Hi John! Yes that can be tough to get at first glance... The Lord is always loving and sympathetic of heart in all that He does.... The best commentary I have read is in the Desire of Ages, Chapter 43, Barriers Broken Down. You can google it. Online free book.

Hi brother Bruce, You said - "We who are Born-again can eat what-so-ever..." Do you mean to eat any creature? Irrespective of its effect on the body and subsequently the mind? The Lord characterized clean vs. unclean foods for a reason. On 1 Tim 4:4-5 - The issue the believers were having was in regards to foods sacrificed to idols. Not clean vs. unclean foods. Acts 15 21, 1 Cor 8, 10...etc
  • SaraS - In Reply on Matthew 15 - 4 years ago
Andrea, People try to make this chapter say Christ proclaimed all foods clean - but the chapter was not at all about food. It was about eating w unwashed hands and the pharisees making it a moral law breaking issue. Jesus pointed their attention to the fact that eating w unwashed hands does not corrupt a person, but rather evil thoughts, acts and words. Same w Peter's vision about the gentiles-

27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour

Verse 12~The Pharisees were offended because they knew that Jesus spoke the truth. They were incorrigible .

"Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind." In saying this, Jesus has revealed that each and every one of us is accountable first to God; and no amount of obstinate determination to follow ANY form or methodology may take the preeminence over His view of us; notwithstanding howsoever strongly one might protest!

Andrea: His Word says: every Creature of God is Good and nothing to be refused,if it be received with Thanksgiving:For it is Sanctified by The Word of God and Prayer. 1Timothy 4:4-6./ Oysters, clams, muscles, shrimp, lobster, any seafood. Cows, pigs, rabbits, muskrat, raccoon, squirrels, whatsoever, but always give Thanks for what you have

Andrea; If I may add here, the teaching of the Law in the eating of things designated clean and unclean; is in reference to our walk. "But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common." Acts 10 (esp. v28) confirms, The Kingdom of God IS NOT Meat and Drink..
  • Andrea McCallum on Matthew 15 - 6 years ago
    To Bruce.
Are you saying pork shrimp, lobsters etc are allowed as long as God's word is prayed over them?

Chad: We who are Born-again can eat what-so-ever: 1Timothy 4:4-5: every creature of God is good, nothing to be refused, if it be received with Thanksgiving: For it is Sanctified by The Word of God and Prayer.

People often misinterpret verses 1-20 by saying Yeshua allowed the consumption of pork, shellfish and other unclean animals. Yeshua rebuked the Pharisees only for their man made law (tradition) of washing hands which is not found anywhere in the law of Moses.

13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

let the righteous smite me it SHALL BE A KINDNESS let him reprove me its shall be an excellent oil. You want the brethren to rebuke or do you want chastening from the lord which can lead to sin unto death personally I want to be rebuked if its with scripture not with your philosophy
  • Manuelf324 on Matthew 15 - 6 years ago
What we forget as a bible believer is when we rebuke(not scorn which is different) its because we love that person not hate. Heres a verse most kjv bible believers avoid. Thous shalt not HATE THY BROTHER Thou shalt in any wise REBUKE thy neighbor suffer not sin upon him. If you love the brethren you rebuke them you obey God you rebuke them you dont they will get chastened along with you!

"And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?" It is no secret to anyone who reads the Bible that there are certain kinds of men who will be offended at the directness of the Lord's speech; especially when it exposes sin and hypocrisy. For the men who were chosen to be the Lord's anointed Sent Ones, the rebuke is accepted as a shaming, in order to push them to grow up and be better men.

When I was 18 I had had scoliosis for 2 yrs. I am 75 now. At 18 my left hip was 4 in. higher than my right; my spine was a backward 'S'. In June of '60 the Lord healed me, but I didn't know it was Him for 10 yrs. In '60 I had 'heard' there was a God; that was about it. I 'learned' that much in a mainstream church. So, Jesus does heal without OUR prayers, but I KNOW someone was praying for me.

Im just trying to help you understand the right meaning of Matthew15:26 NIV "It is not right to take the childrens(Jews) bread (Word of God)and toss it to their dogs." (Gentiles) 24:" I have only been sent to the lost sheep of Israel." He was trying to save HIS "lost sheep" first. When the woman gave her reply, jesus found favor in her and healed her daughter. God is good.

I had been lacking in my reading of Scripture, so I decided to start with Mathew and to study Jesus words anew. God is so awesome as the Holy Spirit refreshes the soul in reading the Word. I pray that more Christians will renew the love of the Truth of a new life for all eternity as he allows us every opportunity to do so. The Holy Spirit always shows you Truth in new and powerful ways.

Do not try so hard, but pray about the passage that worries you. Sometimes, we are not ready to understand and sometimes you have to take what is written by faith, until the time is right for you to understand. It is in God's time, not ours. Be kind to yourself and trust in our Lord.

verses 1-9 I believe what Jesus was warning to all churches is not to add any mans traditions to the teachings God's holy word.
