Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling......seems to me what you do with your body or any other matter is between you and God....
  • Ron on Leviticus 19:28 - 10 years ago
God has given us free will. God has given us his word and his Spirit to discern. We can start in Genesis and see where God says, "let us create man in our image. " I have a difficult time convincing myself the Godhead has brightly colored markings with different sayings, phrases, or pictures. Some will argue that Lev 19 28 is in the Old Testament so it doesn 't matter. We must then take into consieration that Pastors are accountable to teach the whole counsel of God. Now if we want to move forward to the New Testament we must take into consideration that the Bible tells us our bodies are the the temple of the Holy Spirit. 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God 's. I believe if God wanted us to have tattoos he could certainly have addressed that at creation. The Bible teaches us separation, christians are in the world but not of the world. We are to live and act differently than the world. We are to be different to make a differnce. The world viewpoints and standards due not match up and are not in agreement with God 's viewpoint and standards. If an individual has gotten tattoos prior to salvation and did not have biblical knowledge and understanding so be it. I do not understand why a Bible believing Christian who possess Bible knowledge and understanding would consider the thought. I guess the bottom line is we all have free will and the Spirit of God to discern what is God honoring and that which is not.

My comment is I feel that when the Bible says not to tattoo or Mark your body we shouldn 't....we should abide by the Word of God although the scripture verse is in the Old Testament on tattoos so is the Ten Commandments should we throw that out too I think not.....some people think that it 's not wrong to get tattoos our bodies are the temple of God....

To me it points more to cuttings or marks in your flesh for the dead for instance getting a butterfly tattoo isn t necessarily a sin but getting a tattoo of a scull or perhaps the name of someone who s dead it just seems to say not to glorify death by marking up your body
  • Coral on Leviticus 19:27 - 10 years ago
Jesus Christ does not has long hair and the scipture didn t say that man must not trim their hair it clearly stated that they should not shave the hair on the temple or their beard that means the hair on the side of their face or their beard 1 cor 11 14 15

I have some I also been down a wrong path for a wile ago but i never felt so ashamed or so guilty as when i put the initials of another man on my body I look at it every day ashamed because it felt unclean as if i marked my body for a worldly thing I will never do that again and will one day get it removed when i can but I dont feel that way about my other tattoos they didn t have that meaning they were pretty in my eyes I didnt get a tattoo in worship or appreciation to anyone or anything else or because someone told me to I cant say I m right about everything but I wouldn t called it cowardice or being tough as some people have said I think that it was simply excepted overtime as just something that was done tho I cant be for sure and thus the meaning changed over time It brings me to piercing we wear earrings all the time but in the Bible it shows that at some point earrings were a sign of slavery and this is why im so curious about the meaning of a tattoo vs a mark because there are other times they wore earnings for self purposes
  • Precious peters on Leviticus 19:28 - 10 years ago

My comment is for '' the cop of 17 years'' Ernie's comment on 2013-10-07 11:17:55: while you are right tattoos is forbidden in the bible, you are way out of line by saying only individuals from prison get tatts. Negative my friend, I know probation officers and law enforcement officials who have tattoos, including myself. You are stereotyping and that is against code of ethics and the law. So if you were a cop for so long, why didn't you know this. I think Sean is dead on.

its clear and no excuse for this no man should round the corners of his head and mar the corners of his beard though it is for the priest and we re all priest according to 1peter2:9

very informative, before you chose to apply to your life, first understand the cost, then pray and ask only God for the Knowledgs, Understanding, and Wisdom for true clarity on what is being said, Holiness is not in your clothing, nor in how you look, but from God, Love all, respect all, this is the will of God.
  • Ben on Leviticus 19:28 - 10 years ago
I find it hard to believe that people who have free will and the ability to live their lives accordingly are subject to judgement from others. First of all did or did not Noah get found drunk and naked from under a tree? Yet he was still graciously remarked by God as a lead by exanple man in human flesh and noted what he was used for, as well as the fact he was found drunk which is a sin.. We are human we make mistakes and if i decide to bite my nails or peel away a scab i am suddenly an evil sinner who is satanic? So speaking of the dead, if i have a cross tattoo on me representing my love for the ALIVE ALIMIGHTY, im a patethic sinner who has self esteem issues? What about people who are burned/marked by other people? You judge without knowing or knowing which is a self esteem issue for yourself and also hypocritical. Worry about yourself and your own. Quit trying to make things happen according to your own beliefs. Thats why we are in war

