15-18), and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this MORTAL must put on immortality.

54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Philippians 3:v.20-21: 20 For our conversation is in heaven;from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall CHANGE OUR VILE BODY, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body(see Luke 24:v.36to45 and 20:v.35-36), according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself.

Compare the vision above in Rom.8:v.18-30.

By the way, there will be resurrection in this present time according Daniel 12:v.1-3 and 1Thes. 4:v.15-17. Check it out.

16 the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

From what I have read in the scriptures, first the last enemy to be destroyed is death, apostle Paul. Second Jesus Christ was the first fruits I.E. first person raised from the dead permanently. In genesis from dust thou art and unto dust thall shalt return, also in death the body decays the soul life or breath of life ends when a human takes his last breath. Then we come to the spirit, if a person is born again the spirit I.E. goes back to where it originated from. When Christ returns those asleep in Christ I.E. dead will be raised up and those alive will meet Him in the air, thessalonians gathering together changed in an instant, and go to bema to be given rewards for our faithfulness to the word not condemned for our mistakes paid for by Jesus Christ, all others will stand in last judgement of Just and unjust in revelation. This is my understanding, and for me it fits with all of scripture. I do not believe the true Gods will is to kill or else why didn't his Only begotten Son who was and is our example of how to believe and what to do. Also there was no sickness sorrow suffering or death in the bible until the serpent i.e. the devil in the garden tricked Eve and Adam and handed over power and authority of this world luke 4:5+6 that's when he became 2 Corinthians 4:4. Also in the gospels Jesus Christ said the prince of this world cometh and hath nothing in me. This is what I've gathered so far

I don't believe that our loved ones and friends that have passed on, to be with God, can see anything that happens here on earth. God says," There will be no tears/sadness in heaven." But if they could could see the things happening on earth ,there would be lots of tears and sadness.

I try to read this daily. This Psalm is a guide for the daily life of the Believer. We are in charge of our minds and hearts If we would but choose to daily live and perfect our hearts, our world would change. We need to pray for the peace of Israel, for our President, and for those in authority over us. America doesnt have a chance unless we rededicate our live to Him

In this these few verses I have heard a young man describe that if we would only focus on what is Holy living and blot out all sinful things this world has to offer we need to focus on what we can do more for farthering God,s Kinqgdom I do have a mother in Heaven and I need to tell everyone I know how to get to that amazing city I often find myself wondering about what my mother see when she looks down here and mainly what God sees when he looks at our lives and he still blesses us and gives us his mercy and grace so we just need to Thank as well as Praise God for everything and everyday Hallejah all praises to the most high God for just putting up with us.

Verse 3 stood out for me because I am disabled and now retired. I do not get out much, so I am pretty much homebound. I have been watching movies that are sometimes violent and the use of much profanity. I am trying to watch decent family type movies. I want to stop watching them completely. O Lord, may this day be the day I quit putting before my eyes things that are wicked. Help me Holy Spirit to be faithful like David. Renew in me a clean heart that loves all righteous living until I enter Eternity and sin will never be remembered. Show me the narrow path to live each day for Jesus, who gave his life for me.Glory, Honor and Praise belong to You O Lord.

Read in Context BelieversPsalm 37:1-40 NEVER ENVY THE WICKED! 2019 Time is up for those who are Corrupt. vs 38-40 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: He is their strength in time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them.

Marshal (cont.); Just let me add this: Yes Israel is and for ever will be Jesus' natural family according to the flesh; and yes, He will have His day with them, when every one of them will come before His feet to worship Him as their Lord and Saviour. But for now He hides His face from them because of their defiant unbelief and hostility toward Him and the Glad Tidings. Pray for them to be saved!

Dear Marshal Allbritton; I know you meant well with your statement, and probably more or less repeating something you heard; but really, Israel is in dreadful spiritual condition! The Country is a mix of complete ungodliness and perversion, as much as any other Western Nation; and fanatic antichrist ideologies; and a trace remnant of Christians still persecuted.
  • Marshal Allbritton on Psalms 101 - 7 years ago
It is amazing how Israel is blessed so much by God. It is note worthy to point out that their country, by and large, still upholds God's ways and in tern receives God's blessings.

This is a most compact and remarkable expression of David's heart and mind. Indeed, in it is the secret of both his private and public greatness. First, he set's his own heart right and keeps his focus only and always on truth, beauty and goodness. Then, in governing God's people he becomes the dread of every evil man and the shield of all who do good. Oh that we had such a leader today. Please, LORD, give us such a President. Better still, come quickly LORD Jesus.

God is of truth abd He told us He does not like lies.He is telling us to avoid these persons, they slanderous. God does not want us to fall prey of such as He wants us Christians to be different , as He said we are a peculiar people, called, set apart, so we should be that light in the darkness, light on the candle stick not hidden but shineth the brightest. We should be the salt of the earth and not loose our flavor. God desires of us that no wickedness shall befall us if we dwell in His Truth and do His will.THANK YOU JESUS

The work of them that turn aside. This was well put for much work is being done amongst Christians that in and of itself is not evil. Yet they are tasks that do turn Christians aside from the main task of seeing souls saved and then training of those saved to be effective witnesses for Christ. Many of our churches have been tricked into being "Turned aside " by that which may seem good but is in all reality taking to much time away from the proper service of Christ.
