Discussion for Proverbs 16:18

  • Axel Gipson for verse 18
After visiting at least 20 different websites, not one of them could explain what Proverbs 16: 18 really means. well, I 've been wresting with this verse but with no progress until I looked up the key word "before " in my Bible Concordance. And there it was, the answer, in the Hebrew "paw-neem " a prime root for the word "face " pride begins to crumble, fall apart, like the bricks in a high wall when the one full of pride sees destruction. When they see it looming right up close and personal, then they knees get weak, they couldn 't speak...they can almost taste it... then pride falls away in front of, before, in the presence of, in the face of Destruction. So this appears as a process, a two part progression, wherein the pride and the worldly and fleshly life, both fall together...but the chastened child of God is preserved. This just my own opinion though, taken from the fact that the Hebrew word used in this verse for "Destruction " is sheh '-ber, a word that means to hurt, afflict fracture or breach. Its in the sense of God having initially breached or was in the process of breaking down the high wall of the person 's pride.

God wants us to be humble for pride comes from the devil.