I will retract my statement on Tattoo's, after futher study. I think God is against tattoo's! I have a few and was blind to the truth. On another note God came for the people that are the farthest away from Him (GOD). That encompasses people with tattoo's long hair, ear rings, all sinners, etc.. So God will take you as you are!! I don't think it will send you to hell, but should be avoided. God wants all people to come to Church no matter if they have any of these things listed.Be careful, we don't want to deter anyone with these markings from attending Church!!! God sent them to Church by the power of the Holy Spirit and we should not make them feel unwanted because of these markings or appearances! There is no difference in a sin, one is not greater that the other! We must examine our own lifes to what sin we have and accept any and all that come to Church, thanks for all who have posted to this verse.
  • Daniil on Leviticus 19:27 - 10 years ago
this verse has nothing to do with the hair on your head. leviticus 19:27 forbids the cutting of sideburns or shaving of beards.

we are all created in His image. shaving is a form of desecrating our bodies, which is a sign of disrespect to God.
  • Mike on Leviticus 19:28 - 10 years ago
About piercing, look where they got the gold to make the molten calf for yourself. Hint: Your young woman and young mens earrings? It is custom related, some cultures it is fine as stated when they made the molten calf.Don't Americanize the Bible!!!!!!
  • Linda on Leviticus 19:28 - 10 years ago
But are we supposed to pick and choose which parts of Old Testament law we will follow and which ones we won't? I don't particularly care for tattoos anyway, would never get one, and it seems to me that people with all-over 'body art' must have some sort of mental issue that makes them want to go through that much pain, and be 'decorated' all the time. All that said, while I would love to point to this scripture and say God forbids tattoos, what about some of the other things in Leviticus that we happily ignore? The New Testament addresses some of this, and lifetime Christians ("Gentiles", in the NT) seem to have fewer restrictions than Jews who convert to Christianity. Sacrifices are no longer required, of course - Christ was THE final sacrifice for all. By His words, He also, I would argue, abolished the death penalty and 'an eye for an eye'. God is the final judge. We are to forgive out enemies (70 times 7 ring a bell?). But are tattoos or 'scarifiction' still forbidden even to Christians? I would think so, and after seeing some pretty horrifying pictures recently, even WISH so. But, still... is it up to us to judge? CAN we, as Christians, do so?
  • Wensis on Leviticus 19:28 - 10 years ago
Maybe i'm wrong maybe i'm right...

I have a tattoo aswel, I repented in december last year.. That means, I took my forgiveness from God in the name of Jesus, and yeah I felt the touch of God it's the most beautifull thing in life! (I'm still not near perfect, but i'm thankfull everyday)..

But this is for the people that are affraid.. Maybe you have a tattoo.. please don't worry about it.. Because what really mathers.. is the intention of you heart.. That's where the reall judgement lies.

If you did it, just keep in mind, you didn't do it in the occult or whatever meaning you can bring on it.. you did because you liked it, or you have a special meaning with the tattoo..

And for all you guys out there, Ask God Himself.. that's what the relationship with Him is all about.. And trust in Him to give you answers as he will see fit..

If you trust in the Lord Jesus, You will find everything, God has planned for us all.

Godbless everybody here, and everyone reading my opinion. In the name of yesua / Jesus ! That you all may feel the glory of God, and the knowledge of the Holy spirit!

This thought distinguishes the Jewish people more than anything else when you think of the way people lived in those days of Tribal rivalries. A totally different way to treat strangers as guest or friends, not enemies.
  • Tiffany on Leviticus 19:28 - 10 years ago
I have a tattoo, but it is Chinese symbols. I believe hat Gods word is law. People can't judge other people. Because by the end of the day they got to answer to God not you. So, if they mark heir body that's that them, but by the end of the day you got to right with God.
  • Jim Lee on Leviticus 19:28 - 10 years ago
If you don't believe in Jesus & the bible, which is the word of God.Jesus Christ created everything & was in the old testament.Your going to interpret the Bible on how you want it to say & not what God is saying. This scripture says:'You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD.
    - New American Standard Version (1995)

You obey what the word of God says.If you did this to your self:Repent & don't do this anymore.God will forgive you.

