Matthew Chapter 24 Discussion

OK, Ronald, but having read your reply I see it deserves or even requires an important clarification not only for you, but for everyone's knowledge here, as follow:

I highlight your point and I must consider it very important to "have a heart of love towards others as brothers and sisters" as you said in your reply. But it is important to highlight also this desirable behavior only exists and happens when the Truth is spoken, GOD is the Truth; Then, when someone speaks out having a heart of love as Peter in Matthew 16:22-23(take a look), that kind of "love" manifestation actually is a stumbling block, and it creates a deadly environment, as can be seen in Genesis 3:1&5.

That said, it is essential to discern the spirit(s) as JESUS discerned in- Matthew 16:22-23- , in order not to fall into the Devil's trap.

Be careful or then get ready

On the other hand, I don't bellit people, neither I feel superior, as you suggest in your reply, and who Judges is the Word of GOD, not me, the Word is GOD, understand? By the way, the Word of GOD is quick -the Word is GOD- , and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged Sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a DISCERNER of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we must give an account.

By the way, my Lord JESUS left very clear, saying: "out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, false witness, blasphemies, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts: These are the things which defile a man- Matthew 15:19-20

    1 Corinthians 6:2-3

2 Do ye not know that the saints shall Judge the world?

3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? (angels of the Churches)

    The Word is GOD, self-executing.

To comment the first sentence of your post-part 2-, be sure that what matters and prevails is the Word of GOD, the Word is GOD- John 1:1, self-executing, understand?

What does the Word of GOD say?

    2Thessalonians 2:3-6 and 9-12

    3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Your thinking is from a human perspective, a stumblingblock, not from GOD's perspective. The verbiage your spirit manifested in your reply is good for nothing.

The one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth, the one who comes from above is above all- John 3:31 combined with Ephesians 1:3, among other Scriptures.

Be careful of then get ready

    Ronald Whittemore

Firstly, I dind't understand reading your reply-part 1- why you have started it running away from the main focus of my post, I did not write anything about crucifixion and resurrection of JESUS, so, what you wrote has nothing to do with Matthew 24.

Your spirit tried to justify this undesirable behavior mentioning Acts 1:6-7. But the worst is that you surreptitiously said that "cannot see-the disciples- ASKING JESUS for a SIGN of His second coming, the wording of Matt. 24:3:

Now, now, then you confess you BELIEVE NOT in the Holy Scriptures, in what is written in the Book of the Lord- Matthew 24:3-4KJV:

-3...the disciples came unto JESUS privately, literally saying,"Tell us...what shall be the SIGN of THY COMING, and of the END the WORLD?"

-4 JESUS answered and said unto the disciples(AND TO ME TOO),Take heed that no man deceive you. As you can see, you did not deceive me with your words, actually it is impossible you deceive me.

In your third sentence you confess that years ago was like a dog studing end-time prophecies, and reading Matthew 4 "the words looked like they were 20 times larger it was like they were jumping off the page" , I must say i don't believe in cunningly devised fables.

You said "that a warning we need to take to heart, your studies changed from then on you still can say you have much to learn", ok in fact you "have much to learn" as you said, you have lamp but it already went out then your spirit tries to feed you with chaff and tares according to your reply.

My Lord JESUS left very very clear, saying: Matthew 12:35-37KJV

35 ... an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

36But I say unto you,That every IDLE WORD that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the Day of Judgment(that is the seventh and last Day,or seventh and last millennium).

37For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

The Word is GOD- John 1:1,self-executing.Take care or get ready

    Hey Oseas,

    Part 1

Scripture is clear the crucifixion and resurrection were hidden from the disciples. They were devastated and undecided on what to do when Jesus rose from the dead as the Scripture tells us. Jesus' first coming was for the lost sheep of Israel only, the mystery had not been revealed it was hidden from Satan. All were looking for the Messiah to deliver them from Rome and set up the kingdom when He first came.

The disciples as we see in Acts 1:6-7 After His resurrection the disciples asked Him "wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel"? With this, I cannot see them asking Jesus for a sign of His second coming, the wording of Matt. 24:3 is the completion of this age, they had on their minds, setting up the kingdom not the end of the world.

Years ago, I was deep in the end-time prophecies, and I got to the point where I was like a dog chasing its tail. I put those studies up and I opened the Bible and was just reading, and I came to those words you have as 4 Take heed that no man deceive you. When I got to those words, they looked like they were 20 times larger it was like they were jumping off the page.

