For the law was given by Moses, [but] grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. J-1-17

Under the law we have the rules of self discipline, needed to live in harmony with each other, in God’s laws of perfection and protection. In this mankind, learns to be orderly, and without sin, Self respect, and respect of others purity, and holiness is law. Living under the idolatry of Adam and Eve it is a process of knowing and living the high ethical standards of the law.

Jesus gave us the light of Truth, in order to find our way out of idolatry, through reformation, salvation, and restoration. In this we learn the Oracles of God, and are saved from idolatry. This assures us of our return to our place in the atmosphere of heaven. Where we can live under free will, and know the Love of our Father. Angels do God’s bidding, but have no free will. Jesus say’s we are higher than the angels. In this we have the privilege of being the sons and daughters of God, forever basked in His Holy presence, and blessings.
For the law was given by Moses, [but] grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

If the bible says the word was God then the word was God....let's clear that up for those who make it hard and don't understand ...... Jesus is God. Yes ... If he wasn't he would not be sinless and take away any sin. Beside people I don't know anybody that can walk on water and raise the dead if they were not God. Besides why would we put are trust in just a man to take away are sins??? He had to be God or were in trouble!! The fact that he is God , he still to this day can change lives. See YouTube for my testimony: testimony of Julio Garcia. Thanks people for your common sence thinking

Please have a look at Psalms 83:18 ... what is the name of the only true God?
  • Hans
    Just something to think about:

Did God became human in Jesus?

God said to Mozes: You are not able to see my face, because no man may see me and yet live.(Exodus 33:20) Thousands of people did see Jesus but did not die because of seeing him. But if he was God, people would die seeing him.

Many say Jesus, the SON of God, is God too….the apostle Paul said there is only one God, THE FATHER, no God the son, no God the holy spirit…

1 Corinthians 8:4-6: Now concerning the eating of foods offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one. For even though there are those who are called “gods,” whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,” there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and we through him.

Jesus was praying to his Father and asking Him to guard His people, he said:
Also, I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world and I am coming to you. Holy Father, watch over them on account of your own name which you have given me, in order that they may be one just as we are. John 17:11
Jesus asked if his followers would be one as God and Jesus are one. If God and Jesus are 1 in person, was Jesus praying that his disciples would become 1 person?

Like Adam and Eve … they became 1 flesh (Genesis 2:24) …. Does this mean they would become 1 person?

Philippians 2:5,6: Keep this mental attitude in YOU that was also in Christ Jesus, who, although he was existing in God’s form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God.

Does this verse show that Jesus was equal to God or did he not want to be equal to God...
  • Millard for verse 1
In the beginning was the Word- God the Omnipresence Spirit existed before his creation
(Jn.4:24) God is a Spirit:- and the Word was with
God and the Word was God. God existed before the creation. He was called the Word of God. (Jn.1:14)
and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.
God became a man. (Mat.1:23) Behold a virgin shall
be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel being interpreted, is God with us. (Mat.1:21) And she shall bring fort a son and thou shall call his name Jesus. Jesus is the Word. Jesus is the Word that became flesh. Jesus is Emmanuel God with us.
Jesus is the son that was brought forth. Jesus is God. Jesus is his name.

John speaks of Jesus as the creator and sustainer of all life on Earth and Heaven. It goes together with Matt 28:18- "All power in heaven and earth has been given to me." As Christians this should give us utmost confidence in this life that Jesus has all power and authority and controls all circumstances.

