Wesley's Notes for Matthew 13:22

13:22 He that received the seed among the thorns, is he that heareth the word and considereth it - In spite of Satan and his agents: yea, hath root in himself is deeply convinced, and in a great measure inwardly changed; so that he will not draw back, even when tribulation or persecution ariseth. And yet even in him, together with the good seed, the thorns spring up, #Mt 13:7|. (perhaps unperceived at first) till they gradually choke it, destroy all its life and power, and it becometh unfruitful. Cares are thorns to the poor: wealth to the rich; the desire of other things to all. The deceitfulness of riches - Deceitful indeed! for they smile, and betray: kiss, and smite into hell. They put out the eyes, harden the heart, steal away all the life of God; fill the soul with pride, anger, love of the world; make men enemies to the whole cross of Christ! And all the while are eagerly desired, and vehemently pursued, even by those who believe there is a God!

Vs.19 says that they could not understand the word sewn by Jesus. The next 2 received it but fell aside. Only the 4th brought forth fruit. This chapter is about predestination Rom.8:29-30) It is God who gives the ability to receive and understand the word randomly established before He created the earth. Jesus told the Jewish leaders that they can't understand as they were not of God - destined

the kingdom of God and the kingdom of heaven are 1 and the same....jesus uses the kingdom of heaven in matt's. parable of the sower, but kingdom of God in mark and luke's parable of the sower, so they are 1 and the same, there is only 1 bridegroom and 1 bride and 1 God ....thus there can be only 1 kingdom

All the parables go together to make the whole message. The various aspects of how a man hears, and what he hears, and what determines his being either good or bad; is not at all something left to chance; (as if we should just accept everyone for what they are, or what they are confused about); but is entirely because of our own willingness and obedience to the Glad Tidings. We are accountable!

It basically means you can't change yourself or another person till they have matured. In unconsciousness we have accidentally gotten bad seeds within ourselves. When we ripen and gain maturity, only then may the bad be separated and only the good kept. So accept yourself and others unconditionally until you and them are matured and ready.

Hi Grace; You asked, "What is the difference between kingdom of God and kingdom of heaven?" I think the difference is simply in the words themselves, and not different things. What I mean is, that the kingdom of God; let's say, as opposed to the kingdoms of men; and the kingdom of heaven, as that which is high above all that we know just now as of the earth and this world: it is the world to come!
