The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.

2 Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.

3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?

4 Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.

5 If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?

6 How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up!

7 All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee: there is none understanding in him.

8 Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?

9 And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.

10 For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

11 In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.

12 But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

13 Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;

14 Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.

15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.

16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.

17 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.

18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

19 And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.

20 And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.

21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD'S.

Commentary for Obadiah 1

The first part denounces the destruction of Edom, dwelling upon the injuries they inflicted upon the Jews. The second foretells the restoration of the Jews, and the latter glories of the church.Destruction to come upon Edom. Their offences against Jacob. (1-16) The restoration of the Jews, and their flourishing state in the latter times. (17-21)1-16 This prophecy is against Edom. Its destruction seems to have been typical, as their father Esau's rejection; and to refer to the destruction of the enemies of the gospel church. See the prediction of the success of that war; Edom shall be spoiled, and brought down. All the enemies of God's church shall be disappointed in the things they stay themselves on. God can easily lay those low who magnify and exalt themselves; and will do it. Carnal security ripens men for ruin, and makes the ruin worse when it comes. Treasures on earth cannot be so safely laid up but that thieves may break through and steal; it is therefore our wisdom to lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven. Those that make flesh their trust, arm it against themselves. The God of our covenant will never deceive us: but if we trust men with whom we join ourselves, it may prove to us a wound and dishonour. God will justly deny those understanding to keep out of danger, who will not use their understandings to keep out of sin. All violence, all unrighteousness, is sin; but it makes the violence far worse, if it be done against any of God's people. Their barbarous conduct towards Judah and Jerusalem, is charged upon them. In reflecting on ourselves, it is good to consider what we should have done; to compare our practice with the Scripture rule. Sin, thus looked upon in the glass of the commandment, will appear exceedingly sinful. Those have a great deal to answer for, who are idle spectators of the troubles of their neighbours, when able to be active helpers. Those make themselves poor, who think to make themselves rich by the ruin of the people of God; and those deceive themselves, who call all that their own on which they can lay their hands in a day of calamity. Though judgment begins at the house of God, it shall not end there. Let sorrowful believers and insolent oppressors know, that the troubles of the righteous will soon end, but those of the wicked will be eternal.

17-21 There should be deliverance and holiness at Jerusalem, and the house of Jacob would again occupy their possessions. Much of this prophecy was fulfilled when the Jews returned to their own land. But the salvation and holiness of the gospel, its spread, and the conversion of the Gentiles, seem also to be intended, especially the restoration of Israel, the destruction of antichrist, and the prosperous state of the church, to which all the prophets bear witness. When Christ is come, and not till then, shall the kingdom be the Lord's in the full sense of the term. As none that exalt themselves against the Lord shall prosper, and all shall be brought down; so none that wait upon the Lord, and put their trust in him, shall ever be dismayed. Blessed be the Divine Saviour and Judge on Mount Zion! His word shall be a savour of life unto life unto numbers, while it judges and condemns obstinate unbelievers.

    God is closer then ever to His Children. In these dsys He will be walking close to whatever happens. You have chosen Him. He will take care of all our sorrows. He will make you Strong to walk boldly against this evil world. Walk in His Grace. Walk toward the Heavenly Light to your new Home in the Heavens is where you will be. Always remember you are Special to Him. In the end He will fight all the Evils that has hurt His Children. He always wins. For great Love can move mountains!!!

    3rd part: When they orchestrate events in the lives of people to cause them to stumble, sin, fall, get injured, sick suffer some trouble/calamity, they are entertained by the suffering, and would want the rest of society to believe that people are suffering because they are evil, or committed some sin/crime, and therefore are reaping the judgement. Well, the truth is that they transferred their corruption onto other people and watch them suffer what they should have been suffering. They hide behind the mask of Christianity but are wolves in sheep skin. So the twisted reference to Esau is the reference to those in the occult, sorcery/witchcraft who twist things/corrupt/pervert the Judgement of God/The Word of God to make it look like they are the blessed of God. That is why we are not to be envious of the wicked when they prosper.

    2nd Part:That Justice is Jesus who turns that twisted thing around, and makes straight the crooked, and turns things upside down and inside out, the right order of things. So, Jesus the first born Son of God, had to be the scapegoat, carrying the sins of the world, rejected and cast off to die in the wilderness. So, when we come to Christ our souls, birthright is restored when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, and everything we have need of comes to us, while the heathen, freemasons, kkk, nazis etc are draining us of our anointing so they can advance the white race with the soul portions of other race groups. So as mentioned above, it does not matter what color the skin is, or where they come from, satan, like cain, and like Jacob wants the first pick, and will move out of his way anyone or anything that is a threat. That is why people in the occult are so bent on killing people who have the light of God. They want to switch places with the people of God, so the people of God become the scapegoats, and they are the "star" of the show, with all the titles, degrees, money etc. It's all about dominion. They want to own, control & rule over everyone/thing to get praise, adoration,glory. Those in Christ say: I am nothing, I have nothing, I can do nothing. I abide in Christ and I become a Son of God, bear fruit and advance the Kingdom of God for the praise and Glory of God.

