Wesley's Notes for Joel 3:1

3:1 In those days - When I shall by Cyrus bring Judah out of Babylon. Of Judah - As the type of the whole remnant that are saved. And Jerusalem - For beside what refers to the two tribes restored by Cyrus, the bringing back the captivity of the whole Israel of God by Christ is to be considered all along through this chapter.

Discussion for Joel 3

  • Saved by Grace; HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!
    AMEN; HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!

"Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine? will ye render me a recompense?.." When evil dogs only want to always bite the hands that feed them; at what point do we have to stop giving them a hand to bite? People who want to be hateful and hostile and completely unreasonable, cannot forever be given a respect they refuse to be worthy of. LET THEM GO!

"..let the weak say, I am strong. Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O Lord." The men of the world, they are the weak; and the ungodly, they are the heathen to be gathered and brought up to their doom. While they hold on to their ancient deceits of pride defiance against Christ, thus will they fall.

"Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine?" Jesus Himself answered the everlasting contempt of Israel's evil neighbors: "It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs." If they would repent and believe the Gospel and love God's people He would heal them; but they continue to make themselves enemies for their false prophet's sake.

The Day of the LORD is at hand and our redemption draws near! The chain of events which are now rapidly taking shape, have an end! We know that during the last, and most terrible and dreadful kingdom of the heathen, will be the days when the Lord comes to take them away for ever, when He sets up His everlasting kingdom. Let us not be troubled, but exulting; and the trial is only for small moment!
