Wesley's Notes for Matthew 7:11

7:11 To them that ask him - But on this condition, that ye follow the example of his goodness, by doing to all as ye would they should do to you. For this is the law and the prophets - This is the sum of all, exactly answering #Mt 5:17|. The whole is comprised in one word, Imitate the God of love. Thus far proceeds the doctrinal part of the sermon. In the next verse begins the exhortation to practise it.

People's Bible Notes for Matthew 7:11

Mt 7:11 If ye then, being evil. Men who have the natural affection of parents, even though sinful men, will not do such things. Whoever believes that the term "Father", as applied to God, is more than a figure of speech, must believe in prayer. Give good gifts. Lu 11:13, in the parallel passage, says, instead of "good gifts", "the Holy Spirit", as though this is heaven's greatest blessing.

Judge not, that ye be not judged.
    2
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Give not which is holy unto the dogs Jesus said Be ye Holy for I am Holy I am the vine and you are the fruit. We are nothing without Jesus as our vine neither a good tree can never produce a good fruit where a corrupt tree will only produce evil fruits. God has given us life to choose to follow him for he is the only rock and my salvation in him there is no darkness I will praise you Jesus forever

"Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you." This verse has long been a favorite 'go to' saying about not speaking to those who show themselves unworthy and incapable of receiving the Word, because of their brutish and or Satanic nature. This goes with how the Lord warned in another place, to "Beware of men, for they will deliver you up.." But Read the whole portion in its context, and you'll see that the warning is used, not BECAUSE they are unfit to hear, so much as it is for us not to cause ourselves unnecessary hurt and danger BY HYPOCRISY. The precious and holy things we bear in our preaching and teaching, are known and read of all men alongside our character and behavior. Although in a very grave sense they "know not what they do " God has nevertheless given it to them to see the "City Lights which He has set on a hill " and demands that our witness be true and faithful, agreeing with the Spirit's convictions He has ordained and uses through us and our words.

Ruth (cont.); Just wanted to say, that I agree with you! I don't mean to 'nit pick' (and I wasn't 'finding fault' with what you wrote at all!); but I wanted to emphasize that the idea of one having to belong to a Church and subject himself without thinking, Is this right? is misleading, and a potentially terrible dangerous snare. Birds of a feather flock together. People flock to those they like!

IS NOT BAPTISM PART OF GODS WILL--PART OF THE GOSPEL--MATTHEW 7:21 NOT EVERYONE THAT SAITH UNTO ME LORD LORD SHALL ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN BUT HE THAT DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN *** 1 PETER 4:17 FOR THE TIME IS COME THAT JUDGEMENT MUST BEGIN AT THE HOUSE OF GOD AND IF IT FIRST BEGIN AT US WHAT SHALL THE END BE OF THEM THAT --OBEY NOT-- THE GOSPEL OF GOD

Nia; AMEN! Luke 6:26 "Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets." Mark 13:22 "For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect." They of the Truth hear Jesus' voice and follow HIM! A stranger they will not follow, but WILL FLEE from strangers! God proves us.