    Arissa, I didn't realize that your comments came in three parts. Just a further comment on 'Scapegoat' in reference to Jesus. Again, with the meaning of Scapegoat, I can understand your application to our Lord, for indeed our Sins were placed upon Him at the Cross, but the whole idea of scapegoat (in particular reference to sin bearing, in the OT), was that one goat was the sacrifice for the sins of the people & the second goat had their sins transferred onto its head & then that goat was set free to run into the field or forest, never to return or to be retrieved back into the flock (Lev 16:5-22).

    In the case of Jesus' Sacrifice, the Lamb of the OT is a foreshadow of what Jesus was appointed by His Father to accomplish. That is, instead of the priests sacrificing a spotless lamb from the flock to give temporal covering for sin, God provided His Lamb, pure & sinless, from (within) Himself (His Word) to fully pay for & redeem sinners forever: and this Sacrifice was the only One acceptable for full payment. So again, I wouldn't see Jesus' Sacrifice as Him being our Scapegoat in its full & logical sense, rather our Sacrifice.

    Let's go back to the Garden of Eden. God created Adam & Eve in the image of God. Then came serpent, &his seed past on down from Adam to us, so that we are no longer made in the image of God.From the time of serpent came Cain, the firstborn. Cain murdered 2nd born, Abel. But, because of the blessing of the first-born, the male child that opens womb must be consecrated to the Lord, God did not strike Cain down, but placed a mark on him. Fast forward, Jacob's mother does not want Esau to get blessing of first-born son, but Jacob, so Jacob tricks his father &steals the blessing for the first-born son. Jacob pays a price for it, & then later makes covenant with God, gets his name changed to Israel, &his sons come under his umbrella.We don't really know what evil Esau did other than going after "foreign" women. Esau gets a bad name. Due to Jacob's sin he, like a scapegoat had to run off into the wilderness looking for Laban. God blessed Esau as the first-born anyway, he didn't need Jacob's spoil. So, it's a bit twisted. Usually the one whose sin is transferred onto the scapegoat lives at ease and remains in the household, while the scapegoat is cast out to die in the wilderness. But here we have Jacob who committed the crime, and had to flee for his life. It's a bit twisted.So fast forward again to 2020. The heathen/pagans/freemasons/ nazis/kkk/white supremacists are hiding behind the mark of Cain, as if they are the descendants of Cain. Whether they are first-born or not, from Europe, USA or Timbuktu, it does not matter. The fact is they've perverted the word of God to fool the people of God. So, like wolves in sheep skin they hide behind Christianity, Judaism, Islam etc pretending to be children of God. They"mark" the people of God, after tricking/deceiving/pulling the wool over our eyes, enslave/exploit, rob us of our inheritance/birthright/blessing through sorcery/ witchcraft/soul tying & transferring/redirecting the flow of blessing to others. So justice must come!

    Arissa, that was an interesting read & also about those who hide "behind the mark of Cain".

    Just the matter of "scapegoat": as you know the meaning of that word is "a person (or, group) made to bear the blame for others or to suffer in their place". I can see how you interpret it this way, but I question whether Jacob was made a scapegoat & still enjoyed peace. I would not connect the meaning of Scapegoat to the situation described here. I don't think Jacob was a scapegoat: he did wrong in stealing his brother's blessing & therefore was advised by his mother to 'make a run for it', but Esau himself did foolishly, in selling his birthright for a some pottage in the first place. I don't see that either of these brothers were guiltless & so there was no transference of sin onto another. As well, Esau didn't do too badly himself, as he married & raised a large family & army & of course settled in Edom, becoming the father of the Edomites. Of course, all this was in fulfilment of God's Word to Rebekah in Gen 25:23.

    Gen 4:15: "...therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him". We don't know what type of mark this was, but most likely, "the LORD marked out Cain...", i.e. set Cain aside for Divine protection from his enemies, just as believers have been marked out with the indwelling Holy Spirit & His Seal upon them. So if any of these people you mentioned (KKK, Freemasons, Nazis, etc.) hide behind Cain's mark, that is of private interpretation, but it is certain, as you say, that all of these do hide behind the cloak of Christianity, & in so doing, not only bring the Name of Jesus into discredit & disgrace, but deceive our govts. & nominal Christians alike of their relevance & position in society. They (as we ourselves), have to stand before our Great Judge.

    To Chris:Thanks for reading and for feedback. I don't think you quite get what I meant.

    I did not mean that Jacob was a scapegoat, but rather in the twisted version of the idea, he had to leave his home to go find his uncle so he would be "safe" from Esau.

    It's part of freemason corruption to twist things, to twist the Word of God.



    So, as you explained so nicely the meaning of Scapegoat, you see in the story that it is a bit twisted. It's a bit too complicated for me to put into easy words for someone to understand. It's how the occult works- so it becomes distorted, and unclear, but only in Christ can the wisdom,understanding, knowledge, & discernment be given so one can see things as they are, and not how they appear to be.

    The scapegoat idea in our day is when the "sins"/filth/persona of one person is dumped onto someone else who is being exploited for their "anointing",talents, ideas, energy etc. such that the person being used as the scapegoat is the recipient of the negative energy that comes from the person who is being masked behind the persona of the "scapegoat". The person who has been exploited is falsely accused, and cast away- sent away, kicked out, given the boot, excommunicated, locked up/incarcerated as white supremacists have done to people of color for years. So, the idea of the scapegoat is not the same as in the Old Testament context, but a twisted version of it.

    I know I'm still not being clear.

    It's too early to be thinking this and trying to explain it.
