Wesley's Notes for Luke 2:43

2:43 The child Jesus - St. Luke describes in order Jesus the fruit of the womb, #Lu 1:42|; an infant, #Lu 2:12|; a little child, #Lu 2:40|; a child here, and afterward a man. So our Lord passed through and sanctified every stage of human life. Old age only did not become him.

People's Bible Notes for Luke 2:43

Lu 2:43 Fulfilled the days. The seven of the passover week. Jesus tarried behind. Luke neither tells us that Jesus remained behind at Jerusalem intentionally, nor that Joseph and Mary lost sight of him through want of necessary care. A circumstance must here have been omitted, and we may safely suppose that Joseph and Mary joined their fellow-travelers in the persuasion that Jesus, who knew of the time and place of departure, was among the younger ones.

Insight; the Law given through Moses was right from the mouth of God; NOTHING of his own thoughts! It was for the blood that the woman was unclean in giving birth; and for bringing to remembrance the redemption sacrifice of Christ for all who are born of women, that this purification was required. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself is without sin; yet He subjected Himself to fulfill all righteousness.

Insight; Have you not read, or perhaps forgotten, that the Covenant God made with Abraham, He established for all the son's of the Covenant for ever? and shouldn't He also who made the Covenant, when He came in flesh, Himself be subject to His own oath? Why did Jesus go to John to be baptized? Because "Thus it becomes us to fulfill all righteousness." Circumcision is a sign in the flesh, of faith.

V22, the days were accomplished, 8 days passed, but it does not actually say Jesus was circumcised. The purpose of the birth of Jesus is to remove false religion to establish the true religion. Jesus never circumcised anyone or teach it. Woman, Mary, is not un-pure after giving birth. NO Blood sacrifice needed. Male babies are not holy and female babies unholy. Both are holy because God gave life.