That is a warning we need to take to heart, my studies changed from then on I still can say I have much to learn. "Many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ, and shall deceive many". This has been going on since Jesus ascended to heaven, the Scriptures have a few but there were many. Revolts were started by those saying they were the Messiah and would deliver them from Rome and there will be false prophets until Jesus returns.

    See part two.
  • Ronald Whittemore - In Reply on Matthew 24 - 5 months ago
    Oseas,

    Part two

A beast and false prophet are coming but not claiming to be Christ, 2 Thess. 2:4 he "will exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped". This will be a worldwide deception that people of all religions will be deceived.

Some of Matt. 24 is for us today but much of it was for the disciples. History recorded many of the things Jesus said were happening, wars between Jews and Syrians and others. There was not only sedition and civil war throughout Judea but likewise in Italy: Otho and Vitellius contending for the empire. Earthquakes in Rome, Pompeii, Lycus Valley, cities of Pergamum, Laodicea, and Colosse. And the Bible tells of the famine in Jerusalem and other parts of the world.

Bad times are coming that we need to be ready for, we just need to keep in mind this fleshly body is not what is going to be saved. "Here is the patience and the faith of the saints" Rev. 13:9-10. I know we have different understandings; I could say more but I will leave it here.

    God bless,

The disciples showed JESUS the buildings of the Temple.(Oh how great, admirable, were the stones of the Temple!)JESUS said:See ye not all these things?verily I say unto you,There shall not be left here ONE stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

Jesus left His disciples disappointed with His answer, evidently.

What JESUS prophesied LITERALLY was fulfilled, the Temple was destroyed in 70AD,and Israel was banned from their land and scattered around the world for around 1878 years, from year 70AD to 1948AD,more than 100K died under the Romans's attack.

Israel was punished severely from year 70AD until 1948AD, they suffered severe and great punishments in LITERAL fulfillment of Deuteronomy 28:15-68, so 53 verses of severe chastisements and curses.Take a look. The WORD IS GOD,self executing.

After JESUS went to the Mount of Olives, the disciples privately asked Him two important things:

1-What shall be the sign of thy coming?

2-and of the END of the world?(the current Devil's world)

The testimomy of JESUS is the Spirit of prophecy. He LISTED several events linked(1st)to His coming;(2nd)to the END of this current Devil's world.

JESUS LISTED SEVERAL EVENTS, as follow: Matthew 24:4-8:

4-Take heed that no man deceive you;(first concerns of JESUS).

    5- Many shall come in my name,saying,I am Christ;and shall deceive many;

(Soon will manifest the Beast of the earth who has two horns like a lamb, actually a false lamb,a false messiah, AN IMPOSTOR:- John 5:v.43 combined with Revelation 13:v.11-18)

6-And ye shall hear of WARS and RUMOURS of WARS;see that ye be not troubled:for all these things must come to pass, but the END is not yet.

7-NATION shall rise against NATION,and kingdom against kingdom(G7,and G20,EU,UNO, among others Entities shall be DISSOLVED from now on?)

    -there shall be famines;

    -and pestilences;

    -and earthquakes in divers places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

The WORST is yet to come as is written in Matt.24:15-25

    Hi Jaell,

Just a few things, I am sorry you feel you have been lied to, there are different interpretations out there. If we study Matt. 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 together it helps.

I have found when studying the Bible, we should not start with a preconceived idea, it is easy to see Scriptures that fit a picture we have painted in our mind rather than letting the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit reveal the true meaning.

First, Jesus's death and resurrection were hidden from them, Luke 18:31-34. Even after he was crucified, they were distraught and did not understand the fact that he was killed. John 16:16-20 and we have Luke 24:4-6. Not knowing Jesus was going to die would they be asking Jesus about His second coming?

Is all of Matthew 24 about the end time, many combined it with other prophecies to create a picture of the end time. Some of it is obviously about Jesus's second coming but much of it was to prepare them for what they were to endure up to the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. False prophets we see there were many before 70 AD, Acts 21:36-38 Acts 8:9 and others. If we look at history there were wars, earthquakes, and famine, Acts 7:11 and Acts 11:28.

Many put Matt. 24:15 and Mark 13:14 at the end time with an antichrist, should we not consider what Luke wrote about the same thing, Luke 21:20 that history has recorded?

