Discussion for Psalms 52

Why do you glory in evil, you champion of infamy? All the day you plot harm; your tongue is like a sharpened razor, you practiced deceiver! You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than honest speech. You love all that means ruin, you of the deceitful tongue!God himself shall demolish you; forever he shall break you;He shall pluck you from your tent, and uproot you from the land of the living!

I love the whole chapter, it speaks of lying and decitful people and how He will destroy in the end and oh how He loves those that do right. It speaks volumes to how you reap what you sow.

David understood the evils of the tongue and the constant perpetration of mischief. But, David was also aware of the vengeance requited to sinners by God. In this chapter, David's resolution is a life of worship and the forfeiture of personal vengeance for vindication by the Almighty.

This scripture reveals the reward of wickedness. It is a strong warning for the froward, the boastful, the hypocrites and those that practise all manners of mischiefs. God is not a respecter of persons. They may seem to flourish in their shallow understanding presently but should definitely be punished by God. Verse 5 finalizes this point stressing out in clear terms the end of the wicked. However the righteous shall flourish like the palm tree. Let us therefore try to be holy, maintain humility and pursue righteous with fear and trembling.
  • Timothy Wayne George for verse 8
David compares himself to a green olive tree in the house of the Lord. He said I will trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever. The olive tree is the longest of the living trees, and David knows that God will bless him with long life for trusting in His mercy. We can ask the question where would we be were it not for the mercy of God? We would be lost for ever. As we remember the Lord Jesus marching in Jerusalem on a donkey, and the children shouting Hosanna in the highest, let us praise God for ever and ever. Jesus said that if His children did not praise Him, the very rocks would cry out. Thank God that this body is the temple of God, and by the power of the Holy Spirit we can cry out to Him, because He is the Lamb that was slain, and is worthy to receive power, glory, majesty, and praise for ever and ever. Amen!!!
