Verses 7-15...the age old rivalry between "Commandment and Convenience". It is inconvenient, therefore, we "let it slide". Of course, the question is...Don't that suit God? Does letting it slide please God? Do we do things after God's way, or in a way we hope, we pray, we think, is God's way, for sake of convenience.

Verses 20-23~ Jesus showed that these wicked things that take place come out of a person's bad heart condition. We must be careful that we do not take in bad things through what we read, watch, and what we listen to.

What come out of a man Is what defines or defiles Him. This is why we need Jesus in our heart that he will rule our through and by the Holy Ghost, Amen.
  • Peter A. Okebukola on Mark 7 - 6 years ago
Jesus exposed the heart of man- so full of iniquities. From it "proceeds evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness". Only His precious Blood can give us a new heart. What we have today is people honouring Him with their lips, but their heart is far from Him. Salvation is the antidote.

The Bible says that ALL scripture is inspired of God. ( 2 Timothy 3:16) To say that an emperor wrote Matthew 28:19,20 is saying that 2 Timothy 3:16 is a lie. We know that Jesus and his disciples practiced and taught evangelizing.Remember the words at 2 Peter 1:20,21. Interpretation comes from God.

We need to make sure that we examine some of the traditions we hold dear and make sure we know why we are following them and not just because everyone is doing it.
  • BSP on Mark 7 - 7 years ago
Jesus way saying that many were just paying lip service to him. They didn't really have a clean heart in their worship.
  • Melissa Martinez on Mark 7 - 7 years ago
I think it is saying in verse 6 chapter 7 from the book of MARK that men can speak or say anything. But God knows all things and he knew that they didn't feel those ways in their hearts.as to go into verse 7 Jesus is saying how can it be that they worship him in vain, they are speaking of doctrines ,the commandments of men. They were ignoring the commandment of God and speaking their own belief.

Mark 7:14...23 has been used for eons to justify eating anything the Christian wants to. These passages DO NOT determine what the definition of what meat food is, this can only be found in Leviticus. Our LORD God YHWH defined for us what is meat food and what is an abomination to us. The Lord does not change and Jesus told us that he did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it, and he kept God's law perfectly. So now re-read these passages and apply the definition of food per Leviticus to them and you will find, this is saying nothing at all about what you can eat. Food has been defined long before in Leviticus. Please read and compare what I have said, let the Holy Spirit guide your thoughts, and remember why follow man's commandments when you have a set of perfect commandments from God!

What does it matter, as to what you or I think about anything spoken of in the Bible? Since the Bible is the Word of God, only what God says, actually matters. How can our mortal opinion carry any weight with God? Even the Bible (Gods word) is not just His opinion, but rather it is established fact! We can only understand the truth of Scripture, when God gives it to us, as progressive revelation

34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. Second Time in scripture that Jesus spoke in tongues. "That is" means being interpet.

Paul keep the commandments so why would say they not necessary?
  • Bozki on Mark 7 - 9 years ago
Tradition is one of the Pattern of this World, Paul Understand this that is why he said Do not conformed to the Pattern of this world but be Transform by the Renewing of your mind. Renewing means return back to the original mind setting, which is from the beginning We only listen and do what God Says.....It is high time for us now not to listen what others told about you, just only listen what God tells you...God Bless everyone.....