Was God himself in human flesh? Is God limited to being 3 persons-trinity? I suppose that we, being sons and daughters of God by faith in the divine Savior Jesus Christ, might still be trying to frame the supernatural realities to fit into our limited earthly dimentions. In Jn. 4:24, Jesus said "God is spirit". The divine Spirit can hardly be framed into our number system as being trinity, because He is actualy everywhere. Jesus, in a spirit sense, was in heaven while being here on earth. John 3:13 & 14:3 K.J.V. are buth spoken present tense. It seems that spirit realities are not limited to earth's laws. In other words, an aspect or facet of God can be wherever He chooses to be without needing to fit into our mindset.
  • when reading this we are taught in the bible that the Holy Spirit, Jesus, and God are the same. So if man has seen Jesus the how can he not have seen God. I know Jesus was in the form of a human body so then was God in the form of a human body?
  • Joe Glascock
This is right before Jesus starts his ministry, where Jesus meets his desciples and John has declared that "I must decrease so that He may increase", (from 35-51) and has been declared Rabbi, teacher/master by those who John sent to be his desciples, in those days, they did not meet in the temple to hear teachings on a daily basis, they usually met at the Rabbis house, or where he was headquartered.
More desciples were to follow him later, but there had to be a sign in order for them to follow as there had been 3 want to be's before Jesus in the 400 years of silence that followed between the OT and the NT.
Christ tells Phillip, that he saw them under the fig tree, and Phillip knew he was the Messiah, later Jesus tell them that they shall see the heavens open and angels ascending and descending on the Son of Man, but they shall see greater miracles than these because they believe.
See chapter 2 for his first miracle, and my comment on The Wedding feast.

    be·get [bih-get] Show IPA
    –verb (used with object), be·got or ( Archaic ) be·gat; be·got·ten or be·got; be·get·ting.
1.(ESPECIALLY OF A MALE PARENT) to PROCREATE or GENERATE (offspring)
    begotten (bɪˈɡɒt ə n)— vb
Did Jesus lie when he said he was the Son of God. John 3:16 says "God so loved the world that he gave His only BEGOTTEN son...."A son he created, offspring, separate from GOD, first born of all creation, etc, Only the pagan romans and greeks believed in triad gods. WAKE UP AND GIVE WORSHIP TO ALMIGHTY GOD, THE CREATOR OF ALL THINGS!!!
    a past participle of beget

  • Reese for verse 1
just as a man is a bodily person and has a shadow and a voice, all three is HE(HIM) thats the same way one must approach the GOD HEAD(TRINITY)GOD THE FATHER GOD THE SON GOD THE HOLYGHOST but all three are one with different missions with GOD THE FATHER being the head of all things (greek, hebrew, jew or otherwise)

Jesus is really a true born of God. The world have to believe it..

To Jews Messiah was an expected leader who was to lead the Children of Israel away from
their lives of toil and misery and into the promised land. However to John, The Avatar is the Absolute Creator taking a human body at the time of humanity's lowest state to guide it away from the trap of sin and corruption into which it had fallen.
The synoptic authors are as faithful as they can be to the events they are trying to record. John attempts to communicate the meaning and purpose of the Incarnation. To him Spirit is a concrete reality, where to most it is merely vanity and a chasing after wind
  • David
Thank for your comment Will, however my concern was not so much about prejudice or hate, as evidence. After all, who was this fourth gospel writer and why did he dislike Jews so much? Did it elude him completely that Jesus himself was a Jew and if so what does that tell us about the reliability of this particular account? With regard to it being the word of God, passed down via fallible men or otherwise, I would have thought that he at least would be sufficiently well resourced to ensure that this kind of elementary blunder didn't happen in his name! Be that as it may, one thing I do disagree with you about is the role of mistranslation in scripture. What makes the NT (the OT also to a lesser extent) so dubious is the deliberate manipulation of texts via selectivity, interpolation and ordering, rather than random honest mistakes of which I'm sure there are many.
  • Will
David, regarding the anti-semitism, I think that these scriptures were written by men, and so there may be hatred/prejudice within them. It is the 'word of God', passed down by men. We all have our imperfections/shortcomings, no? I speak a few languages and I believe that, among men, something is always lost in translation. See the story of Babel.
  • David
Quote "So Jesus is the Son, not God himself. Jesus said “The Son is not greater than the Father” which doesn’t support the Trinitarian belief that they are the same and equal. In verse 14, John calls Jesus the only begotten. Begotten is a term used in the Bible when referring to offspring, something or someone created. God has no beginning or a creator so Jesus having been created cannot be God. He is the only begotten because he was Gods first direct creation and all other things God made through Jesus."

A very good point actually. I believe the exact quote from the KJV to be :-

    John 14
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come [again] unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

Certainly this is one of the defences that Arius used to defend himself against his Trinitarian persecutors in the 4th Century.

