Matthew 18:22 (about forgiving others) Jesus saith unto him, "I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven."

Forgiving would be easy if one could FORGET the wrongs done to them.

When the wrongs done to someone play over and over in their heads, does that mean they haven't truly forgiven the offender??

I have friends who were raped. Maybe they did (try to) forgive their attacker, but do you really think they have ever forgotten for one second about that horrible incident? They never forget or get over it.

The minute one comes out of their mothers womb, everything said/not said, heard/ignored, done/didn't do, felt & thought is recorded in their memory for their entire life.

    Matthew 12:37 (Jesus speaking)

"For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned."

Our own memories will either condemn or excuse us.

I feel like I'm living in a nightmare. I've haven't committed any (worldly) sins that are worthy of death.

I just don't know where I stand. I know that God is no respecter of persons and the righteous always suffer at the hands of the wicked.

Romans 2:13 "For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified."

    What laws? Which ones?

I look online or even out my front door and see this world swirling down the toilet. People are so blind. They don't know Jesus and don't want to. In the East Asian countries, all those people are idol worshippers. I'm sure someone has preached the Gospel to them at one time but they choose to worship their idols. Should I feel sorry for these people?

You can't force the Gospel of Christ on people who don't want it. Which is why we're supposed to set a good example.

And, setting a "good example" can get you killed. Like the Prophets, Jesus & his Apostles.

I just feel bad, like I haven't DONE enough for the Lord. I'm a coward. Always have been.

Why should God/Jesus allow a slacker like me into Heaven?

Dear Susan, the greek text also says "two or three", and it means "two or more". Jesus said that if some believers (nomatter how many) gather in His name then He Himself is there among them. Maybe in Hebrew that Jesus was talking the expression is "two or three" and not "two or more". Different languages often use different expressions for the same meaning.

About the "Living Word" now, it is called living because it is alive in the sence that is works/acts in people's heart, it makes them repent and ask for God's forgiveness, it makes them want to change, it affects people and their lives and gives people the way to aquire eternal life. It is not just a theory, but it is a reality.

If indeed you believe that the Scriptures are, "The Living Word of God," which is what I was raised to believe, then it follows that things that are alive change. Nothing, absolutely nothing doesn't change. And all I know is that that verse originally said, "Where two or more "

I challenge you to inquire of your most devout Christian friends over the age of 30 to recite that verse from memory. And try to remain open. Not everything in this world can be explained away by what we've been led to believe. But thank you for your reply.

The Bible is correct and the hearsay is incorrect.

I personally don't believe that four or more disqualifies people from having Jesus in their midst. Technically 4 people would be only 2 groups of two, so it still fits the verse, and 5 people would be a group of 2+3 also fitting the verse. Maybe it was a quick way to say 2 or more, or maybe Jesus was demonstrating His mathmatical genius knowing that pretty much all group sizes thereafter can be computed with 2s and 3s and that these small groups are better for fellowship and prayer anyway.

    Matthew 18:20

"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

My wife & family sometimes use this verse when opening up a family prayer too.

    Matthew 18:19-20

"Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

I grew up in a fundamentalist Christian family. And I had to write much of Scripture from memory. Does anyone else remember it being, "Where two or MORE are gathered" rather than THREE? That isn't correct. It's two or MORE. I even prayed it aloud with a group of my friends holding hands when I was a small group leader in my church.

Marsha, This is such a wonderful blessing from our Lord. he has promised to be with us always. When we gather together and worship together or pray together, He joins us! Wow!The King of the universe bends low to commune with us!

We don't deserve Him or His interest in us. But He is a loving, generous, benevolent, good, faithful, forgiving, Savior and desires us to grow to be more and more like Him as we are about His business. Praise the Lord together!

Angels often have messages from God to humans . Please read Genesis Ch 21 V 1-21 , Judges Ch 6 V 11-26 , Judges Ch 13 V 1-23 , all of Zechariah and Luke Ch 1 V 1-38 . U will notice that when an Angel is given a message from God to deliver to a human , the Angel does it himself . Angels do not deligate , to a human , what God has told them to do . God has a message for u , it's a message of peace , love , mercy and reconciliation and u will find it in the Bible. So I would say that these so called clairvoyants r nothing more than tricksters who certainly want some thing from u . I would b avoiding them and reading my Bible .