VERSE 6,7,8 ABOUT WORSHIP HERE JESUS TELLS THAT PEOPLE WILL WORSHIP GOD PHYSICALLY AND THEIR MIND WILL BE THINKING OF SOMETHING ELSE.IF YOU WORSHIP 'GOD THE ALMIGHTY ' CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH THEN YOU SHOULD DO THAT USING YOUR PHYSICAL BODY AND YOUR FULL MIND.THAT IS THE REASON WHY JESUS HAS TAUGHT US TO SHED ALL YOUR WORLDLY DESIRES SO THAT YOU COULD WORSHIP YOUR CREATOR FULLY.IF YOU HAVE ANY DESIRES OF THIS WORLD THEN YOUR MIND WILL BE THERE.WHILE PRAYING WHAT EVER YOU ASK 'GOD ' HE WILL GIVE YOU.ONCE YOU GET WHAT YOU DESIRE THEN YOU TEND TO FORGET 'GOD THE ALMIGHTY '
  • THOMAS.V.JOSE on Mark 7 - 9 years ago
VERSE 15,16 IT IS SAID THAT WHAT EVER COMES FROM A MAN ONLY CAN MAKE HIM UNCLEAN. THAT MEANS IT IS YOUR TAUGHT AND DEEDS THAT MAKE YOU UNCLEAN. IT IS CLEAR THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR TAUGHT NEITHER GOD NOR SATAN HAS ANY ROLE IN WHAT YOU THINK AND DO.YOU ARE THE CREATOR OF YOUR TAUGHT .GOD HAS GIVEN FULL FREEDOM TO YOU TO THINK AND ACT.HERE JESUS IS ALSO NOT FORCING OR COMPELLING ANYONE TO FOLLOW HIM. UNLIKE ANY OTHER RELIGION JESUS IS SAYING IF YOU NEED ETERNAL LIFE YOU SHOULD BE CLEAN IN YOUR TAUGHT AND DEEDS . JUST BY OFFERING PRAYERS AND SACRIFICE YOU WILL NOT SEE THE KINGDOM OF GOD.

Mark 7 34,35 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened 35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. Jesus didn 't pray for the sick, He commanded them to be healed. He was always prayed up so when people needed healing He said things like pick up your bed and walk, to the dead he said arise,to the paralize man He said pick up your bed and walk, to demons He said go, to death ears He said open. Take your authority over sickness and diseases in the Name of Jesus.

we our born with the old nature romans 5:12.if we become a Christian we have a new nature. saved are lost we all have the old nature and only the Lord knows who are truly saved. Satan means accuser of the brethren and devil means slander. when we live in the sprit we have the fruits of the spirit. Galatians 5:22-26. If we walk in the flesh Galatians 5:17-21 is the outcome. A Christian can sin but will be convicted and possible chastening of the Lord. Hebrews 12:3-8. Those who are without Christ in there heart have no real power to please Jesus, and only he knows who is Saved. Jesus said enter in at the narrow gate, because wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction and many people go there in . But few find the narrow gate. Ephesians 2:8,9.

To answer your questions Winson, I believe what Jesus is referring to is that anything we take in from the outside world (music, books, food, etc.) cannot defile our souls. Only that which we sow to others (blasphemy, cursing, fornication, murder, etc.) which comes from our HEART will difile our souls. As for Deuteronomy, remember that the old testament was the time of the law (ten comandments) while the new testemant is a time of grace. While we are still required by the law, we have the grace of God because it is not possible for anyone to live by the law.

Is there anyone who can explain what verses 18,19 are saying? Does verse 19 say we can eat anything we like? Then what Deuteronomy 14 talks about the unclean food that we are not supposed to eat?

Correction on remarks concerning anonymous about anti-swine friend. Genesis 9:3 is written under grace not under the law which does not really begin until Exodus 20:1.
  • Jay on Mark 7 - 11 years ago
    @Anonymous,
As on anti-swine friend, there are still many denominations and individuals that are still trying to please god by practicing Old Testament Jewish laws where they do not apply in the New Testament church age. This is what happens when you do not rightly divide the word of truth ( II Timothy 2:15). Jesus is always using a physical situation to illustrate a spiritual situation as he is doing here in Mark 7:15. The issues are of the heart (soul) not the stomach ( Proverbs 4:23; 23:26; 23:7). If a person does not want to eat certain foods for health reasons there is nothing biblical against that, but when a person eats or abstains from certain foods to please God spiritually that is Old Testament mentality, not for the New Testament church Christian age ( I Timothy 4:1-5), and Genesis 9:3 written under the law, not grace under. Meats for the belly and the belly for the meats it all comes out at the drought.