And to those who love saying:Your judging me.That scripture is referring to when you stand before God on judgment day.
  • Jarrett Forte on Leviticus 19:27 - 10 years ago
Leviticus 19:27 is one of my favorite Bible versus... Jesus Christ NEVER had a hair cut or any type of clean shave. He also didn't have the tools needed to do so. Basically the verse is telling God's children, us, to be completely natural no hair cuts no shaving Just natural. I don't think you will go to hell for shaving or getting a hair cut but I don't, I don't shave or cut my hair some people like it some people don't. If God didn't want men to have beards he wouldn't have created them. If he wanted people to be bald he would have made us all bald. In This day and age 2013 for the most part especially in the city areas in the united states people rarely look like the people did back in Bible times... The goal for a Christian is to be more and more like Jesus Christ everyday. God didn't make anything bad, people make things bad. I will not shave, I am 19 years old and masculine and comfortable with myself. "With God All things are possible." - Matthew 19:26 I would like to also say everything isn't for everybody... Just because I look good with a Big beard and a lot of hair doesn't mean the weather man with a haircut and a clean shave would too... Everything isn't for everybody... Thank you and God Bless

Thou shall not hold grudge against the children of the Lord, for he is the Lord our God,he hears out our prayers. Those who betray us we forgive them without judging them, but put them in God,for us we don't have a right to cast stones.
  • Allen on Leviticus 19:28 - 10 years ago
It Is plain and simple. Don't do it. It's what the Lord says. End of story.
  • Maryk on Leviticus 19 - 10 years ago
Mike, we were taught in bible study that a woman's hair was something to treasure and take care of. It was said that a woman could not enter the gates of heaven with short hair. I thank GOD that my hair grows extremely fast. I cut my hair once a year when it reaches below my shoulder blades, because I have thick full hair and the weight of it causes me to have headaches. The last time I cut it, and I cut it in a short-bob, was September 30th 2012, here it is a year later and it is the same length as when I cut it.

There are many women who would never think of cutting their hair, but there are those that feel that they have to go with the flow of trying something "new."
But it is not our physical body but our spirit that stands before GOD, so I think HE will see us for what were are, the before creatures that HE created. We are all beautiful in HIS eyes, no matter what others may think of us, HE is all that matters!!!!
  • Mary on Leviticus 19:28 - 10 years ago
I am of Irish descent, and have wanted to get a "trinity" tattoo for a very long time. After researching what the scriptures say about marking your body, "the temple of God" I changed my mind. Pagans have marked themselves throughout history, so I can understand GOD wanting to keep his people's bodies clean and free of markings. There are many ways of honoring your loved ones other then tattooing your body with their portrait or name.

this coment is for Ernie so you were a cop for 17 years.you sure have learned to judge pepole.that is just as much as a sin as tattooing notice how i spelled tattoo.learn how to spell it before you talk about it this is what is wrong with christians we judge.and the lord said judge not least you be judged.and yes piericing the ears is a sin also. im covered in tattoos and love the lord. Ernie you are going to make society say look at those christians judging me for the way i look. by the way being over weight is a sin also need me to go on cause i can.
  • Ernie on Leviticus 19:28 - 10 years ago
its not your body, dont do it. psychology studies relate that low self esteem and COWARDICE prompt people to get tatoos to exhibit "look at me Im tough" I gotta tatoo. Seriously! it is selfish craving attention when Jesus say become selfless. SPend the $200-$1000 dollars buying someone lunch instead. "why do you spend money on things other than food that sustains." Tatoos are just nasty. I always ask "Hey what did you go in for?"(prison) After being a cop for 17 yrs priorities of criminals are screwed up..tatoos,beer,drugs,cigarettes,big rims on my car, loud stereo,..forget feeding and providing for the children created in a drunken stupor...but look at my cool tatoo and my obama phone and food stamps. Why do you want to look like a ex-con? To instill fear in other people. thats the technique of the devil. Have a nice day. you cant eat that tatoo.but hey your cool and Im not. Jesus still loves you.

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal,
The Lord knoweth them that are His.
And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from inquity. 11 Timothy 2:19