One other thing why would Jesus say to pray their flee would not be on a Sabbath day? Today would not be a problem with the transportation we have. Back then the gates of Jerusalem would be locked and would be hard to get out and it would take days to get clear, with a pace of 2.5 mph.

I am with you, we sleep in the grave until resurrection the first of those who are chosen and faithful, Rev. 17:14 at Jesus's second coming and the second, the rest of the dead at the white throne judgment/the sheep and the goats and those whose names are not in the book of life is cast into the lake of fire, Rev. 20:15.

    God bless,

You seem to have had a good wake up call and I'm so glad for you . Despite no evidence of this , many people still believe that we go to heaven or hell after we physically die . I am not one of those people . I believe that we will remain dead until Christ returns and ressurects and judges us . Stick to your Bible , put in the time and effort with it so you really know what it does and doesn't say , it's good to come on here but make sure that you read your Bible much more than you read this site :) . May God bless your efforts to draw closer to Him .

I have a question or maybe it is a comment with a question mark. Hoping someone may be able to either affirm my interpretation of Mat 24 or shed a different understanding. As I read this scripture, I am understanding that Jesus is telling us the steps as they will happen to His returning and that even though no one except The Father knows the time we are to be ever watchful. Not fall for false prophets, false christ. AND....that the Rapture (removal of the faithful) does NOT happen before but, AFTER Tribulation. I am finding that by reading scripture myself instead of depending on the church that I have been lied to all my life, we all have- by false teachers. Satan goes through these churches, religions that are not of God and misleads us into believing everything will be fine. Relax. Go to sleep. Someone else will watch for you. You still have time to sin a little. I am angry at how gullible I have been. They lie saying "they are in a better place now", when someone dies. Not unless the ground is a better place because the Bible plainly says the dead know nothing, are as if asleep, until Jesus comes back to gather all, living and dead, that have been and were faithful. ??
  • GIGI - In Reply on Matthew 24 - 1 year ago
True, Don, true. We are to stay watchful, be prepared as the virgins with oil in their lamps, increase in faith and endure in faithfulness until the end, whether that be natural death, martyrdom, or being alive when Jesus does return. We are to be prayerful, diligent in our service for the Lord for the sake of others, live exemplary lives before others for the glory of God and to reflect the character of Jesus in our godly living.

Our calling is to be representatives of our Lord in this world with a willingness to suffer, as He suffered so greatly for us, taking the wrath of God for our sin upon Himself on the cross. Our sufferings are light in comparison to what He endured. But none the same, they will try our faith and cause us pain and troubles. The glory that lies ahead for us is beyond what we can imagine. So we keep our eye on the prize of the upward calling of Christ; to the inheritance kept for us in heaven; to the full redemption of our body, soul, and spirit; to hear "Well done, good and faithful servant." And ultimately, to see our Savior face to face in all of His glory!

I believe it means they will literally pass away. 2 Peter 3:6-7, the first time the earth perished it was by water, but the heavens and earth will be destroyed by fire. 2 Peter 3:10 says it again, "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up." But...we'll have a new heaven and a new earth, undefiled.
  • Nacol1900 - In Reply on Matthew 24 - 1 year ago
Hiya Leska....I think that the new heaven and new earth is just symbolic language of that New heart and New spirit that God wants to give us....The gift of the H.G....In Isaiah 66:22..It says as the new heaven and the new earth shall remain so shall thy seed and name remain b/f me....Which is the Seed of the Sower that will result in Christ being formed in us....Which is the H.G. his Name sake....As Jesus said the kingdom of God is gonna be with in you...And David said beautiful for situation the joy of the whole world....Its beautiful for situation simply b/c its gonna be situated in our hearts and Minds....With in us as Jesus said

.......But i don't think we are gonna see a literal New earth...or New Heaven....There is absolutely nothin wrong with this BEAUTIFUL earth or heaven....Its only mankinds hearts and minds that needs to be replaced....Infact in Rev. 11:15...The Kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our lord and his Christ and he will reign for ever and ever....And He says he wd destroy them that destroy the earth....I think that New Earth and New Heaven is just the result of the new birth of that incorruptible seed etc...The living Word....When Peter said no more seas i think that is no more seas of humanity that have not been washed in the blood of the lamb....I will stain all my raiment.....With the blood of that 2 nd Adam....Behold the lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world...ok Gbu

    (Part 2)

    IG,

He says to give your money to the exchangers, and then at my coming, I should have received mine own with interest. That is what usury means, with interest.

