First and foremost, Jesus declared that his disciples believed that He came out of the Father (God), and was sent by HIM. He prayed that they should be one (metaphorically, not literally), as He and the Father are one in purpose and design, therefore there is no three persons (in) one God, but three persons (of) one God.

Greetings from God our Father and from our Lord Jesus the Christ of God. There are several things that our Lord Jesus wanted us to believe:
    1. to believe that God did send him,
    2. that He wanted us to be one with each other like He is One with God. Wait a minute, how can I invade my brothers body to be one, could it be that Jesus meant to be in (one accord) meaning no disagreements, to flow as if we are on? I believe that is exactly what He means. He came to do the perfect will of The Father and not His will. He always glorified God and not Himself, He wants all glory for His and our Father in this way He is glorified. Every word that Jesus said was the message that God wanted Him to deliver onto us. His plea was for us to believe that "He did send Me". It was the intent of God to put His Christ through the torment and punishment of the Cross for the sins of all man. Just think of the Love that our Father has for us that He would give His only Son to suffer and die for us. Father Abraham displayed a love that God loved in that Abraham proved obedience and love that God had not seen in other humans. That is what Jesus tells us that we should love God with everything about us above everything else, that is pleasing to Him. There is so much to write about but I will ask you, in that day when Jesus returns many will say "Lord we casted out devils and cured the sick in your name" and He answers and says to them" Get away from me, I never knew you! How is that possible if they did things in His name? Seek for the answer from a truly good friend, mine is Jesus the Anointed One of God. Have a beautiful life in Him.

The revelation came to me this morning, that Jesus, as the second Adam, the quickening Spirit, desired to be made one in his body with the Father as he was in the Spirit before he took on flesh ( John 1:1-4, 12-16; Hebrews 10:5,7), so that we Gentiles (as believers) could enter into the Kingdom of God in his Glorified Body according to Acts 2:38, and be glorified in the Rapture ( Philippians 3:21). This is "Wonderful News." I am in the Glorified Body of Christ, Expectedly waiting for my glorified body in the rapture. Thank God for including me, a Gentile, in the blessings of Abraham's SEED; Jesus, the Christ!

The greatest thing that every believer should aspire to see is Christs fullness even His glory! Thank God that Christ Himself prayed for us to the Father that we may behold it. May His glory be our experience everyday of our walk with our master and savior Jesus Christ.
  • Larry wilson on John 17 - 11 years ago
Jesus is God....in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was GOD.
  • Aurora on John 17 - 11 years ago
Why is God's name, YHWH JEHOVAH, eliminated? It is in the King James hard copy!
  • John Guntoro on John 17 - 11 years ago
I am really respect to Jesus and how he pray to tell his Father to save the people by giving them the eternal life.
    What is the eternal life?
The eternal life is to know him, the only true GOD and to know JESUS CHRIST the one who sent.

Jesus also praying for everyone else who will have faith because of what his disciples will say about him.

Too deep to be understood and too large to be kept, but too fool to be forgotten...

Thanks LORD Jesus, you teach me the sincere prayer and give me the conviction... Amen

Jesus is performing his high priestly role, and is praying to the father because they are one. He is about to go to the cross, and fulfill the manifest destiny for coming into the world as the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. He is truth, and the word is truth so he prays that his disciples will be kept from the evil one, and that none would be lost. The whole law of God is to love the LORD with all our heart, mind, soul, and strenght. The second command is to love thy neighbor as thyself. Jesus said a new command I give unto you is to love one another as I have loved you. Thank God that the father only knows when the hour of the second coming will be, yet he told us we could know when it would be near even at the door. As Jesus said tarry ye until ye shall receive power from the Holy Spirit. We must be witnesses until he comes again, and warn others that God is not willing that any should perish, but that all will come to repentance. We should count the patience of God as salvation. Just as God warned Noah to buld an ark for the saving of his house, we are to tell other to receive Jesus Christ to save their soul from the coming judgement upon the whole world. It took Noah 120 years to build the ark, and after everyone was in it God waited seven days. Then God shut the door. So shall it be when the son of man returns again.

John 4:23, 24) Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for, indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him. 24God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth.
    king james bible
23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

look it up maybe that helps and you wont be soo confused

Matthew 24:36) Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.if he would be god wouldn.t he know when that day is??????
( Psalm 83:18) That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth.
Matthew 22:37) He said to him: You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. ( was he talking about himself????

