I believe God only sees two types of people on the earth. Those that know Him and those that don't know him. We that know Him truly have His Holy Spirit living within us. Because of His grace and Jesus sacrifice on the cross, we have God himself living within our spirits in this fleshly body. This transcends all the wall we have built and the labels and contentions over essentially trivial details of our different belief systems. If you know Jesus, you and I are one. We will never agree on everything. We both will never be totally correct in how we believe and worship, but when this flesh and our carnal minds are finally stripped away, what is left is pure. Just as God in the old testament called all men Adam, when he looks at us he sees Jesus.
  • Thomas Spivey on John 17 - 8 years ago
Ask yourself one question, does the Father hear and answer Jesus when He prays? If so then you can rest in this knowlage. His prayer basically covers all who simply except and believe he is praying for you and not just you alone. This is the key to entering God 's Rest.BELIEVE IT!
  • Victor Stevens-Rosenberg on John 17:3 - 8 years ago
John 17:3 reveals a truth couched in simplicity, that, knowing Jesus is, the way, the truth and the life, and knowing 'about ' Jesus is not. Fans of Jesus know a lot about Him. I know Jesus personally as constant companion, the friend I worship. Knowing Jesus personally is how He transforms us on our walk through this life with Him. Matthew 7:23-24 is a companion scripture to John 17:3 because when we read Jesus telling the religious person, and I paraphrase, to get away from Him, that He never knew them, He is also saying to them, go away, you never knew Me. Shalom

And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them. John 17 summarizes that as Jesus is so we ought to be. 'As Jesus is so are we '. So by his grace we grow to be more like Him in everyday of our Chritian walk as we claim, posses and live these prayers.
  • Lilian on John 17 - 8 years ago
Our Heavenly Father provided us his Son Jesus Christ because of his love John 3:16. Our job now is to believe Jesus as the Son of the Living God who have redeemed us on the cross in order for us to be saved and have life in abundance. Jesus himself is a word of God. Therefore we must believe his words and keep his commandments. Jesus is given us a chance to read the Bible and to listen to his words in the Church everyday. Jesus words are given for us to believe not to understand. Jesus loves us and he is faithful to his promises that he will never ever leave us nor foresake us. Jesus is guiding us to the living water as it was a commanded by our Father. We must be Born Again in Spirit and invite the Holy Spirit to dwell in us. Without Christ we cant do anything. All things are possible with Christ . Amen
  • THOMAS on John 17 - 9 years ago
Amen to Kevin, he hit the nail on the head. Satan the great adversary of our souls wants us to be distracted. Satan will use your own biases to get you off the main message that Christ came into the world to save sinners. Brother Kevin gets it exactly right. God speed Kevin.

All, It is such a blessing to see all the comments and sense the excitement of many of you. I want to take the opportunity to encourage all to focus on the only viable point of many thousands of years of scripture. We cannot please God without understanding we are all sinners and need the provision of the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus. There are differences of opinions - Trinity or not, works vs grace, baptize or not, gift still in operation. Paul advises us to not argue over these issues, either we believe John 3:16 or we do not. Satan wants us to focus on secondary issues as opposed to spreading the Gospel. To encourage a younger Christian by revealing scripture is correct however please focus on building up rather than disputing doctrines that at the end of the day may create divisions and discourage younger folks. As we mature in Christ, the Holy Spirit is fully capable of giving us better understanding, like Paul said, when I became a man I put away childish things.

Cox, Do you not remember where, while on the cross, Jesus said "Into Thy hands I commit my spirit. " We must rightly divide the Scriptures, comparing parts of it with other parts of it so as not to be mislead. The Scriptures will always rightly interpret themselves.
  • Cox siansanda on John 17 - 9 years ago
according john17:11 and 13 our lord jesus christ had long left his physical body before his arest and crusifiction. jesus said "iam no more in this world " and he further said in v.13 "now i come to thee " he never said i will come after my crusifiction and death. if we take letral meaning of these two vs its clear that his spiritual being had long left before his arest and crusifiction. meaning if we can have letral faith in the word we can move mountains. amen.

This is a perfect example of what our prayers need to be like so as to strengthen and encourage our loving relationship with the Father as well as with each other.
  • Adelle on John 17 - 9 years ago
As Jesus is about to go to the cross to die and shed his precious blood for the sins of the world, He prayed for His disciples and those who had believed on Him, then he prayed for those who WOULD believe on Him. That is US! He is like a father making sure His children are provided for after he is gone. What a Mighty God we serve. Angels bow before Him, heaven and earth adore Him. What a Mighty God we serve!
  • Daniel wright on John 17 - 9 years ago

  • Elder Rod on John 17 - 9 years ago
John 17 records the prayer of Jesus in which He declares His power over "all flesh " aka the human body. His declaration of "Eternal life " in regards to "all flesh " denotes the institution of immortality upon mankind. However, it takes unwavering, doubtless, faith for mortal humans to manifest this blessed state of being. Jesus said, "My Word shall not pass away " subsequently anyone who abides in His Word "without doubt " can literally manifest the Heavenly proclamation, "he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. " Literal immortality is the sole benefit of the saints of Christ that are "alive and remain " at His second coming. This group of believers will ascend into Heaven without experiencing physical death. Like the blind man who received his sight, and the lame man that "picked up his bed " and walked, the remnant of saints His second coming will literally be the answer to Jesus ' prayer recorded in John 17. Total "oneness " is obtainable for anyone who manifest in the flesh the prayer of Jesus "to as many as thou hast given him. "

  • Grant on John 17 - 9 years ago
Not one of the explanations of verse John17 11 addresses who Jesus was talking about. They all say that Jesus and the father are one, but one what? Remember,Jesus said "they are one just as we are one ". Does that mean that "they " are God too because Jesus is God? Of course not. Jesus is saying here that "they " are of one belief, just as Jesus and rof one belief.Trinitarians will use the scripture to support their trinity therory.
  • Dean on John 17 - 9 years ago
Verse 11 brings out the oneness of God "...Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. " that is that Jesus is God the Father in human form.
  • Kavitha on John 17:3 - 9 years ago
here clearly we can understand,17th chapter 1st and second word shows Jesus Christ is directly talking with his father,3rd scripture observe we can clearly understanding Jesus Christ is glorifying His Father. He is saying clearly you have sent me. So here is the meaning when we accept our Heavenly Father is only one God,and Jesus Christ is son of God then only we can get eternal life.
  • Osmund Akpanyung on John 17 - 9 years ago
Jesus prays to God for our sanctification. He asks God not to take us away from the world but to sanctify us through the word. When we are sanctified and live a holy life, we have joy and peace and be protected to serve God through our Lord Jesus Christ in spirit and in truth.
  • Barbara on John 17:5 - 9 years ago

  • Darryl Moore on John 17:14 - 9 years ago
This verse helps me out alot, about five years ago God called me to the ministry to preach.Since then there have been people who hate me and talk against me, for no reason. It still bothers me but anyone who is live right will suffer pursecution. The bible said so. But it also says when we suffer with him we will also reign with him. Be Blessed.
