Wesley's Notes for Matthew 6:22

6:22 The eye is the lamp of the body - And what the eye is to the body, the intention is to the soul. We may observe with what exact propriety our Lord places purity of intention between worldly desires and worldly cares, either of which directly tend to destroy. If thine eye be single - Singly fixed on God and heaven, thy whole soul will be full of holiness and happiness. If thine eye be evil - Not single, aiming at any thing else.

People's Bible Notes for Matthew 6:22

Mt 6:22,23 The light of the body is the eye. This is not an abrupt transition, but bears on the same subject. If one's eye is diseased, all he sees is wrong. So the mind, or conscience, is the light of the soul. If these be darkened, all is darkness; if these see aright, all is light.

Lent: As it is true that the New Test. doesn't set aside times or seasons to fast, it doesn't prohibit the church from fasting together, either. It is interesting that Jesus switches between singular "thou" to plural "ye" when talking about fasting: I think he is addressing the church, not just the individual. He isn't teaching absolute secrecy but rather a quiet attitude. Lent isn't bad or good.

Hi Jenny when taking about God it best to use Capital letters for He , Jesus so on when referring to Him it respectful and show Jesus is all powerful so confess and repent it to Jesus and change then all wrongs and it would be ok

Verse 33 shows that we need to put Jehovah God first in our lives. Material things have their place, but not first place.
