Notice that two people and two demons submitted to the Lord. The centurion is an example of the power of faith and humility. Jesus had no certain place to live but didn't allow that to hinder him. Purity, light, and holiness is to touch someone and they are liberate. The heavenly Fathers will is top priority that even burying the earthly father is task for others. Jesus was peaceful when evicted.

    Matthew 8 vs 15
When Jesus touch Peter's mother hand ..this reveal ed to me that. Jesus anointing when he spoke the word to fever to leave. That's all it took for the fever to flee because he once carried our sickness and diseases and overcame ALL of them. And Peter's mother recovered and went by her business..Thank you Jesus we overcome in him because his name is above everything!!!

  • Paul on Matthew 8 - 8 years ago
This can be one interpretation but not the only one. This means the ancestor saints of God in the Catholic Church and their following WILL be cast out of the kingdom of God. This is because of their rebellion against Jesus Christ and the promises GOD made to the Jews of Israel for them at the end of the ages. God WILL judge replacement theology and antisemitism by the Catholic heresy of ages past.
  • Preston on Matthew 8:20 - 8 years ago
I think he is saying that human beings are subject to the impermanence of life. every where that we may lay our head is no longer there, we set our mind to something and then our mind moves to something else, we are constantly wandering. But this also means that unlike the animals, we can awaken to something deeper.

Perhaps there is still another understanding of verses 21 and 22. Based on verse 12, the followers of Jesus, the children of the kingdom, the disciples, will be cast into outer darkness which means they will eventually die. Just being a disciple does not grant immortal life in this existence. The physical body can and will perish causing weeping by loved ones. When Jesus said in verse 22, follow me, that is to attain spiritual immortality. When he said let the dead bury the dead it may have been granting the disciple permission to put his father in the grave as the physical body is always on its journey to the grave.

I would like to know why in Mathews gospel,he mentions two men, and in Mark 5:2 and Luke 8:27, they mention only one man that was possessed. Every commentary I have read so far only speculates why this is. The event that took place is consistent, but the number of men is inconsistent. There has to be a reason for this, with facts to back it up, not someone speculating what could have happened. Could someone tell me where I could find this information or if you know the answer, please tell me and could you tell me where you found your information.
  • THOMAS on Matthew 8 - 9 years ago
What this verse means is to let those that are spiritually dead attend to their own affairs that they thought were more important than following Jesus.

  • Gerry G on Matthew 8 - 9 years ago
About verse 22 This verse is telling us that God shall be the priority of all things in the world. When Christ called you you must forget your world priorities. When Christ said that Let the dead bury their dead ' he meant that all men everybody during that time were all sinners and nobody will be save. That was the reason why Christ came on earth - to save the world by explaining God 's commandments. He said to the concerned disciple that let his relatives who were all sinners, thereby be dead bury his father. And he. as he was called by Christ was surely be saved. This is the example of Christ to us of God 's commandment number one - Love God above all. Seek the kingdom of heaven first, and everything will provide to us what we are wanting in life here on earth and beyond.

  • Mike D on Matthew 8:22 - 9 years ago
In this verse Jesus is responding to a man who is waiting for his father to die and then he would have sufficient funds to follow from the money gained through the inheritance. Jesus is saying when I call you follow me and I will provide. A verse that comes to mind is Psalms 37:25 Many people intend on serving Christ, when I get out of High School, or College, or when the kids grow up then it 's when I retire. No excuses.
  • Mikee D on Matthew 8:20 - 9 years ago
Here we see Jesus responding to a religious man who, if taken in context, was caught up in the moment. The first part of this chapter we see Jesus doing numerous miracles. No doubt this man was in the crowds excited about the miracles but not the Savior. John 2:24 25 show Jesus and his ability to see the heart. Jesus also is showing the way of the Christian is difficult. We are to count the cost. Jesus said, pick up you cross and follow me. Preach that in the church today and see who 's missing the next Sunday.
  • OLIVIA MCINTOSH on Matthew 8 - 9 years ago
I LOVE EVERY VERSE OF THE BIBLE... IT IS SO INSPIRATIONAL AND IT HELPS ME DAILY. THANK YOU JESUS
  • Mike D on Matthew 8:12 - 9 years ago
Israel was God 's chosen nation and to say that a Roman gentile would be in heaven and a Jew wouldn 't must have been a shock to those in the crowd. They were the physical heirs to the kingdom and they missed it by eighteen inches. Salvation will only come to men like the centurion who understand their spiritual poverty: Lord I 'm not worthy to have you come under my roof! Matt5:3 On the other hand those who think they can make heaven by a their works will fall short. In Romans 10:3 it states they were ignorant of God 's righteousness and tried to establish their own. When a man crosses this line he begins a standard which he himself can keep and he turns a deaf ear to the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God and now becomes his own God.
  • Mike Dorwart on Matthew 8:10 - 9 years ago
This is a amazing statement coming from the lips of Jesus. We see Jesus in his humanity surprised at the response of a Roman centurion. In John 2:25 we se that Jesus had the ability to see the hearts of men, also in John 1:47 48 we see Jesus revealing to Nathanael facts about a man he had never personally met. This would be the God man.
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Matthew 8 - 9 years ago
Hello Mike: John 17: 17 "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth ". So do I understand that you do not believe that Jesus calmed the sea? Do you know of any human man that calmed the sea? I believe that God calmed the sea. God is the only one that can control the waters on this Earth. Why do you think the bow rainbow appears in the sky? This is a reminder for God not to destroy this earth with water, Genesis 9. In the end, the word of God is true.
