1:15 John cried - With joy and confidence; This is he of whom I said - John had said this before our Lord's baptism, although he then knew him not in person: he knew him first at his baptism, and afterward cried, This is he of whom I said. &c. V. 14 - "..... the Word (God) became flesh; 1 Tim.3:16 - "..... God was manifest in the flesh (Jesus). God needed to 'show' Himself to mankind, but God is a spirit - so can't be seen by physical eyes. Jesus was only in the mind of God from even before the foundation (creation) of the world. God is - omniscient - ALL KNOWING; He had this whole plan, world, humans, salvation before time.

Gen. 1:1- "In the beginning God." Gen. 1:26a- "And God said, Let us make man in our image..." This is the Trinity- God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word" The Bible tells us that in the beginning the Word existed. In ver. 14 it says the Word was made flesh, Jesus came in the form of man, and is the only begotten of the Father. John 3:16

Dear friend, the Word is Jesus. Capital 'W'. Because Jesus came down from heaven, to bear witness, and went up again. Jesus is God manifested in the flesh.