Here is what I believe to be the moral of the story in Matthew 25:28-30:

God has left the Jews with the greatest commission that He could ever give. He left His word. The Jews should be out preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to whole world. But instead, Paul says in Romans Chapters 9 through 11 that the Gentiles have been grafted in. The Jews rejected their Messiah. So that's why we were brought in, and we are now preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

But it says, so that they can be jealous because we have their Messiah. And eventually, at His second coming, all the Jews that are alive will be saved. And so basically what He is saying is, I left you with a commission, with an assignment. What did you do with it? I dug a hole and buried it. You will be cast in to outer darkness. That is hell.
  • Jesse - In Reply on Matthew 24 - 1 year ago
    IG,

That is an interesting way of looking at it. Please allow me to share my thoughts with you on this parable. I notice that these three servants were each given talents (money), one five talents, another two talents, and the third, one talent. You might already know this, but a talent was a lot of money. It is equal to 6,000 drachmas. I know that might not mean anything, but 6,000 drachmas, which is 20 years wages, it equals 1 TALENTA.

In our money, one talent would be worth $600,000. So, we are going to deal with somebody that gave back 10 talents. So now we've got a $6 million investment here. That is a lot of money.

We see in Matthew 25:18 that it says he that had received one went and digged in the earth and hid his lord's money. As you know, he is the only one who buried what was given to him. So, the one who had one talent, he comes up to the Lord, and he says I knew you that you are a hard man. And here is what are called Modal Participles in the Greek.

This is what He means by a hard man. He says, you reap where you haven't sown. I mean, you don't even put seed in the ground, and you expect something to be there? You are a hard man!

And you gather where thou hast not strawed. Now the word strawed is a good word, isn't it? It means to scatter. It is the word DIASPORA. You gather together where you haven't even scattered anything. That is a hard man!

Matthew 25:25 tells us that this man was afraid. He hid the talent in the earth, and then later comes back with it and says "here you go, here's your talent back!" He didn't lose it, right? I would have said you are fired, but the Lord had some harsher words in Verses 26 and 27.

I mean if you know He is a hard guy, you better get out there and do something with it, right? You don't go hide it and say well, He is a hard man. Yeah, well guess what, the hard man is coming back, and he wants to talk to you.

I need a little more space so I will send a part 2.
  • Free - In Reply on Matthew 24 - 1 year ago
Dear IG Totally agree with you, when I think about this I think the example here is a bit unfair. After all, we know that God is righteous. And when we know that Jesus just spoke the way He did, it was Not for everyone to understand. If we compare this with the virgins, the parable is like this ill think: the First had oil in the lamps and got a little extra considering the oil they had bought, (souls) ill think. .

Jesus says to us come and buy gold from Me. Revelation 3:18 Now we know this that the gold we buy is the gateway to the kingdom of God. For eternity. The others who have not settled with lamp oil or with interest. Is not Fit for Gods Kingdom.

It would be nice if more ppl here on the web have some thoughts about this. He died for all, but not evrybody is called. Because they are against Him. Dont want to belive in Him. Ohh i wish that i have bought some gold and white cloth from Lord Jesus.

God bless us all and give us wisdom and understanding in His word. Love u all in Christ.

The parable of the talents has always bothered me. I view the third servant who buried the talents as one who is perhaps unskilled in increasing his own wealth--let alone that of a harsh taskmaster whom he fears (I know we are not supposed to be fearful). But I think this servant was at least intimidated by the owner and may have possessed the Godly quality of meekness. There seems to be no punishment for the owner who appears to have been a bully (we have all had those in our experience). Maybe there is more to this parable than appears, upon deeper thought. Yes, we are to trust and obey and have faith; yet from childhood I have not quite understood the harsh punishment for the servant rather than the owner.

Jesus loves each and every one of us, he died on the cross to set us all free from sin bondage he wants us all to make it to heaven with him and spend eternity with him, his will is not for us to perish out of this world because of disobedience of his words and instructions that he left here for us all to follow, but instead we are all guilty of being a slave to the sin nature which stems from a negative and evil nature that wars against GOD Almighty the devil himself we all have to be careful of, because he comes to cause us all to do the total opposite of our lord and saviors will for each and every one of our lives, i will continue to pray for all of our strength in christ Jesus, to save us all from going to hell with a devil that don't care about any one of our well being, may GOD keep and bless his children in Jesus name amen

Not sure if my commentary on that chapter helps. It is simply those who are martyred at that time; they don't yet have physical bodies to stand on the sea of glass; but they remain until all the martyrs designated to die in that way join them. God has a set order for the Resurrection; and the firstfruits raptured into heaven. Generally; it appears that the church comes next followed by the 144,000 being translated around the midpoint of the Tribulation and the rest of the saints risen sometime right before or around the second coming of Christ. This can be a trickly subject as to precise timing.

