John 14:20 "At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you." I once heard it explained how we cannot understand God's thoughts and His ways, any more than a sparrow can understand our breakfast. I don't know quite what a sparrow knows or doesn't know but I think the part about us is pretty true. At best and there have been some extremely brilliant and wise men among the LORD's Princes till we get there we will only ever be able to see or know in part, and at best, with a good deal of obscurity, just because of our humiliated condition and nature. So the things that the LORD has said to us, that we know right away as soon as we read or hear them, are too high for our little "bird brains " one day, IF we make it safe and sound and endure true and faithful to the end we will know even as we ourselves are also known and we will see face to face, all that we for the now hope for in faith.

Everything that God created including us was for His pleasure! The question remains, are we pleasing to Him? Selah

It was clear to see that Jesus had God's spirit in him and today it should be evident who has God's spirit in them by the godly qualities they display.

I like reading chapter 14 it gives me much confidence and I feel at peace when I'm feeling down and sad. I know God is there for us all and that's why he has given us encouragement to comfort us in our time of need. Thank-you

Several notable Words of Christ in this Chapter. Here are some "I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it."

Wayne; There is more than just one reason for tongues; and it is of the Spirit how they are to be used. It is a sign, Yes! but shall not the unbeliever say you are mad, when they hear you speaking in tongues? It is also, and more importantly, the Spirit interceding, and for the building up of things in the Spirit, including the one praying in tongues. We should speak of things that we know!
  • Wayne on John 14 - 6 years ago
Speaking in another language is for the hearer. Speaking in another language is a sign to the unbeliever, not the believer.
  • A disciple on John 14 - 6 years ago
"I will pray in the Spirit; and I will pray with my understanding" The Spirit makes intercessions according to the will of God, and builds up the spiritual strength of the one praying in the Spirit. Many who don't really know, just repeat what they heard from others, and keep themselves from receiving the Blessing. In the beginning, speaking in tongues WAS THE SIGN of having received the Spirit!

Tongues is not the only evidence that the Holy Spirit is present in ones life. The other spiritual gifts are evidenced by the Holy Spirit's work.Paul said he is glad he speaks tongue more that the others so they will have other gifts that are more helpful and edifying.Tongues is for the unbelievers to hear. Paul is not saying tongues is the best gift. Read chapter.

Jesus promised us that he will prepare a place for us in heaven, a place that we erased from our spirit and soul because the rebellion and disobedience that took place when the Devil was once thrown out from heaven along with everybody to this earth for a Test to find out who is going to follow evil or our CREATOR. When he return to separate and clean out his house the place that prepared has all the rules and regulations that has to be followed in the kingdom of heaven this is a parallel similar what happen in the kingdoms of earth and every country has it's own language , culture its own regulations and laws and citizens has to live by those standards. God never hide mysteries from man, but our rebellious attitude put us apart from HIM and the understanding of the kingdom of heaven but through JESUS CHRIST we have access to that beginning.

Dee, I am sorry if my comments have caused you distress. I assure you I am not distracted by Satan. I am focused on His word when I give scripture to answer questions, or help someone with scripture. (I acknowledge him in all my ways. Proverbs 3:5-6.) V.7 "Be not wise in thine own eyes, fear the Lord, and depart from evil."

I love this whole part when the Lord Jesus talks with the twelve at the Last Supper: so very important for us to know. In these pages (Ch.13-17) is described all our commission from Him, and all that we are to expect till He returns. What especially stands out to me is how the Holy Spirit dwelling in us is the One who convicts, teaches, speaks; we are the vessels through which God seeks the lost.

Thank you Jesus for the blood you shed for us and thank you for the ascension into heaven that you have sent another comforter our Father God who will abide in me forever thank you Father for being with me and for loving me even i couldn't love myself praise you Jesus and I will love you forever amen
  • Dee on John 14 - 6 years ago
Spending so much time debating Gods word among one another is a trick of the enemy. He keeps us distracted by getting us to argue and debate what "we" think Gods word is saying. But instead we are to take it to God, ask and seek Him for the wisdom and understanding to know His word and what it holds for us....

