Wesley's Notes for John 6:27

6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth - For bodily food: not for that only not chiefly: not at all, but in subordination to grace, faith, love, the meat which endureth to everlasting life. Labour, work for this; for everlasting life. So our Lord expressly commands, work for life, as well as from life: from a principle of faith and love. Him hath the Father sealed - By this very miracle, as well as by his whole testimony concerning him. See #Joh 3:33|. Sealing is a mark of the authenticity of a writing.

People's Bible Notes for John 6:27

Joh 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth. The Savior does not prohibit laboring for food, but making the acquisition of food and worldly things the leading object of life. He means: Do not manifest a chief anxiety for bodily food, for the food that perishes with the using, but rather seek that meat which endureth unto everlasting life. The food of the soul; the Bread of Life. See Joh 6:35,48. Him hath God the Father sealed. Sealing is the mark of approval, of authority. A legal document must bear the seal of the State to give it force. The Father had commissioned, authorized, and stamped his seal upon the work of the Son. His miracles were a "divine seal".

Discussion for John 6:27

  • The first part of the verse tells us to be detached from p***ing worldly things and attach to heavenly and lasting realities. The second part which was interested to me is that God has ***igned Jesus as His mouthpiece and not as "the Seal of the Prophets" declared by Muslims for Muhammad the prophet and claim to be the "last prophet" and as other past religions believe in the finality of the Prophets. In this verse though Jesus attested and sealed as the saviour of the time, but it doesn't mean that He is "The last One", Please ponder on this truth for a while. Regards