  • Sean veasley - In Reply on Matthew 18 - 2 years ago
    What do you mean?

If you are speaking of the names we come up with on a individual bases. We hold dear to the incident that happen to us and tend to attach it to the name of God.

Example: Something told me not to go that way. Next thing you know it's an horrible accident or incident where you were heading. Now you are thanking God to the upmost.

Your now telling people your miracle and you say"Something" told me not to go that way. That something was God, now you have given God a new name or increased his name count without referencing Gods name. People assume when your telling your miracle you meant God when you say "something"told me not to go down there you meant God.

    Hope i answered your question

What is material, and what is spiritual? What's the difference? To the person of this world there's a question as to whether the Spirit exists anyway. Walking with Jesus in the Spirit in the now, moment by moment, is the way, His yoke is easy, His burden light, He will carry most of the load, and even let you ride in the cart.

I will tell you how. Accept Jesus as Savior from your sins in the body - which go against the Spirit until forgiven. Just walk with Him daily, do a daily verse first thing in the morning with a prayer like the Lord's prayer mixed with the 23d Psalm, or your favorite.

Moment by moment walking with Jesus, focusing on Him, and the good things in life, love, and those we treasure. Focus on loving God and others and serving them in whatever you do, for all jobs serve someone.

Once you are saved and live your life in the Spirit, you are living as unto the Lord, and whatever you do will prosper. Read Psalm 1. Keep it simple, moment by moment loving Jesus and others, turn anger away with a soft answer. Try to be at peace with all people because we don't fight flesh and blood.

And when you realize you can carry the Shield of Faith daily with ease because you can do all things through Christ Who strengthens you, you will know peace in your walk. Sure, you'll make mistakes, get back up, ask forgiveness, and keep walking. He is always there, faithful, tender, merciful, and loving you as the uniquely created soul you are, part of Himself. We are His children.

You can hear Jesus voice easy, read the New Testament, John is good because John was very close to Jesus, was a minister all his life outliving the other disciples and he loved Jesus.

I once attempted to take an offending member of a church to the elders , the offender did not acknowledge before two elders , so 1 elder tried to fix the problem there and it never really was resolved, but the leading elder felt it was taken care of and would not allow it to go before the church .

I could have been more persistent in getting it resolved , but I then learned that this church was not functioning as a church should . Some men rule , not the Holy Spirit . This was long ago .
  • Rob - In Reply on Matthew 18 - 3 years ago
Great question , if a brother sins against another brother by offense maybe a word or action . They need to be told of it by the offended one . If the offender will not listen then it should go before the church if he still refuses to except his responsibility before the church , then then 2 in agreement being what is needed for a true witness by God have authority to bind what ever they seem fit to bind . They have the mind of the Lord and are led by the Holy Spirit .

The problem today is trying to find a functioning church that's not got sin in it . And even two saints together led by the Holy Spirit . Really not so commonly found these days . Not just anyone can do this .

If the offending brother makes amends with the offended , those binding can release it .

It says in the bible Matthew 18.18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Can someone please give me an example of what things we can bind on earth, so that they shall be bound in heaven, and what things we can loose on earth, so they shall be loosed in heaven ?

    Many Thanks

    To ADAM

Must have been too busy and corrected a few typos. Sorry about that!

He that committeth sin of the devil; for the devil (your natural spirit) sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God, doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God ( 1 John 3:8,9).

The following is an excerpt from the Article 'What is Sin of the book 'A World Deceived'.

'Sin is not just an act such as prostitution , alcoholism, adultery or a drug addiction, as the spirit of this world has made you believe but is the fruit of every man, woman and child ( Romans 3:9; Galatians 3:22).

For the purpose of this article and to give mankind a better understanding of the title of this article, we would like to add the words 'abortion' and 'homosexuality' as another act.

Sin is often referred to in the Bible in the same context as Satan, and his servants are therefore also described as the servants of sin ( John 8:34). Sin is the natural state a person is born in and his/her whole being is sinful. It is the fruit of the natural body.

As such, every person is separated from the true and living God and under the power of Satan. Religion or any form of Baptism does not change that and is a form of self-transformation of the natural body. This is how Satan has transformed himself into an angel of light ( 2 Corinthians 11:14).

