Discussion for Proverbs 17

Verse 17 talks about what it means to be a true friend. Jehovah God proves to be the best example of this scripture. He is so patient and loving with us at all times even though we don't deserve it.

"He that covers a transgression seeks love; but he that repeats a matter separates very friends." One thing we should all know, by the Lord's kindness and respect for each of us; that is to not wish to make anyone an example or the brunt of jokes or gossip. Mocking, spreading slander and rumors, disrespectful whispering behind someone's back; God hates all of these, and will never wink at it!
  • A disciple
"He that hath knowledge spares his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise: and he that shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding." Being excited to learn is good; but it takes proof by experience to teach others. My Dad used to tell me, It's better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
  • A disciple
"A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causes shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren." In Matthew 8:11-12, as in many other places, the warning is clearly, that name and privilege does not give anyone a free pass, regardless of moral character. The fact that the Jews as a people have generally rejected Jesus, and that the Gentiles have received Him, shows this!
  • Mr. Smith
vs 2, Wise servant/shameful son (see Eccl. 10:7). The servant operating out of the authority of his imagination (heart) will rule (have power) over a son operating from the sense realm (human lusts, ie. prodigal son, Luke 15). The person that discovers their divine position (Ps. 82:6, John 10:34) will share the inheritance (blessings) along with other like-minded (Gal. 3:29) in Christ.
