(continuing) Jesus used the same method in trying to pull some thinking and growth out of His own disciples; asking them questions, not because He didn't know what He was going to do, or even required a suggestion; but to prove them! John had been announcing and teaching and preaching the coming of the Lamb of God, and by the Spirit knew Him when he saw Him. But his disciples were not getting it!
It is sad how easily SO MANY are led away from sound understanding of Scripture, simply because they hear some Pastor saying it! In the actual Sacred Text, Jesus in no way indicates that John had somehow slipped into doubting; but rather praises him as greater AND MORE THAN A PROPHET! John was still faithfully trying to direct his disciples to Jesus, knowing that his time was coming to a close!
A beautiful chapter of fiery condemnation of the hard hearted and the tears of the supplicant, one distrusted the miricles which eyes have seen, the other weeps for joy that God has visited his people Israel, God's chosen, to whom Jesus was sent. How does it always seem to go together, that they who seek to be rich and secure after the wisdom and prudence of the world; that the same one who has attained a degree of this wealth and position "better than others" are so hard-hearted and shameful dull of understanding about the Supreme Greatness of Christ, and the tremendous work of God's power to reform a sinner into a holy and loving Saint!
If one has a stronger nature and resolves not to let himself fall into the popular sins of the day; he is blessed, true! But still he is debtor to God! Both the small and the great all must give account of the things done in their body. Now while the Pharisee wasn't a sinner like the woman was, he was nonetheless in God's view; and he should have known by his very religious occupation HOW to love!
What kind of status or position of "importance" in the Church or Community would exempt a man from "Love Thy Neighbor As Thyself?" or negates his own unfitness for the Presence of God? Jesus Christ came in the flesh to purchase us again to God by His blood: THAT'S OUR FITNESS FOR THE PRESENCE OF GOD! Money in the Bank and a bigger house in a nice area does not make you better than your neighbor!
"And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, See this woman? I entered into your house, you gave me no water for my feet: but she has washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head." Some really believe that their sins don't accrue much debt with the LORD and while showing outward gestures like inviting Jesus to eat at their house they're too busy finding fault to love.

God commands all men everywhere to repent and believe the Glad Tidings of Christ. Our salvation depends upon our being reconciled, AND a character and conduct in holiness and truth and righteousness.
MARQ: I agree with you about wine; but comparing poisons to wine isn't right. God made everything very good in the beginning; but men because of their hatred and hostility, wicked minds and proud hearts, love of evil and sin; have caused the whole creation to be out of course. Wine always was for a good thing, but men make it evil by drunkenness. That poison you mentioned is not to be touched!
Elizabeth, PLEASE show KJV-Only scripture that says, "Jesus never drank wine!" I'm 52 a pastors son who was taught it was a sin. I have never drank any form of alcoholic beverage or smoked anything (anti-drugs) Yet I can't preach it's a sin to drink, only a "Sin to be DRUNK" 2 different things. The very 1st miracle was water to WINE, would Jesus (you) make cocaine for others knowing it was a sin?
Elizabeth; You are mistaken about Jesus having never drunk wine. His first miracle at the commencement of His ministry was to turn water into wine. He said of Himself that He came eating and drinking, and was a friend of Publicans and sinners. If you make a promise to God about not drinking, we respect your will and try to support you. But you cannot say what is the business of another man's faith
I believe people need to read the KJV and not these other translations. The Bible states numerous times that alcohol is bad. Jesus DID NOT DRINK WINE PERIOD!! HE WAS FREE FROM ALL SINS!! Some people need to read the truth and stop sugar coating!! The Bible states to NEITHER ADD TO OR TAKE AWAY FROM THE WORD OF GOD!! So stop making EXCUSES to get drunk.
The "law" which the Pharisees follow is not God's law, but the law of their own proud and unbelieving hearts. Proud, because they will NOT give a thing to humble themselves before other men; and unbelieving because if they really did believe ANY of the Scriptures which they read "all the time," then they would recognize and welcome all who were of God; but they don't recognize or welcome Jesus.
Pharisees and lawyers would never call Jesus Son of God because that is blasphemy in their laws, so they call him Son of man. They are critical of everything Jesus and John the Baptist do attempting to make it sound evil when it is not. The Pharisees consider themselves wise and justify themselves in their self made wisdom which Jesus equates with childish thinking.
Jesus in action! He has power to heal body and soul. He forgave the sins of the woman. He can forgive our sins even if they are as red as scarlet, He will wash us clean as snow. Only confess and belief.
(18-23) John the Baptist was filled mightily with the Holy Ghost from his mother's womb; and he never had any kind of crisis of doubting, like some teach: but from the day he started preaching to the people, John knew that he was sent to go before the Lord, to announce His coming, and direct all men to "Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world;" and that, "He must increase!"
As Byron says, here is John in prison unable to all together construe what is happening with his cousin, Jesus,even though he witnessed the holy spirit descend opon him like a dove and heard the voice of God commending Jesus as his son. Faith is hard. It must be hard fought

Jesus seems 2 b quoting first part of isaiah 35 prophecy speaking of the miracles... but Isaiah goes on yet jesus left out about the righteous being upheld and the wicked sinners being judged.. Jesus was telling john he knew what troubled him.. what do i think of Luke ..... ? what i think is - it's not what i think of Luke; because 'Luke' is part of God's word - it's what Luke (God) thinks of me. I didn't 'choose' God; He chose me.

In Luke 7:39 The accuser, Satan, was there sending the Pharisees as his agent, to accuse the woman because of her longstanding sin. They are there to watch here grave of sin, and to keep here under the oppression of guilt mind set. But this woman, knew something greater than her guilt mind set, somebody is there, in the midst of her accusation, who can lift her from grave of sin, by His power.
