Wesley's Notes for John 15:19

15:19 Because ye are not of the world, therefore the world hateth you - Because your maxims, tempers, actions, are quite opposite to theirs. For the very same reason must the world in all ages hate those who are not of the world.

verse 20 above says "Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also". WOW! Jesus lets us know what to expect / those who is 'born-again'. Wow!
  • Abide in me
Jesus' 1 commandment is to abide in Him. Plug into God he is the source of all Life! There is no Life apart from Him. Unplugged from God we we can not help but produce Sin. Plugged into the Father through the sacrifice that cleansed our sin stained contious;(Jesus) we can Live freely righteous forever in relationship with our Father of all!

Jn. 15:13 - " ..... that a man lay down 'his' life for his friends." and take up the life of Christ.

Thank you Jesus, for laying your life down for us.

V.13 - I've always read this verse as literal, and it's always 'bothered' me - because I know only God could and did that. Just now as I read it the spiritual aspect dawned on me: we lay down our WORLDLY lives and turn to God in repentance so we are in a place with God to pray for or friends. Now that makes sense. "Come now, let us REASON together ..... "
  • I AM
O full of all subtilty and all mischief, you child of the devil, YOU enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord JESUS? Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. To my little children, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence: he will come and save you. I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you: but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