  • Manaka Thabo Ronny on John 17 - 12 years ago
Jahweh is the old testament covenant name for God(Ex6v2-3), Jesus(Jahshua) is the new testament covenant name for our God, it is written "...you shall call his name Jesus, for He shall save his people from their sins."Mt1v18-21, There is no other name under heaven except the name of Jesus(Acts4v10-12). Truly Jahweh of the old testament is Jesus of the new testament, the same God all the way only in flesh this time.
  • Jeremy on John 17 - 12 years ago
Yes God does have a specific Name .It is Yahweh or Jehovah which are derived from the tetragrammaton YHWH which are actually the Hebrew letters yod, hey, vav, heh (hebrew reads from right to left)This name was given to Moses when he asked God in Exodus who should he say had sent him .Hope this helps
  • Tina on John 17 - 12 years ago
God's name was presented in Jesus' character! There is no specific name for God. Love, patience kindness, all the good stuff..that is Gods name, that is how we identify Him.
  • Abraham on John 17 - 12 years ago
Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords he also said if we dnt have the spirit of Christ we are none of his we all have 2 seek the lord with our hold hearts cuz we can not get 2 the father only through his son n the because of salvation that given free 2 us because Jesus paid the price for us that we may have life

Chapter 17 Fill me with HOPE in the gospel for the present & future, Because I know and am Confident that the Father hears and answers all the prayers of His Son on my behalf, yours as-well, do you agree?
  • Ben weaver on John 17:21 - 13 years ago
    V. 21. This may be the only recorded Lord's prayer for his church. He travails to God for us (believers) to be unified as one body as He and the Father are one, so that the world may believe that the Father sent Jesus. He was about to pay the ultimate price to restore us to God, and it seems that the oneness of believers was the key to the world believing. Have our religious divisions hindered the world from receiving God's grace provision? Let's practice our unity in Jesus and allow Him to disolve those differences. Religion is most often enemy to the cross of Christ; It crucified the Savior.
  • Ann on John 17:9 - 13 years ago
I believe that John 17:9-10 is connected with I Timothy 2:4, the key word in both passages is all.
  • Ben Weaver on John 17:21 - 13 years ago
The PEOPLES BIBLE above says it so well. Too often, our cultured biases seem more important to us than our unity in Christ. If only we would differentiate between life in Jesus and religion, and live it out, our world would be more attracted to Jesus. Love ya!
  • Wyndham on John 17 - 13 years ago
John 17 reveals the depth, the height, and the width of God's love for us. It is the most awesome Divine manifestation of God's love for us, which is personified in His Son Our Lord Jesus The Christ. The entire Divine Plan of Salvation is revealed in this Most Holy words of Scripture. I tremble when I read it.
  • Leo on John 17 - 13 years ago
The name of God is manefested in our hearts for our witness of Him to be shown to others that are called, not to bring recognition to our selves, but to bring glory to Him, not to be pridefull for knowing mens doctrines, but humbly love our saviour for giving us access to Heavenly Father.
  • Anonymous on John 17 - 13 years ago
JESUS was praying directly to GOD, the FATHER, as the SON. "That they all may be one, as thou Father art in mee, and I in thee, that they also may bee one in vs: that the world may beleeue that thou hast sent mee." That is why HE didn't mention the Name of GOD.
  • Joe on John 17 - 13 years ago
Notice that Jesus made God's name made known in verse 6. It is sad that many translations have taken out God's name, which is JEHOVAH. They say that his name is too divine to repeat. Yet Jesus apparently said it then.
  • Leo on John 17 - 13 years ago
i believe many people were used as an example of Gods kingdom, such as Jobs children that satan had distroy, and those who don't get called by Him. Thats why we shouldn't feed whats holy to dogs, but those who are called
  • Bless on John 17 - 13 years ago
This fervent prayer of Jesus Christ tells us that true worshipers of God and his followers might be object of hatred in all nations because they fulfill all that he commissioned them to do, more so in proclaiming the Divine Name of God- Jehovah, but many rejected.(see John 17:6,14,26
  • Leo on John 17 - 13 years ago
listening to His prayer brings great hope for the believer to know He is with us and we are with Him where He resides. So as we walk in this world we are also walking in His world with the Father
  • Louise on John 17 - 14 years ago
Why did't Jesus mention the name of God. There are many controversaies of what Gods actual name is.
