Mark Chapter 14 Discussion

From what I can glean from the scriptures, Jesus, when his hour was getting close, he prayed in Mark 14:35 and other verses "take this cup from me". Do you know of other scripture where God might have talked to him about his "powerful resurrected blood" after his death and what effect that this blood, and being resurrected would have on him? I wonder if God talked to him about it. Maybe he didn't. I'm not sure. What do you think? Kathy

Whether or not you believe in God, this message is a "must-read"!

Throughout time, we can see how we have been strategically conditioned coming to this point where we are on the verge of a cashless society. Did you know that Jesus foretold of this event almost 2,000 years ago?

In the last book of the Bible, Revelation 13:16-18, we read,

"He (the false prophet who deceives many by his miracles-- Revelation 19:20) causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666."

Speaking to the last generation, this could only be speaking of a cashless society. Why's that? Revelation 13:17 states that we cannot buy or sell unless we receive the mark of the beast. If physical money was still in use, we could buy or sell with one another without receiving the mark. This would contradict scripture that states we need the mark to buy or sell!

These verses could not be referring to something purely spiritual as scripture references two physical locations (our right hand or forehead) stating the mark will be on one "OR" the other. If this mark was purely spiritual, it would indicate both places, or one--not one OR the other!

This is where it really starts to come together. It is amazing how accurate the Bible is concerning the implantable RFID microchip. This is information from a man named Carl Sanders who worked with a team of engineers to help develop this RFID chip:

"Carl Sanders sat in seventeen New World Order meetings with heads-of-state officials such as Henry Kissinger and Bob Gates of the C.I.A. to discuss plans on how to bring about this one-world system. The government commissioned Carl Sanders to design a microchip for iden

Thanks for your comment. I have no argument at all with your comment in any way. However, I think this "certain" young man has significance. Could it be that he is mentioned again in other places and again not identified? There's nothing in my belief that hinges on this one word of this one scripture and I have no desire to argue or disagree with anyone. I'm just curious and have always wondered about this "certain young man" in this passage. He was following Jesus in the literal sense and the other young men laid hold on him, but not anyone else. The disciples were there and they did not lay hold on them. What was unique or what did this one young man do that caused them to attempt to lay hold on him? Where did he flee to? Just curious.

This story is about Jesus Christ, my Saviour. I have no desire to get away from that - just curious in that there's nothing at all insignificant in the scriptures.

The young man realized he had received another Jesus !

It's why Christ would say ! Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

    A great falling away occurs!

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day (the 2nd advent) shall not come, except there come a falling away (apostasy) first. No fly by's

It is in Mark 14:51 not in Luke.

He was probably Mark the Evangelist himself who at that time was a teenager. It seems he followed Jesus and His apostles at the garden of Gethsemane secretly, without them knowing that, and then he run away.when Jesus was arrested.
  • Luke - In Reply on Mark 14 - 1 year ago
This is symbolic for what's going to happen to rapture theorists who are, (those who are Christians that is) deceived into following the anti-christ , and worship him, when he arrives on the scene first with this fly away doctrine.

Once they realize they've worshiped the anti-christ knowing that all their good works are gone, they are naked and run away like the young man in Mark 14 did except in the end times x-christians will wish for mountains to fall on them.

The young man realized the soldiers were leading the Real Jesus, having worshiped another.

Who was the "certain young man" mentioned in Luke 14:51? Why was he differentiated from the other young men? Why did he run away? Is it possible that he is mentioned again in the scriptures?
  • Edgar Fuller on Mark 14 - 1 year ago
It was only Mark that Jesus spoke this to, so no one else of his disciples would have witnessed this.

    GiGi,

Here is what I have learned a while back about this incident of the cloth and the young man in Mark 14:51-52. This is only found in Mark's gospel, and it is a very interesting story. You won't find it in any other gospels except here, which tradition tells us this is probably John Mark. In Verse 51, you have this young man who was covered in a linen cloth. So he was covered, not naked, except for underneath the cloth. But he was not dressed in his normal clothing, only covered in this cloth.