One thing that puzzles me about John though, is it's anti-Semitic tone in chapters 18 and 19. Why are there so many hostile and frankly impertinent references to 'the Jews'? I count 16 altogether!
  • Jim
In the begining was the word the word is Jesus and the word is God Our God is a spirital God and He can take on any form that He desires too or be any where He wants tooOr dwell in anyone He chosees too
  • Daniel for verse 13
born not of bloods (literal interpretation). This is referring not to geneology (the term 'seed' is used for this in scripture). It is saying 'not by the blood of offerings and sacrifices. This Divine Birth is not as a result of the work of the cross.
Here is a major failure of the modern church

Verses to prove that Jesus Christ is true God. Tito 2:13 & 1 Jh. 5:20. Where is your verses in the bible that Jesus was created?.
  • Bible reader for verse 1
I would like to offer some other bible translations of this scripture. I'm very curious why these translations were not listed.

1808: "and the word was a god." The New Testament in an Improved Version, Upon the Basis of Archbishop Newcome's New Translation: With a Corrected Text.
1864: "and a god was the word." The Emphatic Diaglott, interlinear reading, by Benjamin Wilson.
1928: "and the Word was a divine being." La Bible du Centenaire, L'Evangile selon Jean, by Maurice Goguel.
1935: "and the Word was divine." The Bible—An American Translation, by J. M. P. Smith and E. J. Goodspeed.
1946: "and of a divine kind was the Word." Das Neue Testament, by Ludwig Thimme.
1950: "and the Word was a god." New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures.
1958: "and the Word was a God." The New Testament, by James L. Tomanek.
1975: "and a god (or, of a divine kind) was the Word." Das Evangelium nach Johannes, by Siegfried Schulz.
1978: "and godlike kind was the Logos." Das Evangelium nach Johannes, by Johannes Schneider.

The true meaning of this scripture is getting "lost in translation" as many have brought out. John clears up this debate when he summarizes the main idea of his book in John 20:31 which says “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”

So Jesus is the Son, not God himself. He is the only begotten because he was Gods first direct creation and all other things God made through Jesus.
  • forgot to mention in previous comment Elomhim does not show that god is three but that he is the ONLY true god - one god - the plural form because of plural of majesty as stated in prev comment. John 8:32 - Psalm 83:18
  • as for the Elohim being plural @ (h. watson )such a thing is called plural of majesty used in hebrew - plural title showing respect or position of authority - as for john 1:1 indefinite article left out to favor trinity.

I love the Bible online.I want information on what God said about being or have ill against your brother or sisters

The teaching is biblical but incomplete. Yes, Jesus claimed that his Father is greater that him before he died. Because, what he speak is came from his Father Jh. 14:10. But after he is risen there powers is equal. Supporting verses: Jh. 17:10-11 and Philip. 2 : 9 -11. Do you that the new name of our Heavenly Father is the Lord Jesus Christ based in the bible.
  • James for verse 5
the light, i believe is the word of god and the darkness is our own despair. we know the word of god, we hear it and we choose to look the other way. but the light is still their and burning brightly. when we seek that light we finally realize that it has never went out. instead we were only looking the other way
  • RightTurnClyde
John's is a wonderful gospel. The message is light and life and redemption and divine grace. You have everything in the Apostles creed in this gospel. Everything you need to be Christian. If you refuse to believe as some indicated THEN so it is. Christianity is, after all, a matter of faith. Jesus said **that** so often: your faith saves you. All of the gospels are moving, but this one has always been my favorite.
  • The Words that I speak unto you , they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak;(spiritual leaders)and hear,O earth,(worldly people)the Words of my mouth. My doctrine(teaching) shall drop as the rain,my speech shall distil(purify) as dew,as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: Deuteronomy 32:1,2
For the Lord giveth wisdom:out of his mouth cometh Knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6
    God:judge or idol.
His (Jesus) name is called the Word of God.
    Revelation 19:13
The Word = Jesus (the Word was made flesh)will judge our hearts.
....the Words that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. John 12:48
The idols (gods)of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hand's. Psalm 135:14,18.
Our life is to be patterned after our Lord Jesus Christ and not after the traditions of men or men. And not after our own hearts desires.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
    Exodus 20:1-6 ( read )
