The great and terrible God such statements of profound reverence and faith are all but forgotten in this generation where it seems man is control via technology, smarts, and strength. We so easily forget how great and how terrible our God really is. Let us guard this faith and press forward with the hope of the gospel.

Nehemiah griefs over his destroyed city and he gets the desire to rebuiled the fallen wall he seeks for forgiveness from GOD he repents for his sins and the sins of all Isralites. He realises that its the unholiness that has made them to be scattered and i think thats the best thing we should learn to ask for forgiveness first to GOD and to stay a clean way of life

verse 5 reminds us that God always keeps his covenants unlike us who make promises to God when we are in trouble but as soon as he delivers us, we forget all about our pledge to Him.

chap.1:9 where it states that even if jews are cast out into outer-most ends of heaven, the Lord will bring them back. It has been on my mind for a couple of days. Is it possible if they 're sending a non-return couple to Mars, maybe its not such an impossibility. I 've been pondering that.

Nehemiah is one of the character which every Christians should emulate or copy. By this, in our self group wherever we find ourselves, let our life express God glory by making peace, determine to work and make a difference for God. Also we must watch and pray for our nation just like Nehemiah did. May God help us to have a purposeful heart to build for God with our strength and resources.

I think Nehemiah 's prayer should be our nations prayer. Let us turn back to God who has blessed this great nation. Amen

Nehemiah took on the burden of his nation and sought the Lord. When he heard his ppl were in a bad state he did not rejoice or ignore it, though he had favor in the king palace as cupbearer

"O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God " how terrible is our God? the bible says God 's word is a two edged sword, no wonder the psalmist said God works in mysterious ways and no man can fathom his ways.

About two weeks ago I was listening to a well known man who I will not disclose here, however he said; We should become Nehemiah Christians, and so I want to study Nehemiah which I am familiar with his name. My thoughts after reading the first chapter of Nehemiah is this: Nehemiah was a God fearing man, and knew what God wanted for his people. I noticed he included himself in the prayer concerning sin, and needing forgiveness and deliverance. He reminded The Lord God of Heaven of his mercy if his people would turn back repent, and serve The God of Heaven, and how he would gather them from across the Heavens where they were scattered.I need to read again and see how the Lord will speak to me concerning being like a Nehemiah Christian. I am still reminded of the Scripture 2 Chronicles 7:14

Nehemiah did five things after he received the report about destructions of Jerusalem. He was sober and sat down with repentance heart, he wept for their sins, he mourned with contrite heart, feeling regret and sorrow for days for Israelites's sins and their offenses against God. Nehemiah also denied himself of pleasure of food by fasting which also was for days and he prayed seeking for forgiveness of the nation of Israel. Isaiah 66 verse 2b says "But this the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word." Believers in Christ, all people alike should do these five things in seeking God's mercy upon our nation for restoration, healing and blessings. God is looking for a contrite heart and humble spirit. The question is, will you pray for this nation like Nehemiah?. It was him alone that pray for Jerusalem at that time, me and you can pray for our nation, homes, schools and body of Christ in like manner. God said, He will look on us and restore, heal and safe us. The question is what did you with bad news you heard about this nation, homes, schools and about things happening in the body of Christ. Complacency have taken over. Let us take up the task to be concerned with the situation of our nation, schools and homes; Amos 6:1 and Isaiah 32:11, let us meditate prayerfully on these bible verses and pray for Holy Spirit to ignite our prayer life to pray for our nation this year 2014 and henceforth.

Qayhuriah but even so we do the wrong thing because we think it is for the right reason. We live in a world where all men are afflicted (if) doesnt fit; GOD has enabled us.
  • Qayhuriah on Nehemiah 1 - 10 years ago
it's my responsibility to lift the other from the afflictions one is undergoing if GOD has enabled me.

This book is believed to be about a man Nehemiah and his love for God. Pay attention to what you read here; this is a book about the lengths that men will go to, in building walls and too separate ourselves from those whose opinion may differ from mine. This is an endless and hopeless endeavor to have God all to myself. This is what Satan wants to have God all to himself. Remember Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. Nehemiahs love for God is unquestionable; yet Nehemiah doesnt understand what true love for God is when compared to Satan. Satan is the embodiment of evil the Father of all lies (Satan came also among them) because in him is the perfection of Fear, Love, and Respect for God. So until we as men understand that it is our differences that make us whole in God we can never truly know what Love is.
Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
1 John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
1 John 4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also
This was Johns understanding Christ Jesus Doctrine.

Who will rise up like Nehemiah ,leaving behind all his status and comfort zone for the sake of God's people? At this time and age we are engaged in our selfish deeds forsaking God's work.if we sincerely pray to Him,turn away from our evil deeds, then He will restore our ruined cities, broken families, diseased bodies and many more just like Jerusalem was restored.we serve the same God of Nehemiah Who never changes.
  • Zacharia on Nehemiah 1 - 10 years ago
nehemiah heard&see the need then he took a step so is for us to see the need of this generation or in church, family&take a step to change it as nehemiah
  • James A. Williams on Nehemiah 1:7 - 10 years ago
This is one of the great failings of the church today. There is no real preaching about repentance coming from the pulpit today. The way to true blessing and prosperity is to obey God. To Obey God the first time is better than seeking grace after the deed is done. Grace is not devine slack for people to sin with. This is a prayer of true repentance. God give us men that will preach like this once again.

Nehemiah has a burden to serve his maker, God.
  • Nzondelelo on Nehemiah 1 - 11 years ago
The book of Nehemiah is relevant for all times. The resurrection of our Country from the "Ashes of Apartheid" requires men and women who are willing to do self introspection and request divine intervention in healing and building our Nation. The way ahead is long and we must first call to Almighty to show us the road less travelled where all people and races will hearken to a call. Come let us build, for the walls of our Country are fallen, leaders are corrupt, women and children are raped, drugs are order of the day. How long before we acknowledge our guilt and contravening of the commandments of Alfa and Omega.

When our hearts are touched and burdened like Nehemiah, and we don't know what to do to help, we can pray as he did. The Lord will open a way if it is his will and we are willing to step out of our comfort zone. Nehemiah risked things to admit his sorrow to the King, if the King didn't like his response he could have been killed. It's also interesting to note that in the worlds eyes Nehemiah had reached the top of the tree. The most honoured and trustworthy person was the wine taster, but God had a greater purpose for his life. Nehemiah was willing to leave the comfort of the palace to meet the needs of his suffering people even though he risked his own life and endured discomfort to do so, he was full of faith to do it because he knew God's calling was better. Jesus, burden the readers heart with what you have for them to do and may they be willing; let the gift of faith and the joy of your grace sustain them and give them victory!