He (Christ) also informed them that they were not of God ( John 8:43-47). Remember now that they truly thought that they knew God and that they worshipped him in truth, but when He dwelt amongst them they crucified Him, as they could not believe His message of repentance ( 1 Corinthians 2:14) and did not like it that He convinced them that they were sinners and that they lived under the power of sin (Satan).

Seek, and ye shall find ( Matthew 7:7).

    In His Service.

    On MATTHEW 18:3

By nature every person is born in sin through the sinful seed of their natural fathers and conditioned therein ( 1 Peter 1:23). For that reason and in order to become a son of God, which are born of God, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God, a person must be 'Born Again' ( John 1:12,13; 3:3-7; 1 John 3:9; 5:4).

God is the judge over His Church and teaches us that you must be 'Born Again'. No believer and follower of the true Christ has ever made a claim that they are 'Born Again'. That is judging oneself and falsehood, as in truth they follow after an image of a false god and a false Christ ( Matthew 24:24; Mark 13:22; Gal. 4:8; Rev. 12:9). This is how Satan has transformed Himself into an angel of light ( 2 Cor. 11:13-15).

Only through 'True Repentance' will God be able to reveal Himself, and adopt you as His sons and daughters ( Rom. 8:15,23; 2 Cor.6:18; Gal. 4:5; Eph. 1:5; Hebr. 12:5; 1 John 3:1).

The word 'Repent' means a lot more than what people by nature have been conditioned to believe. It is the key principle of all the teachings of Jesus Christ and the axiom (basis) of the Word of God and a prerequisite and primary requirement for the salvation of mankind. It actually means the changing of spirits - to turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God ( Acts 26:18).

For a better understanding and the 'spiritual truth' of what it means to repent, and learn how and by whom mankind has been deceived ( Rev. 12:9), and what people must do to be reunited with the true and living God, we invite you to seek Him according to the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive ( John 14:17).

You need not that any man teach you ( Isaiah 54:13; 6:45; 1 John 2:27), It is only by revelation of God that you will come to know Christ ( Daniel 12:4,9; Amos 3:7; Matthew 16:17; Luke 2:26; Romans 16:25; 1 Cor. 2:10; Gal. 1:16; Eph. 3:3,5; Rev. 1:1). It is a narrow way that leadeth unto 'Life', and few there be that find it.
  • Carleton - In Reply on Matthew 18:20 - 3 years ago
The Holy Spirit by peace and witness in the soul is our continued guide to stay separate from returning to the condemnation- James 5:12. It is for this reason that a Christian must at one time know their born again time, before the Baptism of Holy Spirit in their heart/ soul and after, that way we can judge ourselves whether we be in the faith once delivered to the Saints by the steadfast peace. Without this peace which is the Holy Spirit in us, we may have returned to the unbelieving thief on the cross.

    HEBREWS 5

2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.

3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.

4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

    7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

    8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

    9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, YE HAVE NEED that one teach you AGAIN which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need OF MILK, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14 But STRONG MEAT belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses EXERCISED to DISCERN both good and evil.

    Comment:

If we're born again and Baptized by the HOLY SPIRIT; we are indwelt with Our Teacher. We DO have need to read the Bible and ask the Holy Spirit to teach us what we are reading.

We need to not forsake gathering together either. Sit under a Pastor. Note the scriptures. Study at home with THE HOLY SPIRIT. Gorge yourself on the Bible daily.

Read Commentaries too. Pray for the Meat.

I agree Mike. I've forgiven but I haven't forgot I never will but good has replaced much more in my life that I would have been given otherwise. One of my family members passed away not long ago and no one called me except for the one Uncle my dad's brother that I have so much respect for. He told me he had heard about it so I sent to that funeral and if I hadn't said hello to those church going relative's they wouldn't have ever spoken to me but I did the right thing. They thought she my mother passed away my life with be horrible hahaha little did they know. One can forgive but one can also stay away from those that cause them to stumble which is excatly what I've done. I'm so much better off. Now I have the Best friend's I could ever ask for. First time in my life I've been so happy an it's all because of Jesus no questions about it whatsoever at all. Best to you my friend

Here is another place in the Bible that supports not being a Christian island but instead, in humility supporting Jesus's bride the living church which is promised that the gates of hell will not prevail against her.

    Hebrews 13:1

    Let brotherly love continue.

From experience, the more the better!
