It would serve Tunji well to prove scripture with Scripture. Start with tha account of Pentacost in Acts. Also note that unlike Tunji 's post, the word "Comforter " found in Jn 16 is spelled with an upper case C. The same as Spirit in Rm 8 where Paul uses the term Holy Spirit a great number of times. Since Christ death on the cross there haven 't been, nor will there be prophets. Biblical prophets were forthtellers of the living gospel Jesus Christ. The purpose of the Comforter is plainly plainly stated in verses Jn 16 8 11. Plainly stated throughout scripture, concerning judgement, is that judgement is reserved for God, and God alone. If you believe that God, Son, and Spirit are one, then you can easily see the error in Tunji 's premise. If you do not believe this, you do not have the Spirit of God in you , and can not discerned the truth of Gods word. Prove it all out with Scripture. Never believe anything you see written by man without first holding it up to the light of Gods word.
  • Tunji on John 16 - 9 years ago
Let 's review verses 7 to 13. Jesus was explicit here. He said it is expedient he leaves for the comforter to come and he will not speak for himself but what he hears and show you what shall come. He will speak all the truth. This is definitely not about holy spirit but a prophet coming to deliver God 's words.
  • V.E. Perkins, Ph.D. on John 16:33 - 9 years ago
We are fortunate to have this saying of Jesus because it reminds us that, in the midst of our greatest difficulties, He is with us to overcome them. He is able to do so because He overcame them in His own experiences as He lived here, facing lies, persecutions, and abandonment in the end by his own 'friends. ' There is no tribulation that I can face that will, in the end, be any worse than His therefore, I can have peace, knowing that in Him I can overcome any adversity.
  • Becky on John 16:8 - 9 years ago
The Holy Spirit speaks to us because of our salvation by faith in Jesus Christ the Messiah. We are no longer in darkness. The Holy Spirit guides us to walk with God, by reminding us to turn away from a life of sin.
  • Becky on John 16:13 - 9 years ago
Nope Naser that is not it at all, this is a book of the BIble not a book of the Quran. This entire book speaks about Jesus, his life and his being the fulfillment of the prophecies of the Messiah. Muhammad was a non believer.
  • Moses Njenga on John 16:33 - 9 years ago
Man shall not live by bread alone but by every WORD. satan is the god of this world and he never sleeps likes some Christian. With Christ on our side we are more than conquerors cause HE was tested but HE sinned not!

I agree with Olabode. It is only through Jesus that we can have peace and overcome all the troubles that will come our way.
  • Blessed on John 16 - 9 years ago
The love of GOD is way beyond anything we could imagine. GOD so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. GOD LOVES US. verse 27 is a confirmation of his love. It 's not from what we do. It 's from who we believe JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD. The new testament of GODS love. That we can live because JESUS IS LIFE. SIN IS DEATH. JESUS IS THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD.
  • MockingBird on John 16:33 - 9 years ago
In Jesus His word I find peace . Peace is an undisturbed being . Although from time to time I face disturbing situations conditions I can always find rest and contentment in my Lord Jesus Christ. I am in the world but I am not of the world. God called me out of the world . I am in His kingdom now. Although I am in this world I face tribulation at times When I go through those times I find peace in Jesus. Jesus said I have overcome the world. and to be of good cheer.
  • Olabode on John 16:33 - 9 years ago
The world is full of evil things such as trials, problems, challenges, oppressions, difficulties, etc. The only one that can give us victory peace over all aforementioned problems is JESUS. He came to destroy the works of the devil, so that you and i shall be set free from the camp of the devil.

The question is about john 16 13.why Not speak of himself,if truth is about him
  • Anthony on John 16:26 - 9 years ago
John 16 26 God Demands Spiritual DEVELOPMENT. In 2001 I asked The Lord why He expected so much of me while most Ministers were blessed while keeping congressional kindergarten teaching style. That night He appeared and Pointed toward a Mass of Blazing Light. He was Blazing equally Bright as the Mass of Light The Father . It was obvious that He EXPECTS me to Ask The Father and to Boldly step into that Blazing Mass, Our Heavenly Father. Otherwise we never become Sons of God, we remain Little Spoon Fed Babies.
  • Rev. Autrey on John 16:24 - 9 years ago
The fact that Jesus is the God Abraham and the prophets prayed to is proven by what Jesus said in John 16, verses 23 and 24, 'At that time you won 't need to ask me for anything. The truth is, you can go directly to the Father and ask him, and he will grant your request because you use my name. You haven 't done this before. ... ' Do you see the point? Jesus was saying to the disciples that they had never prayed to the Father because no one in the Old Testament was aware of his existence. All they knew of God was his one personality, YHWH JESUS. But early in his ministry Jesus introduces them to the existence of God 's two other personalities, the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus said to Nicodemus, I assure you, I am telling you what WE know and have seen, and yet you won 't believe US. Then in John 14, 15, and 16 Jesus tells us about the work of the Father and the Holy Spirit. What I am saying is, there is only one God, and he is one entity. But this entity has three distinct self expressions that we call persons. The Father is the way God directs his affairs. The Holy Spirit is the way God inspires us to believe. But God always always speaks to us as Jesus. If you have trouble understanding this, please ask the Holy Spirit to help you. May God bless you always!

