Wesley's Notes for Luke 15:29

15:29 Lo, so many years do I serve thee - So he was one of the instances mentioned #Lu 15:7|. How admirably therefore does this parable confirm that assertion! Yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends - Perhaps God does not usually give much joy to those who never felt the sorrows of repentance.

People's Bible Notes for Luke 15:29

Lu 15:29 Neither transgressed I at any time. Here is the very spirit of Pharisaism, a self-righteous spirit. His charges show while nominally with the father, he was far away from him in spirit.

Many of us were indeed like the younger son, and some like the elder son. The younger son was very stupid and selfish, and his youth and inexperience cost him dearly in the sinful way he fell into. The older brother might have had an opportunity to go looking for his brother, instead of just being angry at him. The sinner is to be condemned, and that's what he does to himself when he repents.

What do we know about the father and son's name etc. in Luke 15: 11-21?
  • Peter A. Okebukola
Many of us are prodigal sons striving to return to the warm embrace of Jesus and celebration in heaven of a returning lost soul. Thank Jesus for His forgiving spirit.

The lost sheep. Though one has the security if a flock yet will he leave all to search for what is missing. The same for the woman misplacing a coin. She will search for the lost coin even though what she has is adequate. The son didn't appreciate money but wasted it. All depict worldly life. It isn't enough. Who will love his life the world will lose it. Repent is to regret and change

My thought: When we as children of God fall from grace we must recognize that God hands is still stretch and He is still married to the backslider. There should never be an act of condemnation towards that backslider because God is the one who condemns. What we as saints should realize is when God is in control there is victory and where victory is there is power.

What a world: And the publican, standing far off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying,God be merciful to me a sinner. Luke 18:10-13.
In the Greek, publican is a tax collector.
Romans 3:10-11 as it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one:11: There is none that understanding, there is none that seeketh after God.
