Luke Chapter 23 Discussion

Although there is a debate regarding the date of JESUS' birth, the main point is that HE came as was promised. Amen!

So let us enjoy the time we have to celebrate and declare HIS salvation with HIS blood shed on the cross.

Then there is a debate regarding HIS resurrection.

    2 Corinthians 4:

3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost

May we live our lives showing that our GOD lives. We can show this by being obedient and true to HIS word. 2 Timothy 2:15; 3: 16, 17

    Merry Christmas to all; and

    Numbers 6

24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:

25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

    Luke 2

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

Have a great time with family and friends!

Jesus was amazing. He was willing to be crucified for our sins. How many of us would be willing to do such a thing. It scares me; I would not want to be in his shoes.

Luke 23:34 "Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."

hand, and the other on the left.

Here, the verb "said" records in the imperfect tense. An imperfect tense verb describes a continuous and repeated behavior or action.

In effect, JESUS CHRIST spoke these words many times regarding HIS FATHER's Forgiveness toward HIS crucifiers before HIS death on the cross.

Moreover, JESUS CHRIST spoke the verb "forgive" in the imperative mood. An imperative mood verb is a command which demands obedience.

BOTH GOD THE FATHER and GOD THE SON mutually agree perfectly with one another in all matters as CHRIST proclaimed in John 10:30: "I and MY FATHER are ONE."

As THEY are both ONE in Essence, so too are THEY both ONE in agreement, purpose, cooperation, and behavior. BOTH acts as unified One-ness in all matters.

BOTH GOD THE FATHER and GOD THE SON DIVINELY Designed, Purposed, and Willed this Forgiveness in eternity passed which is why JESUS CHRIST prayed these words from the cross and also which is why GOD THE FATHER willingly obeyed the imperative.

I believe Luke 23:28 was Jesus looking into the future and giving us his last thoughts on earth

He stopped to warn Woman about the future evils of abortions

"Daughters of Jerusalem do not weep for me weep for yourselves and your children. For indeed the days are comming in which they will say Blessed are the barren wombs that never bore and breasts which never nursed

for if they do these in the green wood what will happen in the dry" Green wood is a carpenters term for young and fertile dry is old and dry. Jesus then says "Father forgive them for they do not know what they do"

All people are invited into salvation. Galatians 3:28

If you are referring to the religion of Judaism these verses answer that:

    John 14:6, Acts 4:12, John 3:16

Only those who believe and follow Jesus will receive salvation. This who reject Jesus should not expect salvation.

    God bless...

  • Lazarus the Beggar. Luke 15 - In Reply on Luke 23 - 2 years ago
This story tells the answer: the Rich man never helped anyone; he didn't obey God. He died in his sins and went to hell.

19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

    22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

23 And in HELL he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this FLAME.

25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:

28 For I have five brothers; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

    PD, Kim and Audrey,

"And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise." Luk 23:43

On the cross Jesus' physical body lost life. He died. But His Spirit and our spirits when we die, live on.

    Paul revealed to us:

"Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2Co 5:6-8

In the New Testament, paradise is mentioned three times. Here it refers to the abode of the righteous dead.

    The Scripture Luke 23:43

God is everywhere at all times so why are folks questioning ... Today in Paradise?

Nothing is to hard and nothing is impossible with God. Stop limiting God. The Trinity has no limits like mankind do

In this scene the Jews did not understand that this drama of Jesus and Barabbas is the same as what the Jews had been doing for centuries. The high priest would bring two goats to the temple. They would both be brought into the Holiest of Holies, behind the curtain and showed there to God. One goat would be taken out and led far out into the wilderness and set free. That goat was the scape goat. The other was slaughtered and its blood offered.

Barabbas was the scape goat and Jesus was the goat slaughtered. The Jews should have easily recognized this but for our sakes, (Gentiles) they were blinded and Jesus was put to death. The innocent for the guilty. Barabbas was guilty of crimes while Jesus was innocent of sin. I thank God for this truth. When we trust in Jesus Christ just as the thief on the cross did, we too can have forgiveness of sin. Our sin was nailed to His cross and I bear it no more. Praise the Lord.
  • John M Swanson - In Reply on Luke 23:31 - 3 years ago
Yes, amen. I woke up this morning early with this thought on my mind concerning this passage of scripture. Jesus was also indicating that when they (The world) commit sin during good times, what will they do when things are not so good. For Jesus, that moment was quickly passing as He went to the cross. He knew shortly He would be with His Father and there was trouble ahead for the Jews. He knew it would get much worse for all of them.
  • SkipVought - In Reply on Luke 23:31 - 3 years ago
John, this is a wonderful thought. Thank you.

This was Jesus' response to women who were distraught and crying as Jesus was being lead to Golgotha to be crucified. He had been beaten repeatedly the previous night and into the early morning, slapped, spit on, crowned with thorns, hauled before the Jewish high priest, King Herod and Roman Governor Pilate and now, about to be crucified at 9:00 am. He pauses on His way long enough to utter these words to the sobbing women...

"Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck. Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us. For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?" Luk 23:28-31
  • John M Swanson on Luke 23:31 - 3 years ago
This saying of Jesus is this. He said if they do it in the green tree what shall become of the dry? Jesus is the chief cornerstone. He is of course speaking about persecution. He knew very well what was going to happen in 70 Ad when Titus came and destroyed Jerusalem. The temple was razed and not one stone was upon another. If they persecuted Me, they shall also persecute you. Our world right now in Feb, 2021 is nearing the time when they who hate Jesus and His message will come against those who are His true followers. Jesus is the green tree. He was and is fruitful and is bearing fruit. We as well should be following Him and yes even unto persecution if and when it comes. He told them not to weep for Him but weep for yourselves because a terrible time is coming. Those words are prophetic words and He knew very well He was speaking in terms of the near and distant future. Know this, God knows how to protect His own. He also says He will never leave us or forsake us in times of trouble. We can always count on the truth that Jesus is our true Shephard and He will lead us into green pastures. Heaven. No matter what we face now, the green pastures in Heaven await the faithful. Remain strong in the faith come what may.

Jesus is referring to the earth when it is restored back to the paradise that God always meant it to be. At Matt 6:10, n our model prayer it says "Let ur Kingdom come, Let ur will b done, as n heaven also on earth. He couldnt have meant heaven cuz at John 3:5 Jesus said unless anyone is born from water n spirit he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. And he couldnt have meant that literal day, Jesus was n the tomb for 3 days n didnt actually go to heaven till 40 some days later

    I agree about the.demon activity.

The word of God tells us to keep ourselves unspotted from the world.
  • Mishael on Peaceful Protests - In Reply on Luke 23:31 - 3 years ago
Find where Jesus participated in a peaceful protest?

The crowd that screamed for His crucifixion was somewhat orderly till they brought him to the podium with a red horse blanket over him and a crown of thorns (needles 5 inches long):

The crowd became a DEMON and screamed for The Guilty Verdict. Penalty: Death

I know if many of you have heard of actual demonic persecution. It's a whole different teaching but it's in the New Testament in numerous places.

Demons are no doubt in the crowds pushing people to do the unthinkable. They had the Pharisees doing demonic will. Demons thought they finally had the Son of God at last... to suffer and die a grisly death for working on the Sabbath.

Demons of violence; chaos; murder; demons of death! Spiritual wickedness.

People who take over protests are possessed by Satan with plans for mayhem. They don't care if you're blinded by a rubber bullet.

The New Testament in the Bible has a lot to say about last days Of violence. It would be wise to study that.

Try thinking what cities will be like one hour after the rapture (Caught Up) happens? There's not enough police to stop a flood of demon possessed people armed with guns or baseball bats. If recent hoarding wasn't bad enough; after the Rapture they'll knock in your doors for what they want. It's gonna be bad...

    It's not a phenomenon or a fad; it's a preview.

Jesus did miracles still they did not believe.

They will believe a false one because of miracles.

I read where Jesus said they the religious leaders kept the key of knowledge from the people.

    Knowledge is the key.

The name of Jesus is the key.
  • S on Luke 23:31 - 3 years ago
Should you join the world in peaceful protests?

I don't think so because that's of the world. Jesus didn't come to bring peace but a sword and taking up your cross doesn't include protesting with the world.

comment on Psalms 78 and matthew 13 kjv I will open my mouth in a PARABLE i will utter things kept SECRET from the foundation of the world Jesus was releasing his secret in the parable of the sower and his seed which is the living word th new covenant. God is gonna put his Words/seeds in our hearts and minds initiating a birth of Christ in Mankind AS THE FIELD IS THE WORLD .Jesus is gonna utter Gods simply b/c his words/seed are the very seeds of God,I have said meaning his Words are the very seeds of God,I have said ye are Gods thats y he is saying to whom the Word came ( his seed ) ye are Gods And the scripture cannot be broken. Jesus even tells us the good seed are the children of the kingdom i.e his seed are Children not flesh and blood children but heavenly children th H.G CHILDREN as that which is born of the spirit is spirit thats the H.G. THATS THE CHILD he was refering to when he said whosoever receiveth one Child in my NAME recieves ME.When he Said i have Said ye are Gods ( Said implies his breath ). Not only is Jesus God but his breath, his Word is the very seed of God and this cannot be refuted as it was the great Promise the multiplication of God remember God the father swore by his very self when he made the PROMISE that Christ wd be multiplied as the stars of heaven thus the sower and his seed is the secret and is about the multiplication of God inhumanity as the field is the world. And thats y Jesus refers to the H.G as the Promise ,the H.G is the offspring of Jesus meaning his seed the PROMISE,Jesus cd not refer to the H.G as the promise if he were not his offspring the Granson. the Israel of God. Without Jacob the Granson in the Abrahamic trinity there cd not have been a Nation of israel. Thus there cannot be an Israel of God without the heavenly trinity simply b/c Christ is gonna be multiplied as the stars of heaven which is the Israel of God thus the sower and his precious seed the Word th new covenant ( the book ) in Gods right hand. gbu
