Note THE POWER OF GOD TO FORGIVE in the above, plus the BLESSING from GOD of life /daily living extended to a entire city. A old, old, hymn says... I so glad to be in the number one more time....
The 1611 text for Jonah 3:1 - And the word of þe Lordcame vnto Ionah. The original edition, the word Lord is separated by a newline from came.

Jonah was told to go to Nineveh and preach the word of God. Nineveh was 3 days journey, Jonah got there in one day. He must have ran. He was not about to disobey God again.

Individually or collectively, our evil-ways anger Jehovah / GOD to the degree that it could be the last chance we will get. Thank GOD for HIS GRACE in 2018, thereby we may get 2nd, 3rd, ..., but we must not take GOD's GRACE / Goodness as weakness, because HE can / will read our heart un-be-knowing to us, then unsuspectingly past a judgement on us and we will not like his decision. WOW! WOW! WOW!

National repentance was made because the King and all the people of Nineveh repented. God saw their actions and changed his mind and did not destroy the city.

I feel it teaches us that God will not abide with His children in sin. Yet He is a loving Father and He is holy. He wants nothing more than to heal our backsliding but we must first humble ourselves and pray. No fancy prayer required...just an honest heart and contrite spirit. He uses the weak things to confound the wise.
• A disciple
How do we pray? Matthew 6:5-13 the Lord Jesus tells us exactly: first; not to do so as an actor under an assumed character to put on or give a false or misleading appearance to conceal one's true nature, motives or thoughts - NOT as a hypocrite! Not for fondness of praise from others in Church or on the streets; Not for "giving light to others;" Not as the heathen, acting out of superstition.

God in control, put God first , humble is the way. If he tell you to go right go to the right. We like Jonah rebelled against God by running in the opposite direction. but that ok God is a forgiving and loving God we get a second chance

According to my experience with reading God's word the Old Testament showed various ways of how people reveranced God. The word also tells us that we can approach the throne of God with boldness in time of need.

MrMon. Daniel 6:10"Daniel kneeled toward Jerusalem and prayed"Acts 20:36;kneeled down,Kings20:2 turned his face to the wall.Mark 14:35"fell on the ground and prayed"Many verse has only the word"prayed",without mention of what position.I don't see an explicit way in scripture because obviously some people are unable to kneel, stand, sit, fall on the ground, etc. The physical ability would dictate how.
• Irene123
mr Monday- you can position your body in prayer however you are able or want to. I Amos 75 and cannot kneel, so I just sit. To kneel is an act of humility, but it's our hearts that are humbled BEFORE we kneel. And it's our hearts He searches.
• Mr monday
what are we supposed to do when praying. Are supposed to kneel, stand , walk or sit when praying.

We cannot run from the presents of God,,no matter where we goes he is with us,he prepared the whale to shallow Jonah for a reason....the city of Nineveh had to heard the warning and as angry as Jonah was he had to delivers it.

It pays to be obedient to the word of the Lord

15 Jonah s death foreshadows the Lord Jesus Christ: So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea. And the sea ceased from her ragging Jonah s death, is the only thing which can save the sailors from their death. The sailors tried every device they knew. They cast all their wares overboard in an effort to lighten the ship and in that way save themselves. Then even after Jonah had told them that he must be cast overboard, they still insisted upon rowing hard, in the hope that they might by their own works of labor make the death of the substitute unnecessary. But all of it failed, and they had to come to the place where they were willing to accept the death of another if they were to be saved. There is no salvation apart from the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Yet instead men still seek to save themselves through their own works.

Jonah 1:3 Jonah attempts the impossible, to flee from God s presence. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. The Devil had a ship all ready and waiting for Jonah. He even saw to it that Jonah had the price of a ticket for he paid the fare thereof Satan Himself will make it easy for you to go into the opposite direction from which the Lord is calling you.

2 The Command of God: The Word of the Lord came unto Jonah saying Arise, go to Nineveh, that great City, and cry against it for their wickedness is come up before me God orders Jonah his prophet to proceed to Nineveh and preach against the cities wickedness. Now if I new that you had a deadly disease and I had in my possession the remedy to cure you, but did nothing about it what would you think of me. There are many Christians who believe the Bible, who know men are lost, who know there is an eternal Hell, and fail to warn the Lost.

Amazed at the time it took Jonah to get to the city. He took a three day journey and turned it into 1. Amazing! the burden was heavy especially after spending such time in the whale praying and seeking God.
• Jean
Sincere repentance can change The Lord 's Jesus Christ mind.
• Pastor Clarence Watts Sr.
Jonah was a man of God.He knew that he couldn 't run or hide from The Lord.Jonah 's sin was Passing Judgment on the people. To the point of Refusing to Pray for the people...Like So many people today..Have already passed judgment on someone..For whatever reson saying that a person is Beyond hope. The Bible is clear on this matter Judge not that ye be not judged.
• John madden for verse 1
When god speaks once it should ve enough to obey but jonah delayed in obeying it caused him some sorrow but he did learn more about god and himself.his delay did not thawart the purposes of god on which he had for the people to repent
• Stephen
To "repent " means literally to "turn around. " God already knew that the people of Nineveh were going to "turn around " from their sin, and so our merciful God "turned around " from His proclamation of judgment against them. Jesus said that those who do not believe in Him are "condemned already " -- John 3:18. Yet if anyone will believe in Him, God will "turn " that condemnation "around " and he will NOT be condemned -- also in John 3:18.

Nineveh must be involved in war as God told Jonah, Peace, to preach to it. God wants the conflict to end. Verse 4, Nineveh is given word of their upcoming destruction in 40 days if they fail to stop fighting. Verse 6, when a king lays his robe off his shoulders represents stepping down as ruler. He sits in ashes because the time of his leadership is at an end. Symbolically to not eat or consume, meaning to fast, means to stop killing which is a time of cease fire. So to fast can have both literal and a symbolic military meaning. Verse 9, a peace treaty is to be agreed upon and the king is uncertain of the terms of peace and how they will affect his country. Verse 10, the planned destruction of Nineveh in verse 4 is now stopped as Nineveh has ceased to fight.
• Jonah had to have God given courage to go into the city of Nineveh alone and deliver such a strong message. This shows that even if we feel alone or that we can not do something, with Jehovah God 's help we can.
• Prophetess Nicola
At times all we need is a warning from God. The people of Nineveh did hear the word of God and repented, preventing destruction from coming up on them. The mercy of God is so deep. God did not lie but because the people repented and God spared them.
• Motdaugrnds
This was an example of the situation Jesus would be in following His crucifixion. Jesus told all, if His body was destroyed, He would rise in 3 days.
• Eventually, Nineveh felt the powerful judgment of God as proclaimed by the prophet Nahum 150 years later. But three to four generations benefited from this great revival at Jonah s time. We must cry mightily unto God as the people of Nineveh did Jonah 3:8
