John the Baptist was the voice in the wilderness making straight and smooth the way of the Lord. Elijah has already come and was received without honor as Jesus Christ was despised and rejected as a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. He was esteemed smitten of God and afflicted. Now is apostasy. John did no miracle but everything he said was true. An adulterous generation seeks after signs.

A prophet who indeed turn the faith of the children back to that of their fathers down thru the ages to perfect the endtime bride ready for the wedding ceremony of Jesus Christ. As Revelation 10:7 says, he will reveal ALL the mysteries down thru the church ages.

the prophecy of Elijah means exactly this, when it is said, that Elijah will have the power to make every high mountain low and every crooked path straight, you need to picture a inpassible mountain terrain with high mountains and a crooked path passing through it,with deep valleys and rough terrain, truly a treacherous path for one to walk and navigate through,so picture Elijah raising the deep

beloved, the Elijah of Malachi indeed was John the Baptist, Jesus said this he did not hint on any other occurance in the future: folks are reading too much into a fulfilled scripture. the whole law and the prophets of old testament found their fulfillment in Christ, his birth, ministry, passion, death, burial and resurrection the rest is what he does through the holy ghost. one needs to take the scriptures in their context, in their time frame. for all the plan of GOD IS ACCOMPLISHED IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST...AMEN.

  • Martin on Malachi 4:5 - 9 years ago
Elijah has come and people have missed him just like they missed Elijah of Malachi 3 John the Baptist . By the way, Elijah of Malachi 4 is not John the Baptist as many people think. Other scriptures to support that are Luke 17 :30, Revelation 10 :7 e.t.c. And he is turning the hearts of children back to the heart of the fathers i.e.he is restoring the world back to the apostolic faith. John the Baptist returned hearts of the fathers to the children Luke 1:17

Implanting a Godly legacy into my 8 yr old son, Peyton, is the most wonderful thing I can do for him. A pleasing aroma to God. Not land, not money, not the inheritance of a family business. The minor prophets of the Bible describe what has gradually occurred in human society. God will scrape humanity from the face of the earth and start over as described in the book of Revelation. But God has no concept of time. Thousands of years have passed, but the great day of the Lord gets closer each day. Jesus said few will make it to paradise. Many will be thrown into the abyss. It 's tough following Jesus with so many distractions in this sinful world. I encourage each christian who reads this to study Matthew 5 6 and hear the instruction given to us from our God who became a man so he could love us up close. Enjoy the the grace Jesus died to give us freely so we may come and live with our loving God in his many mansions.

  • Robert Mccoy on Malachi 4 - 9 years ago
In chapter 4 of Malachi the Elijah that is spoken of is the actual Elijah of the old testament. If we read the book of Revelation we will see it referring to Elijah literally coming back to turn the hearts of the fathers and the sons before that great and dreadful day of the Lord.

Malachi 4 5,6 Many people may confuse by this verse when they see in the bible. Because people lost the belief, ' 'Still prophets can come ' '. hence confusion takes palace about the coming of Elijah. But, if bible promises one thing, it willsurely be fulfilled. No doubt at all. It has to happen. see, it states two things, 1.Turning the hearts of fathers to children 2.Turning the hearts of children to fathers First one fulfilled in the life of John the Baptist by turning the hearts of Jews fathers to the age of Jesus and disciples children But, where was the second action fulfilled? It waits for it 's fulfillment. It has to fulfil before the great and dreadful day of the Lord Malachi 4 5 Elijah of this age will turn our children hearts to the hearts of disciples fathers . He should be here at this age to turn our hearts and I want to this thing, HE CAME, finished his work and turned our hearts to disciples He is Bro.William Branham Obey to the Word, follow the Message of this hour brought by this Elijah and Ready for coming of God God bless you

Malachi 4 particularly 5 and 6 talks of an Elijah who will forerun the second coming of Christ. This may not be the case of The Elijah of Mal three for the things that will happen in Mal 4,5 and 6 did not take place in the time of John the Baptist. This messenger will have the spirit of Elijah to blast out the ezebelic world and all denominationalism and organisations of his time.

Praise the Name of The Lord who will reign forever. His Word is a light and life for those who believed in Him. God is the rewarder to those who put his trust in Him. He is a God of miracles. Let us all give honor and glorify the author and perfector of our faith. To God be the Glory. Amen and Amen.

  • Timothy Wayne George on Malachi 4:2 - 10 years ago
The Sun of righteousness is a metaphor for Son of God. Just as the sun gives light, heat, and life, so the Son of God is light to all that believe in Him, and gives life to our souls. Christ when He was born, shined light into a dark world, and gave heat to Mary as she looked upon the babe in the manger. Christ gives healing to all who will by faith receive Him as their Savior, and will shine light into their soul, and banish the darkness of sin away. This healing continues even as we wait for Him to descend from heaven with the shout come up hither!!! to take His bride to heaven. May the Lord bless you, and keep you is my prayer till He comes again.
  • Jason on Malachi 4:2 - 10 years ago
yes, why sun instead of son?
  • Angel on Malachi 4 - 10 years ago
Nataleigh - another commentary explains it like this: The Sun of Righteousness is Jesus Christ and it is in reference to the millenial reign of Christ after the anti-christ has been done away with. In Jeremiah he references Jesus as our Righteousness and in other passages Jesus is referred to as our sunrise.

Gods desire has always been to provide righteousness to those who trust Him (e.g., Genesis 15:6). On some occasions, Gods people were said to be clothed in righteousness ( Job 29:14; Psalm 132:9; Isaiah 61:10), and here in Malachi 4:2 Gods people will see the Sun of Righteousness Himself rising over the world. Its a picture of the future millennial reign of Jesus Christ. The darkness of the Antichrists reign will vanish, and the light of God will take its place. Its a new day dawning; Gods people will revel in their freedom like gamboling calves leaping from their stalls ( Isaiah 65:17-25; Hosea 14:4-7; Amos 9:13-15; Zephaniah 3:19-20).

I hope this helps some. Good question though as it invokes one to research the phrase and hence we all learn from it.
  • Spleen on Malachi 4:2 - 10 years ago
No, its just a simile to help understand how important Jesus is to our connection to God. But of course there are plenty other attempts by them to blur the word. Unfortunatly for them, thats about all they can achieve.

Fathers responsibility is to be spiritual role models to their children in all sense, that they will grow up and share the same aspects with their own children in their growing up.

This comment is to the question of Proverbs 8:22. That is "wisdom" doing the talking. It is simply saying that the Lord possessed Wisdom.