One of hundreds of Life changing promises Jesus gave all, inspiring us to follow and rejoice in His gift of living with us and with Our Heavenly Father.

Bruce, John 14:26.Be at peace.V.27"Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Be courageous. Luke 12:4-5 Jesus warns us to Fear the Lord with terror, because he has power to cast us into the lake of fire that you preach.Could the "fearful" be someone that does not have the courage to tell others about Christ?Or have Christ like courage during times of testing;trials, temptations.?

    V. 15 - Pas. Norm Paslay - Being a Christian is less about cautiously avoiding sin than about courageously doing God's will.
We are great sinners, but He is a greater savior.
Far too many parents are more interested in their kids making the team, than in making the Kingdom of God.

123,the Father is greater than the son. V.28. Also, the Sons throne is in the Father's throne. Is the Father "beside Himself"?

"..if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." What the Lord has begun, He will not rest till He has completed. You who are the delight of His eyes, and the joy of His heart; howsoever the enemy and his minions roar and threaten us, Jesus is still at the right hand of God, and the day of vengeance is in His heart!
  • Nancy on John 14 - 7 years ago
Continue, The Father, by cultivating the Son works Himself with all His riches into the vine and eventually the vine expresses the Father in a corporate way through His branches. The Fathers economy in the Universe. When we abide in the Lord and His words abide in us, we actually are one with Him and He works within us.Than when we ask in prayer for whatever we will, it is not only we who are pray.
  • Arnold Ventanilla on John 14 - 7 years ago
The worldly concept of peace is an absence of war. During the time when the Lord Jesus Christ earthly ministry, Israel is under the colonization of Roman Empire and wars are eminent during that time and people of Israel wants peace and security and longing for the promise Messianic king to deliver them from Roman Empire and have peace in their promised land. Jesus Christ is giving them assurance that the peace He is offering is more than the peace they are expecting. An inward peace that surpasses logical understanding. Peace that comes from the Father in heaven is not the absence of chaos and wars, but the absence of fear. If you fear for something, like losing job, losing someone you love, losing security, losing something important, losing the battle, then you don't have peace in your heart. The peace what the Lord Jesus Christ offers is the complete TRUST in Him, having the full confidence that no matter what you will not have fear because He is control of your life and everything.
  • Irene123 on John 14 - 7 years ago
    V. 9 - " ..... he that hath seen me HATH seen the Father ..... "; Jesus didn't say, I am LIKE the Father, He said I am the Father, Jn. 1:14; ! Tim. 3:16.
  • A disciple on John 14 - 7 years ago
"Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it suffices us." Now Philip had seen all the Lord's works of power; had heard His teaching, and His wisdom and understanding; he had been with Jesus constantly for about three and a half years, and had studied His face, and His whole nature and character daily being with Him and the other Apostles. Does he now still need more? Do we still also?
  • Nathan Mapombere on John 14 - 7 years ago
For the past year or so, I have faced challenges that almost drained all peace and joy from me. Even today, the odds against me financially are phenomenal, I have not managed to settle the university fees bill for my daughter in Moscow, talking within the home is strained, scarce and harsh, I am not working, things are just rough. Notwithstanding these hardships, the verse John 14:27 is just the right verse for me. I instantly received the peace that Jesus my Savior speaks of. The joy is returned, not joy in the hardships and challenges but peace and joy from Jesus my Lord. Thank you for the peace and the joy Lord, be exalted forever, and with this peace comes breakthroughs in all the areas of my life. If hardships had tried to destroy the peace in me, and since the peace has returned, the hardships are being destroyed effectively, one after the other. I now understand that peace is a warrior against all manner of challenges - Amen, in Jesus' Name.