So that would explain why when they went to grab him, the cloth would come off, and he would run away naked. And also, why he was naked underneath the cloth.

I say this because in the Greek text, when it talks about this linen cloth, it is something that you throw over yourself when you get out of bed. But what is he doing out there in the middle of the night with just a covering on, not his regular clothes, just something you throw on yourself when you are getting up out of bed?

Well, if indeed they went to Mary's home in Jerusalem to see if Jesus was eating the Passover and had been there, it would've woken up John Mark. We see in this chapter that it was in the middle of the night. And in a hurry, he threw something over himself (the linen cloth) to go out and find out what's going on. He followed them all the way over to the mountain. But it is interesting that Mark is the only one that mentions this, this young man who flees naked into the night.

It's just the narrative of what actually happened , the disciples who had been with Jesus in the garden were afraid and they ran away . I think , like Gigi , that this person who lost his garment was probably Mark , but we could be wrong of course .
  • GiGi - In Reply on Mark 14 - 1 year ago
    Dear Stephen,

this is an interesting verse about the young man who covered himself with a linen cloth because he was naked. When an attempt was made to cease him, he fled naked, leaving the cloth behind. I do not know why this was included, unless the young man was the author, Mark, and included to indicate that he was an eye-witness to this event. Why he was naked is unknown, but he was in the Garden of Gethsemane at night for a reason we are not told.

I'm interested to find out more, so am looking forward to more replies.
  • MARK 14:50 message - In Reply on Mark 14 - 1 year ago
Mere hours before, Jesus tells the disciples that they will soon abandon Him. He quotes Zechariah 13:7: "Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered." The disciples vehemently deny that they would do such a thing ( Mark 14:31). To Jesus, who knows what will happen, it's already a certainty. His prophecy isn't to shame the disciples, but to tell them that after they scatter, they are to meet up again in Galilee ( Mark 14:28).

It's common for us to fear our sin. We may do something ambiguous and worry whether it's against God's will. Or we may make a vow that we will not commit a specific sin and despair when we inevitably fail. Or we, try to justify what we want to do to settle in our own minds that it is not sin. There are many ways in which we try to convince ourselves that what we do isn't sin. But those machinations are filled with pride and selfishness. We will sin. Every believer sins. We don't stop sinning when we become Christians. Jesus told the disciples they would scatter, and they do. It doesn't surprise God when we sin. The whole point of Jesus' coming is to cover those sins.

We do need to avoid sin ( 1 Corinthians 10:31). We do need to consider whether the action we're considering is in God's will. But it's also sin to concentrate on sin so much we lose focus on God. Instead of dwelling on whether something was a sin or if the thing we want to do is a sin, we need to remember that after it all, Jesus promises to forgive and restore us. We sin far more than we imagine, and if we accept Him, He forgives every sin. When we learn to rest in that forgiveness, obeying becomes a lot easier. And, ironically, we're less likely to sin in the first place.

Mishael: find strength in the Lords supper. He washes our feet. We wash each other's. Walk in forgiveness, with everyone. Be the earth body of Jesus, who would bless those good, and wretched. Pray as would.

Good Question! It is difficult to know one verse without knowing the context of the passage. Lord Jesus made it in reference to the Communion Supper He instituted with the apostles.

Basically He was saying that He would sup with us again when we are with Him again in Heaven. The communion was given to us to remember the works that Jesus did for us while here on Earth.

One does not get saved in participating in this event as some believe. Jesus gave it as an ordinance to help us remember and celebrate Him.

When the Lord returns for us, we won't celebrate with just wine and bread. We will celebrate with Him in Heaven in a great feast. I pray this helps.

To boil it down even further, we are to love Him, learn of Him, praise Him, and follow Him. Go out and make disciples, baptizing them as Matthew 28: 18-20 tells us too. So when He comes back, we will be found faithful.

