"A Fresh Look At Matt. 28:19"; Trinitarians favorite scripture is, in reality, one of the best vs. for Jesus name one God believers. It is easily rendered so by asking the simple question, 'What is the name'? The answer is: JESUS. Jesus ALSO said, "That repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name." Peter got it exactly right with Acts2:38, Peter again, Acts 4:10-12; 10:1-6.

quote - A vital fact must be remembered regarding the Apostles being taught. It is important to US because it applies to us in exactly the same way it did to them. "Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures." Without divine illumination no man can understand the scriptures. unquote

Lk. 24:47 is a witness to Matt. 28:19 - " ... preached in His NAME; Acts2:38; 4:12. These are all witnesses of the NAME Jesus. Jesus IS the Father in creation, the Son in redemption, the Holy Ghost in regeneration. These are titles, not 'names'; JESUS is the name (and I quote someone else on here - Jesus said so). Peter DID what Jesus said when he preached Acts2:38.

Vs. 47, 49 - These 2 vs. is exactly what happened 10 days after Jesus ascended; they tarried and prayed those 10 days and the spirit came on the breath of God (wind) and br'ot the Holy Ghost in tongues of fire. Then Peter opened the way of salvation with the keys of Acts 2:38 - repentance, baptism in Jesus name, filled with the Holy Ghost.

  • Jarritt on Luke 24 - 7 years ago
"Why are ye troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?" the promised appearing of Jesus our Lord should keep our hearts in check and not trouble our hearts as believers in Jesus. Why think what will be tomorrow when it is already promised by a covenant keeping God who is alive with in the heart of His people...

  • Lydia on Luke 24 - 8 years ago
The more we talk about Jesus or the more we mediate on the Word the more Jesus will reveal Himself to us. He will be in our midst. He will open our eyes to see spiritual things and He will open our understanding. Lets stay in the word until CHrist comes again.

Phil - I think the other person with Cleopas was Simon. See verse 34. Although this probably was not the same Simon as part of the 11 based on verse 33.

The Bible don 't say v13 two men on the road to emmaus, I beleve v18 it was Cleopas and his wife. They were not disciples.
  • Rev. Tim George on Luke 24:30 - 8 years ago
When Jesus took the bread, and blessed it, the eyes of the disciples were opened, and they knew it is the Lord. After that Jesus vanished from their site. Then they said, did not our hearts burn within us, as He opened with us the scriptures. O how I wish we could have been there! Happy Resurrection Day everyone, for He is risen just as He said.
  • Lilian on Luke 24 - 9 years ago
Jesus is the resurrection of life even if we are died we still have life. Jesus is truly risen from the dead because he is the Son of the Living God that our Holy Father had promised that his Son Jesus Christ will sit beside our Father. Jesus recieved and crowned because of his perfect obedience to the Father. There is no other above name is Jesus. We must be thankful to Jesus for the blood he shed for us in order for us to be saved and have life in abundance. Praised God and Jesus loves you
  • Mike D on Luke 24:6 - 9 years ago
Luke 24:6 is probably one of my favorite verses in the Bible. We must go to the previous verse and find the message "why seek ye the living among the dead and then they remind them something that Jesus Himself spoke to them repeatedly. Remember what He said. The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day arise.
  • Mike D on Luke 24:4 - 9 years ago
Throughout the Old and New Testament both you find the mention of angels. Never are men to worship angels for there is only One worthy of worship. Most times they take on the form of men when dealing with man as seen here. Other times they aid the redeemed of Christ. It states that their clothing was shining. It seems that in every instance that men came into the presence of an angel it struck fear in their hearts as we see in the next verse.
  • Rudy Moreno on Luke 24:47 - 9 years ago
Just a lesser version of Matthew 28:19 .... Still Acts 2:38 .... It took me reading Acts 2:38 , hundreds of times before I was able to receive it with all my heart!... It was taught to me by the same Holy Spirit that Peter the Apostle was empowered with on the day of Pentecost .... Something to ponder
  • Mike D on Luke 24:39 - 9 years ago
It 's been said that the only thing in heaven that is man made is the scares in the body of Jesus. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the clearest declaration that Jesus is LORD. Romans 1:4 states and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. Here Jesus is standing in the presence of his disciples and others, not in spirit form but in human form where they could touch, him talk to him, watch him eat. This would transform their lives to where they would go to their deaths confessing the Lordship of Jesus. The Christian faith stands on the truth of the resurrection. I Cor:15:13, Now if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is not Christ risen, vs. 14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Without the resurrection there is no hope.
