In this particular chapter Jesus said the lamp of the body is the eye... I believe that he is teaching us that whatever is your focus is your guide.. And if money or anything other than the will of God is your guide then you are walking in darkness.. Which display a life of confusion and not peace..........

i bet everyone who visits this site knows of the "late great christopher hitchens " who used to say take no thought for the morrow meant don 't plan for tomorrow, for clothing, housing, money, ur childrens education etc. the true interpretation of this verse is if u worry about tomorrow u are wasting time and losing the present.so live one day at a time focus on the present and be successful the gifts of the world money housing etc will come to you naturally then,i think most people would agree that 's a better code to live by than constantly worrying about the future and failing in the present and thereby losing the future
  • Bishop Chirandu on Matthew 6:33 - 9 years ago
Its all about ranking priorities according to importance. Making a scale of preference . Number 1 priority is seeking God 's kingdom and His righteousness. Being saturated by His word and loving Him with all heart will pave way for other needs physically. Formular for an open door seeking God 's kingdom righteousness open door for material needs.

Mammon properly defined is worldly wealth. When we serve God he will ensure that all our needs are supplied. When we do our own thing we have to supply our own needs. Remember, what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet lose his own soul.
  • MockingBird on Matthew 6:24 - 9 years ago
We are going to serve something. The love of money is the root of all evil. Money is not evil we need money to get by on. The love of the money is the evil. Money is the primary goal for the love of it at what you think it can buy you. Money answereth all things and it will get you up on the ladder in this world. When the money runs out so will your friends . You will love the one and count the other as little as nothing !!!
  • Olabode on Matthew 6:24 - 9 years ago
Mammon in this context means 'money ' that is, we cannot serve money and God at the same time. Is either we serve money forget about God or serve God forget about money. But, i will advice you to serve God, he is the giver of all things.
  • Ron on Matthew 6:23 - 9 years ago
Jesus was speaking of spiritual vision. If we keep our attention eye single upon Jesus, the Word Joh 1 1 and 14 , then all that we will be filled with is the light of His Word. Likewise, an evil eye is simply when we allow our thoughts to be anything less than single upon Jesus.
  • Nita on Matthew 6:10 - 9 years ago
I once heard a sermon on the "in earth " the pastor expounded on our human beings being created from the 'earth ' . So when JESUS said 'Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done "IN EARTH " He was talking or elaborating about you and me and everyone else who accepts Him as their Savior and LORD, that His will be done in us. It made so much sense to me then, and even more now that I have grown up in His grace. May His will continue to be in me, "in earth. "
  • JEFFREY on Matthew 6:1 - 9 years ago
LIVE IN ME JESUS IS THE BEST WAY TO EXPLAIN MATTHEW 6 1 TO SHOW LOVE TO ALL OF GOD 'S CHILDREN GOOD OR BAD.FOR GOD LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON THAT ALL WHO BELIEVE IN HIM SHALL HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE. JOHN 3 16
  • Betty on Matthew 6 - 9 years ago
Verse 32 Says this what the gentiles seek. Who is Jesus speaking to.
  • Eugene Crawford on Matthew 6:5 - 9 years ago
The instruction here is by Christ, who always prayed in secret private place not to be seen of men He did often bless things openly, not to be confused with praying as they were never the same.. We also by study find that not the content of the prayer was a secret, but the act of praying was alone, not to be seen of men. In the instruction doctrine it is very clear that by refuseing to do so we cannot expect to be rewarded.. So! For opening meetings of any kind a blessing is in order not prayer ..

when the bible talks of the kingdom of God in matt 6 33,i believe it talks of the rulership of God in our lives. He rules us through his word which are the principles of His kingdom.now before doing anything of our own,we should first know how it is supposed to be done in the kingdom of God through His word.now after seeking to know His will we are able to do it in his righteousness.righteousness simply means 'right ' so we are able to know His will and to do it the right way.now in every principle of God there is a promise and the moment we do it right automatically comes the blessings of God upon us just to fulfil His promises on us.so the easiar way of acquiring Gods blessings is by first knowing His principles, doing them rightly, and that is used as a key to unlock our doors of blessings.we will not require to look for material things,it will only require us to obey God in His word.i.e malach 3 10.and again paul advises timothy in 1st timothy 4 7 10 that, train yourself in godliness for it is of value in every way,as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. yes, because we obey God by living according to his set standards of His kingdom,we will live the best lives here on earth and afterwards we are given eternal life.the thing is,we become lovers of the word of God,we obey it from our hearts, and God will forever reign in us!
