God's Word is directional, instructive, informative and never destructive-and that is the godly truth about it. Interestingly, the book of Proverbs is simply a guide that we as 'lovers of the great and holy God' may be wise towards righteousness. Hence, it has in built directives, information, instructions, corrections, precepts upon precepts, principles and dogmas somehow inherent in it for whoever dares to believe an act on its demands. As matter of fact, I love what verse Proverbs 1:8 & 9 says- and frankly, when we look at it as we should, we can't but be blessed through it- and that is because it has to do with the faithfulness of the God kind of faith. It says: 'My son, hear the instructions of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: for they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck'. It is thus. about love- and when we understand that- and walk, as it were in that revealed knowledge, others would know that we have met He that matters most; for holy and worthy is His name. His name is JAH! He is the LORD God Almighty. It is therefore about obedience to the tenet of the Holy Writ.
  • Octavio for verse 7
Fear of the Lord is knowing the right things, and doing it, is acknowledging the commandments of God. Were men understand that, there was "the beginning" when God created the Heaven and Earth, the knowledge of Good and Evil was the beginning for mankind their acknowledgement of the laws for humanities. For anyone to ignore and disobey the laws of heaven has have an effect of the laws here in earth. Foolishness rewards often time leads to destruction when despise the human limitation.

The Word of God is truth because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it them. "Because I have called and you refused. I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way."
"Can two walk together unless they are agreed? If there is a calamity in the city, will not the LORD have done it? (Amos 3:3,6)"Who has made man`s mouth...Have not I the LORD? (Exodus 4:11)"And did not choose the fear of the LORD." (Proverbs 1:29)

Well I understand that a man without wisdom is just like an evil man meaning he can turn easy into doing evil but that that has wisdom.and the fear of God will reconsider his steps and only God give wisdom

This chapter teaches me that Wisdom is the spirit of God, and that if we fear him:(MEANING RESPECT & OBEY HIM) that we will partake in his spirit, and be wise as he is; But if we disobey; then we'll be without him, and he even starts to speak in this chapter, to go on and say that those who are disobedient will come to a moment of destruction, and then they will remember me, and call out to me and I will not hear them, in fact I will laugh at there attempt to reach out to me, and even go as far as make fun of them right the mist of there trail and tribulations....... This is a chapter that should remind us just how dangerous willful sin is, and how necessary it is for us to repent and turn from our disobedient ways.

My comment on the above chapter,,is a testomany of being obedient to the word of God,,,,,yet we know the history of Soloman the second wiseth man in the bible,,,700 wifes amongs other things!!!!!Would one call that wisdom?
  • Guess
The Lord is willing to teach us right from wrong. Fools do not want to learn anything, they just want to remain as they are, ignorant of the teachings of Christ and continue doing what they are involved in and if one of us try to talk to people about what is right they refuse to listen.

This is in response to Lynda's Proverbs Chapter 1 comment about verse 7 on 9/08/2013, 10:16am: We cannot know what to do and what not to do, if we have never read, heard or been thought about the scriptures. Because the purpose why we need to read the scriptures is written in 2 Timothy 3:1 which says that, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
  • Lynda for verse 7
The "fear" (acknowledgement of the authority & power) of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (learning obedience to His Word). His Word is God (Jesus Christ-John 1:1-14)Himself ! How can you know what to do & what not to do, if you have never read, heard or been taught? The BIBLE (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth)is to let us know the character & love of God toward us. It gives us Commandments & Precepts on "How to Live" so we will not have a sorrowful life. It lets us know we can call on God for the answers we have yet to learn out of the 66 inspired, infallible Word of God.
  • Derrick Black
The insight I discerned on Pro.1:7 is to revere and recognize the Lord first, and wisdom can be cultivated at unlimited levels in Christ Jesus.
  • Henry ikwudogu for verse 5
