  • Sourabh Kumar on Matthew 17 - 5 years ago
It is a very good verse and it gave me hope at a time when My life is burdened with so many problems. I just hope it really goes that way for me and I am never unprotected. Coz I have like a 100 enemies both in person and in terms of challenges of the world. I just want to say sorry to God for the mistakes I made and I hope I will get a chance of make it upto him someday. Thanks to everyone and please pray for my well being. Cheers !!

As much there is to learn from this chapter, one small thing many miss: Jesus, the Creator, had power over all of creation.

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things consist. Colossians 1: 16-17

In verses 10 through13 we're told of the importance of John the Baptist to Jesus. Elijah was to proceed him. But according to Malachi 4 he wasn't supposed to die. And in doing so triggered a curse. And in Hosea 6 we're told Israel was to face a long term Leviticus 26 curse. These 3 sections of the bible are at the root of the fig tree parables. A winter for Israel followed by the fig tree leafs.

Verse 20~The disciples had faith, but Jesus was helping them to see that they needed a greater amount of faith.
  • Van on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
I look this verse up to get the comments of what people believe and teach others. I see that many believe it's referring to a demon and it just might be since its not clearly explained, but Jesus did respond with your unbelief . Remember also you only need a small amount of faith that's not hindered by unbelief to cast mountains. It's not clear but still the key to faith is non belief.
  • Wayne on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
John, what don't you understand about the fish and the coin? Nothing about the fish dying and selling the dead fish for a coin. Jesus simply says open the fish mouth, take out the, band pay the tax. Pretty clear cut .
  • Jeff Berry on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
Unlike the next chapter where Jesus uses an hyperbole to teach a truth (...if thy hand...offend thee) here He is speaking metaphorically. "If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed..." Do you have any "mountains" in your life? I do. And today I "say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place"!
  • A disciple on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
The disciples were first called Christians because they were of Christ, and were like Christ. They took every word He said as the absolute Rule for every aspect of their character and conduct. In this chapter we can much from what Jesus said and did. 1. There is an appropriate time for telling others the vision you have received. 2. Belief and holy trustworthiness go together. 3. Honor Authority.

    Comment*very good and inspiring

Vay; Thank you for speaking up! Nice to hear from you! YES! It is like the Sermon on the Mount, TOTALLY; and the Parable of the Sower, and the Wheat and the Tares, and the Wise and Foolish Virgins, and the Good and Faithful House Managers next to the One who went and hid his Lord's money. What's wrong with hypocrisy? Stage-playing, giving a misleading appearance meant to conceal one's true nature!
  • Vay on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
You're right about the "whole point"! It's like the Sermon on the Mount, isn't it, where we're to give our cloaks if our coat is taken (stolen), go the extra mile, forgive and love and pray for our enemies. Examine and find ourselves faultless before making our self-offering! When we don't obey these Christian lessons from Jesus' Mountain-top Sermon, we're still taught them but through trials.
  • John on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
    So be it
  • A disciple on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
John; Please read the story again; you seem to have missed it entirely. The whole point of the MIRACLE of letting Peter catch a fish with a coin in its mouth, the WHOLE POINT was for teaching us NOT to offend those who serve as His ministers in Government, but to give what they ask.
  • John on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
Jesus didn't work a miracle for paying taxes!he simply told Peter go fishing and when the fish dies when you open its mouth go sell it for money what ever you can get then come back and pay them to not offend them cause if they got mad as lost adults do! But its written and you still can't see what it means so easy to understand try fasting and praying you really wanna learn his words so simple..
  • A disciple on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
Tom; The Lord put a Tribute Coin in the fishes mouth for Peter to PAY; and He said to him, that although we are children and free, that we not offend them, we should pay whatever they demand. Public Servants are God's servants, ministering government to keep law and order on His behalf; and they are worthy of their hire! We need Government in all its services, and everyone needs to be paid!
  • Wayne on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
If it weren't for the Holy, Wonderful, Saving Son of God, where would all of us be? Who else is qualified to be beaten and spit on and rejected. Who else would give up everything, in Heaven, to die for us lowlife sinners? To make us children of God and qualify us to live in Paradise, in the Kingdom of God, FOREVER? Eyes off the world and directed fully, only, on the Lamb of God. Praise His Name!
  • Tom on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
Inverses 24-26 is Jesus saying we don't have to pay taxes? What about the verse of giving Ceasar what is Ceasars? I'm confused
  • Wayne on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
You are right, Lillian. And all who deny Christ is the Son of God are heretics and blasphemers, infidels. The Father , himself, states, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. HEAR YE HIM. If the Father says Jesus Christ is his Son, that's the way it is. No human being counsels God.
  • Lilian on Matthew 17 - 6 years ago
And the voice of our Abba Father "Behold this is my Beloved Son whom i will please Hear Ye him. Thank you Father for giving Jesus to us so that we all must have life in abundance. Thank you Jesus for the blood i will praise thee and worship you alone for you are worthy amen hallelujah

Faith comes from hearing the words of God and Faith is a gift from God. It is more important to meditate God's word day and night all the desires of thine heart will be added There's always a Healing in God's words it cleanses our body mind heart and soul for God's words are pure. Thanks to Jesus amen
  • Jacoba on Matthew 17 - 7 years ago
To increase your faith in God, study your Bible. Know who is talking, who they are talking to and in what period of time they were talking in. Change requires a mental change. God has provided the in His written word the things we need to do and think about. Galatians 5: 22 through 26. Strive for the faith once delivered. Jude 3.

Yes Lord! One of my favorite verses, of which I was thinking about just the other day. God is SO GOOD : !
  • Riikkaliina on Matthew 17 - 7 years ago
It tells me there's a power of light - God the allmighty. God can remove an obstacle from our lives and from my path. If I follow God's son Jesus Christ, I obey God. Then I have a seed of mustard. ... I can be happy.
  • Peter A. Okebukola on Matthew 17 - 7 years ago
May our lives be transfigured to salvation. God the father endorsed His Son on this mount as He did in River Jordan during Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist. God said "Hear ye Him". We must continue to hearken onto the words of Jesus and have unshakable faith in Him.
  • Eric on Matthew 17 - 7 years ago
    Mary,
Yes, there is a spirit of epilepsy. Your son would know more than anyone. Fast and pray for him to be delivered of this. Take the authority given to you by Christ Jesus and command this spirit to leave and he will be set free.
  • Mary on Matthew 17 - 7 years ago
Is Matthew 17:15, talking about someone that was having seizures?,also verse 21, my son is saying that he believes that fasting and praying is the only way to be released from having seizures..
  • James on Matthew 17 - 7 years ago