I would certainly think that the Hebrews 11 cloud of witnesses include those who are already present spiritually with the Lord (to be absent from the body is present with the Lord). ( 2 Cor. 5:6). Spirits of just men ( Heb. 12:23) made perfect is another example.

I try to give as much scriptural base as possible to comments; rather than wild speculation. Still; there is something to be said to waiting on the Lord to reveal what He will about the Book of Revelation. These days will see a closer parallel between those who are on the side of the enemy with those who are of the Lord so that even the elect would be deceived IF IT WERE POSSIBLE ( Matt. 24:24). Again; as my commentary mentioned by the sixth seal there will be no more atheists. The wrath of God and of His Son will be known but it won't do men who are unregenerate any good. I only say this out of necessity; if the Lord wants to show you these things; it will be for the edification of the sleeping church; to wake them up. The truth won't win any popularity contests unlike today's endless "prophets" who want people to believe the party will keep going on. May you be as Jeremiah with "fire in his bones" ( Jeremiah 20:9). There are a few fearlessly proclaiming the Gospel in LOVE; but also in TRUTH. I believe some roles for women are different from men; He will reveal this to you in His time.

Two women together --- two men together. Go out and preach this gospel to all the world.

    Marisa,

It is a great comfort knowing that Jesus is with us and on our side of what lies ahead for mankind. We can rest in His power and care for us. This does not mean that we will not have trials nor persecution. He has stated that such will come our way. But we can be assured that He will bring us into the life to come where we will be eternally safe, blessed, and loved by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. How good it is to be saved! How gracious is our God to bend low to rescue us from sin and evil. How merciful is our God to forgive us our sins and give us eternal life instead of eternal death!

God bless you today, Marisa. It is good to hear from you on this forum.

    "knows no man" ( Mt. 24:36) =

There are some precise specifics GOD has not revealed.

    (1) We must learn (v.32a), and know (v.32b; 33b) that CHRIST will return.

    (2) GOD The FATHER simply has not revealed the precise time CHRIST will return. This unknown prohibits man's tendency to calculate and predict the exact time JESUS CHRIST will return.

    (3) This unknown must prompt Christians' motivation to perpetually watch and always prepare for that event. Compare Mark 13:33:

"But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in Heaven, neither The SON, but The FATHER."

Notice Mark's interesting addition of the expression "neither The SON", which is unique to Mark. Does this contradict the Doctrine of JESUS' DIVINE Attribute of Omniscience? Not so. Although "equal with GOD" ( Php. 2:6), LORD JESUS' humanity, particularly "of no reputation, [in] the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men" ( Php. 2:7), appeared to restrict HIM somewhat by design. GOD never tires, sleeps, hungers, thirsts, or suffers as man does, yet JESUS CHRIST endured all these human experiences.

CHRIST's humanity seemed to limit HIS Attributes of DEITY to some degree. Otherwise, why would Doctor Luke proclaim,

"JESUS increased in Wisdom and Stature, and in Favor with GOD and man" (Lu. 2:52).

Does this "increasing" suggest GOD The FATHER temporarily limited HIS SON's Omniscience to some degree while in HIS humanity? Was The SON OF MAN oblivious to the storm while asleep in the boat during the storm ( Mt. 8:24; Mk. 4:38; Lu. 8:23)?

Evidently, the knowledge of "that Day and Hour" when LORD JESUS CHRIST will come again is limited solely to "MY FATHER only" (v.36), for as LORD JESUS proclaimed in another context, certain things was "not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of MY FATHER" ( Mt. 20:23).

2 Peter 3:1-18. I am so glad Peter endorsed the hard to understand Paul's epistles. Everything tied together with God. Glory and honor to God Almighty and the Lord Jesus Christ. We pray and hoping to save as many people. God gave us Paul to know the how to"s in these last days. Sadly, we still see a lot of lost people.

And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 2 Peter 1:2

Save your family first by being a good example. We will continue to pray for all.