Powerful passage, reveals the omniscience of the Lord knowing all that will come to pass.

v 51, 52 shows us in our spiritual state when we are clothed in our own selves and not in Christ Jesus. We are "naked" and have no power against the flesh. We have no testimony no witness for His sake. Even Peter follows afar off. V54

Have you anointed Jesus in your heart as the woman did. She did it in a public forum, before all. I need to pray continually for the grace of God that I stand fast and not deny Him in my daily living amongst men.

It is very easy to praise the Lord and worship Him amongst the believers in church and fellowship, but I need to be faithful even amongst the unbelievers and deniers of the faith.

Though there are many areas of the faith, doctrines, that we may not agree on; let us pray for each other and lift each other up to the throne of grace. Let us pray even for the people God has placed over us in positions of authority. ( Romans 13: 1-5, 1 Tim 2:1-6; 2 Peter 3:9)

Let's lift up the current administration, President Biden, in Christ Name. Those who sit on the bench of the supreme court and of course our 100 senators and 441 (or so) house representatives. (435 stated elected, and 6 from the territories and common wealth of the USA). Sorry for the civics lesson. Pray for your own local state leaders.

God bless all. And lest we forget, pray for the peace in Jerusalem. May we be found faithful as we await the coming of the Lord Jesus in the clouds. 1 These 4: 11- 18

  • Chris - In Reply on Mark 14 - 3 years ago
Mark chapter 14 gives us the account of Jesus with His disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane. While Jesus was praying there & the disciples asleep, Jesus awakens them as suddenly Judas Iscariot comes in with a band of armed men sent by the Jewish religious leaders to arrest Jesus. The disciples deserted Jesus & fled but this one unknown young man was also there. There has been speculation on who he was, as he didn't come with the band of men, nor was he a disciple of Jesus called to be in the garden to pray. It is guessed that he may have either been in the area & became inquisitive to the commotion going on, or may have been temporarily residing there to do some work. Whoever he was, he didn't flee with the others but when he also was being accused of being one of the eleven disciples, ran for his life naked, leaving his loin cloth behind.

Mark 14-51:52 is a metaphor. The cloth represents Jesus, the young man represents Jesus's disciples, the act of the young man running away abandoning the cloth represents the disciples running away abandoning Jesus.

That hour above, the 'Passover' GOD given memorial was about to take place and at this same time above 99.99 of the world did not know Jesus 'The LAMB Of GOD' was prepared by GOD, to be offered by GOD as a 'Sacrificial Lamb' for the sinful human race, thereby a 'New Testament' at the supper above is entered into between GOD sinful mankind Salvation through the shed blood of Jesus .

Jesus is God! He came in the "form" of a man...He is the High Priest according to the order of Melchizadek with no beginning and no end, selah. He is seated at the right hand of the father, and has rested from his work. He cleansed the temple and tore the curtain by which we have access...to come boldly.
  • Teri on Mark 14 - 4 years ago
because of the HS we now have the power to resist sin, which we could not do before we were saved. We need to call on Him daily for the ability to resist temptation. He always provides a way of escape, but we need to recognize it.

do not get caught up with the world, it's hard not to,let the politicians worry about themselves, speak truth, and pray for the will of God be done in all things,Christ died for all sinners, and the only job is to tell them the good news, of what Christ did for us, to repent, and have faith in the Lord in all things, God is always first as Jesus taught us and if they hear not pray for them

Verse 1-9 we see Jesus has not taken his eyes off HIS mission (redeem the sinful human race from sin), also note exactly who was the main players plotting to kill Jesus. In 2019 the new players are plotting and destroying everything Jesus's has died

Our Lord came to save us from our sins. He is our redeemer, We must have faith in him and in the Gospel he came to teach about the kingdom of our father God. He was a king with all his glory, yet he came to earth as a humble man so that through him we may become partakers of his richly kingdom. We have to accept that we are sinners, Jesus will deliver us. He is the way, the truth, and the life.

Why do we have to be so evil. He did not commit any crime but we are evil that we accuse him of doing things he did not do.