This scripture came to me yesterday May 26 . Just been meditating on it and the promises of God.
  • Rev. Autrey on John 16 - 9 years ago
Verses 13 14 "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not be presenting his own ideas, he will be telling you what he has heard. ... He will bring me glory by revealing to you whatever he recieves from me. " The Holy Spirit is God imspiring us to believe in what he is doing as Jesus. That 's why Jesus said he does not come with a new idea or a message of his own. He only says to us what Jesus has said, and he leads us to understand it. He is called the Comforter because his message leads us to understand Jesus ' words and gives us comfort in knowing that Jesus as God has come to save us from sin. So for this reason, we should not try to place the Holy Spirit ahead of Jesus, or try to say that the Holy Spirit now leads us instead of Jesus. I repeat, the Holy Spirit is sent to help us to understand Jesus, not to replace Jesus as our leader. This is a dangerous teaching now being presented in some Christian circles, and will only lead to many falling away from Christ. I hope that this brief article will correct this. May God always be with you!

  • Jonathan on John 16:24 - 9 years ago
I often if I should take this scripture literally. I feel like there is a "catch " to this verse. The catch being, even if I ask for something, there is no mention when I will receive it. It could be minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years. If I am unemployed and ask for a job, do I have years to wait for that prayer to be answered? That has happened to me. I lost everything in the process of waiting to get a job. I was applying to jobs daily.

Jesus was a prophet but, oh so much more than just a prophet!!! He is the very God of the universe who through the virgin birth took on the flesh of man, and gave eternal life to whosoever will. Unless you believe He was Him the God of Gory ye shall die in your sins. HIS NAME IS JESUS. father, son, Holy Ghost

I think if you understand the history of the bible, understand the many books it was to comprise and the people who would have written them, you should consider the following with an open mind if God wills it. In John, which speaks of the 'Comforter ' is referring to a person, it is of a prophets to come, it tells us there will be words not if his own, words which he will hear, the words which he will pass onto the followers. If you dont see it or agree then understand it could be that our Lord hasn 't permitted you to hear the truth. Understand that since the first scriptures passed down from generation to generation the devil and man has been permitted and can be influenced to deceive the people in order to test the people. understand some scriptures habe lost the exact statements and editing has occured over the generations which can mislead in translation. What is the truth, the paragraph refers to a person, a person who may possibly be filled with the holy spirit, i dont know its not clear, but it is a person. If you haven 't realised who the person is yet, then keep searching for the truth because your time is being tested as well and God willing your eyes ears are opened to realise who that person. The answers are there if you look.

Jesus is the Son of God,not a prophet. John 16 23 you will see He refers to His Father and again in John16 13 to the Spirit of Truth who will come after Him.Paul Smart needs to read all the verses, instead of one verse here and there ans coming to wrong conclusions

John 16:33 to me means that in a uncomfortable situation which happens every day in the world that no matter what when i call on Jesus and lean on him and trust in him i can rejoice for he has overcome the world and i can continue to wait on him and serve him and i can watch him work me thru it all and glorify him and all will see. When we have trpals that is when my father gets to shine.
  • Paul smart on John 16:10 - 10 years ago
I belive that this verse tells us that the Jesus who lived 2,000 years ago was a prophet, and if you read further in the Bible you read where Jesus talks about one coming after him.

  • James on John 16:33 - 10 years ago
In my opinion, these are the most powerful words ever written. He's only asking us to 'Cheer up!
He has done the rest,..This man (and the ONLY man who could even begin to speak these words 'I have overcome the World' and it be true!) wants us to stay in good cheer, no matter how bad our individual world gets, just remember he has paid the price for us! So, we are the lucky ones, stay in good cheer my friends, the price has been paid. The Kingdom awaits us.
