    KD,

The Book of Jasher is an extra biblical book that is not included in the Bible. It is quoted in both Joshua and 2 Samuel. It mostly covers the first five books of the Bible and ends with Joshua's death. the original and authentic Book of Jasher has been lost since ancient times. The Book of Jasher inprint to day was created in the 1700's and is most likely fraudulent. It includes statements that go against what the Bible says.

There is a very simple explanation in the understanding of the sun and the moon "standing still" for a day. If the north and south poles were reversed it would create a long day. A simple way to see this phenomenon is to set a concrete mixer in motion and watch intently as it is turned over as in emptying it. It gives the impression of standing still and is a perfect example of the long day of Joshua

Jack, the account in Josh 10:5 speaks of Gentile nations which inhabited that area. See also Josh 15:63, which shows the inhabitants of Jerusalem as the Jebusites. Israel was still being led by Joshua & were encamped at Gilgal (as part of their journeyings) when the call came to him from Gibeon requesting Joshua's help. So Israel only had Judges (after Joshua) who governed & led Israel till the time of the kings. And King Saul, not God's chosen but the one whom the people desired, was Israel's first king ( 1 Sam 11:15).

It is said that the King of Jerusalem was one of the five kings that encamped Gibeon. Joshua chapter 10 verse 5 said, "Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it." There was no king of Israel then right?

There is no sin for women to wear trousers. It is nowhere in the bible that states that women can't wear trousers. Read the bible for yourself, don't listen to everything people tell you no matter if they are clergy or not. some want to keep you in bondage.

This tells me that if God is with you nothing can defeat you.One has to experience God presence always which will enable you to overcome your fears. God was with Joshua that why they overcame their enemies.

Hi Jane, If it is lawful for a woman to wear a dress/skirt/short pants, long pants and her husband prefers she wear a particular style she would not be sinning if she did so. A woman should submit to her husband in all things unless it goes against scripture. I hope this helps.
    Proverbs 1:7
    Proverbs 9:10
    Luke 12:5

Why is this dressing issue on women alone, it bothers and confuses me. I totally abhor women who dress indecently but what is wrong with trousers that covers a women with a good top? The trouser are female trousers that men can't wear yet some preachers in Africa pass judgement on these women. Is it a sin to wear female trouser? Are women whose husband prefer them in trouser sinning?

Betty Betts, like you said this was in the Old Testament. God never gave man a Saturday sabbath in the New Testament that Jesus Christ life, death, and resurrection brought us. Mk. 2:27 says, The sabbath was made for man and not man for the sabbath ". Christians legally honor Jesus Christ resurrection on Sunday because he is our Lord and Saviour who perfectly filled the entire law. Bless God.

Joshua never relied on the potential of being God's servant. He used all the instructions God gave to him to combat God' enemies. We are likely to compromise on things that God hates. Cause we need to accomodate everyone into our circles. With Joshua if God said women must dress properly with all respect, he just honoured God, if God says I allow no woman to preach or to teach with Joshua it was an Amen, that's why God honoured his prayer to stop the Sun.

I see that God was giving man a chance to win over his foe, after during that man still have not learn to trust God for things he need. Everything man want has to be fast and in a hurry. Wait on The Lord and he will fight your battles.

If in Old Testament the Sabbath was Saturday, and we worship on Sunday, are we going against God?

To Ahkeerah 's Joshua chapter 10 comment regarding the book ofJasher, it is not included in the Bible, but you can find and read them 5 books on internet. It is almost the same as the 5 first books of old testament covering from creation to Moses death.

I am curious to know what God people on this thread is referring to because the most high had one chosen group they were Hebrew Israelites.i have not read to date any other group of people he has chosen as his special people. Also as it stated in 10 13 "is not this written in the book of Jasher ". So who 's read the book of Jasher...???

In response to Charlie Frank 's comment, I am very glad you brought up this comment. When I first read Joshua, I was shocked by the violence of the book until I realized that God did give these tribes the opportunity to turn to Him before He destroyed them. The five tribes here sought to kill Joshua and his people because their neighbors, the gibeonites, turned to God. They attacked for spite of the Gibeonites, not in self defense. All of the tribes whom God slew through Joshua were those who had hardened their hearts against God. They committed the unpardonable sin of Pharaoh hardening their hearts against God, who otherwise would have been merciful. The violence in this book should not make us question God, but fear Him. They should also encourage us, helping us to know that if God is on our sides, nobody can hope to stand against us. God does not wish violence on His people, but He also promised to protect those who turned to Him against their forsworn enemies. And so with the people of Israel under Joshua God protects His chosen, who turn to Him in humility, recognizing their weaknesses and placing all at His feet.

JOSHUA WAS A CHOSEN VESSEL BY GOD FOR THE CONTINUATION OF HIS RESCUE BID FOR ISRAEL.JOSHUA WAS FEARLESS AND BOLD TO EXECUTE THE PLAN OF GOD.THE FIVE KINGS WERE EVIL IN THEIR DEEDS,HENCE THE PUNISHMENT OF GOD. THIS SHOULD TEACH NIGERIAN LEADERS,THAT GOD IS WATCHING THEM ALL. HE THAT HAS EARS,LET HIM HEAR.GOD BLESS YOU ALL.IJN.AMEN

An extrordinary event. According to astronomy thinking...because the sun is stable before the earth and the moon has an orbit around the earth,.it was the earth that stopped spinning long enough for Joshua to have victory. God stopped the earth from.rotating for a whole day.

This chapter really showed us that whenever God takes a decision he never goes back from it until he archives his desire. He promised to give the lands of those countries that was destroyed to the children of Israel and he did it.
  • Charlie frank on Joshua 10 - 10 years ago
it seems to me that joshua was threatening all these places i guess they had to band together to try and protect themselves from him why did he have to kill the five kings why couldn t he foregive them

This needs to be taught today in church So people will see what happens To people who stand in GOD way He left none alive no women no children all that breathed died GOD is the same today yesterday To not fear HIM is to be a fool
  • Couragefire on Joshua 10:13 - 10 years ago
This is an extraordinary event that happened and that isn't even a worthy adjective but the Wonder of God to bring Victory for those who pay the price of obedience is real , as Joshua was a committed and obedient leader to the people of God!

We will always have enemies surrounding and monitoring our lives. But thanks be to the Ever Present Heavenly Father, who will always command His Ministers to step their feet on these enemies' necks; and say to me "Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage". v25 wow!
  • Honest on Joshua 10 - 10 years ago
This chapter really inspires me, especially where the 5kings teamed up against the king of Gibeon. This shows that my enemy will always team up with those who do not wish me well, but my GOD will first give them all into my hands to defeat, thereby encouraging me, and then He will join the fight by throwing stones at them right from the House of Caves, Wrath and Anger (Bethhoron) to the Cultivated Ground (Azekah). The 5leaders (Kings) themselves will be drawn out of their hiding place (cave, and the Heavenly hosts will step on their necks, while I stand still in victory! I really get edified by this chapter.
