7:3 His brethren - So called according to the Jewish way of speaking. They were his cousins, the sons of his mother's sister. Depart hence - From this obscure place.

Joh 7:3 His brethren therefore said unto him. His brothers. See PNT "Joh 2:12". Depart hence, and go into Judaea. A long time had passed since he had been at Jerusalem, and these brethren wished him to show his mighty powers there.

    The referred brothers could have been Joseph's children born from other wife or wives married before Mary. There is an element of superiority and jealousy typical of polygamy elder brothers irked by obvious popularity being gained by young brother from Joseph's young wife.
